Ccron10 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Man that's extremely stupid!!!! Cockroaches a househod pests!!!! That's like saying we can't kill mosquitos with bug spray! PETA ruins everybodys fun!!!!!
shernernum Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 While I could care less about the PETA issues that go along with this, am I the only one that is worried about the park... I mean look at some of the motivated employees now at the parks, and look at how clean they keep the parks now. Who is going to make sure that they keep those roaches captive...These are some big suckers they are talking about and I can just see it now. Headline: Houses in Valencia, CA Infested by Non Native Pests: Suspicion Turns to Local Theme Park. I guess that is one way to lower the surrounding property values...maybe Alton Towers can try it so they can get those stupid neighbors off their backs.
arrowfanman Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I have no problem with PETA raising a concern or complaint, or even a peaceful protest. It is their right to, as much as it is anybody elses. Now if the park decides to cancel the event as a result of this...thats when I will be mad--and I'll be mad at Six Flags for giving into this. Heh. -Jahan
Hercules Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I agree. PETA does have the right to do this, just like they have the right to stand on a street corner and protest a KFC. As long as they do it in a lawful and peaceful way, it is their right.
gisco Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Just have fun without animals I guess we are going to have to change the name of the forum since we can no longer have fun with animals. I vote for "Theme Parks, Roller Coasters & Ryan!"
pvcoasterguy Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 As they say, "Any publicity is good publicity." Could it be that this is actually good for Six Flags? The people who didn't hear about this marketing stunt will hear it this time around--perhaps they may decide to go! Six Flags would not cancel this event--far too much publicity has been spread, and just look at all the people who simply laugh at such an article. I'd say less that 2% of people nationwide would possibly be angry at Six Flags for this practice. I don't believe any effect will be had upon the event.
Gnome Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 It's all good advertising for Six Flags though - whether or not PETA's interferance rattles you, this is exactly the kind of publicity Six Flags want in that it attracts another surge of interest a few weeks after the first announcement - it keeps the event a topic of conversation. I guess SF's new advertisement strategy is controversy. Nothing better then controversy to give you free publicity, imo.
Marcus Sheen Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Exactly. Thorpe Park are doing a "how to phone in sick and get discounted entry" promotion at the moment which has got a frosty reception, and Alton Towers went through a spate of similar promotions, and anything that gets people disapproving earns the park more column inches. Even in an extreme circumstance the park cancel the cockroach eating thing, they'll still benefit from more visitors just because of the extra attention drawn to their Halloween celebrations.
Calaway Park Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 In spite of what PeTA may think, humans ARE animals, mammals. In other words, it's no different for a tiger to torture a rabbit for food than for us to. I would hope that humans have a higher mental capacity than a tiger or some other wild animal. I don't think we should be torturing any animals for fun. It's one thing to raise and eat a lobster. It's another thing to slowly dip it in a boiling vat of water and removing it for fun, watching it scream, and prolonging it's pain. As to the cockroach thing? I could really care less either way. But how is this different then what they do on fear factor or survivor? Hamsters eat their own young, does that mean we should eat our babies? Hamster are mammals, so why is it different for us to eat our young? I said for food, not entertainment. If it's for entertainment it's sadistic. As for the hamsters comment, really now, who do you know whos going to eat their young? You blew that way out of proportion and basically twisted my words. A tiger tears apart a rabit bit by bit, humans slaughter cows. We do have a higher mentality then other animals, but that doesn't change anything. So your saying if tigers were smarter they should stop eating rabits slowly? As for the mucous comment, maybe it does cause mucous, but PeTA is just using that fact to get us to stop drinking it because they "torture cows" to get it when in fact it probably hurts less then their young removing it. In case you haven't caught it, I LOVE animals and I care alot about them, but PeTA has no idea what they are doing, and a "five minute research" can find you a lot of information about PeTA that I'm sure the members wouldnt want you to know.
Hercules Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Calaway - Have you ever gone to a show with animals in it? Have you ever killed an animal for food yourself or do you let companies do that for you? You can find anything about any organization in a Google search. Good or bad. Fact or fiction.
shesaidboom Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 really now, who do you know whos going to eat their young? 307 eats babies.
jmccalip Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 As much as I HATE PETA...I do kind of see their point. How do you define what animals to save and which ones to let Fear Factor use? It is a hard call. At least they are somewhat consistent in trying to save ALL living things, and not just the cute and cuddly animals. I, for one, was outraged at the 'rat blender' they did on Fear Factor. Others I'm sure look at Rats the same way I look at Cock Roaches! So therefore I would have to support not killing the roaches if it will also save the Rats in the long run! See my point? Bring on the Dog Blender though, and I'm fine with that! and btw, yeah, I called it!!!!! Why were you outraged? The rats were dead.
Hercules Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 ^ Probably because they were living at one point in time. I'm sure they were killed for the show.
jmccalip Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Maybe, but then again, this happens to TONS of animals. If you wanna eat meat, they have to be killed one way or the another. Edit:, I didn't read the last part if your post. It sounds like we eat rats!
FlippyTrick09 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I was wondering when this was going to happen
vjgx Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Wow... that's just ridiculous!! It's not like it would cause an epidemic... roaches aren't an endangered species.
obeygiant Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Don't they know, roaches aren't considered animals (really, why do they exist?!)
307 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 really now, who do you know whos going to eat their young? 307 eats babies. quoted for truth
Gnome Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've stepped on many a roach and spiders. At least when you eat them, their death is not totally in vain.
Hercules Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 People wouldn't be eatting them because they are hungry. They would be eatting them to get to the front of a line to ride a roller coaster. That isn't vein?
SharkTums Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Let's try to keep this as a Six Flags thread and not turn it too much into all of our personal beliefs over animal rights. I think that everyone has made their position clear. Let's now wait and see what Six Flags does.
Hercules Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Six Flags will keep going with this. "We appreciate their opinion," Ms. Hatter replied. "It's the same kind of thing as eating chicken or beef. They are featured in many recipes. They are consumed on shows like Fear Factor and it's a normal thing in some cultures."
Real Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I hope that none of the PETA drive cars. The amount of bugs that you kill while driving (not to mention things you can drive over) is just astronomical. Same thing. Infact, Id rather people eat the bugs - get some protiens and nutrients than for them to just be splattered all over my cars front bumper. Silly PETA.
