Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 1989: Wicked Twister's permanent closure announced!

Recommended Posts

In the 2nd article about the new ride, if I'm not mistaken, Kinzel already admitted that the new ride won't be built by Intamin (IntaRide). Wouldn't word coming from the CEO rule out Intamin as a possible manufacturer?

Just saying, because Screamscape isn't always 100% gospel. I'd give them 20% at best.

I think CP and the CP "spy's" are going to screw with us a little, heck, we have gone from B&M dive, to a woodie, and now a Star Flyer. I rode the one in Orlando, and I agree with a previous post, it's a very uneasy feeling, and couple that with it being at a "fun" park that while I'm sure it's safe, kinda gives you a feeling that they may or may not inspect their rides everyday....This is one that I will have to see to believe.

^From my understanding it was never designed for the ride vehicle to be removed, which CF did, as per their offseason ritual. Without the ride vehicle stabilizing the towers, one fell over. Am I wrong? I seem to remember a report saying that somewhere...

I completely forgot about that, I remember reading that same article a few months ago. I believe this is it. Cedar Fair Removing Two VertiGo Rides

^Yes, that's what happened. They removed the ride vehicle and cables from the ride which eliminated any counterbalance for the three towers. It got a little too cold and a little too windy one night and ker-splat! It snapped and fell over.

Actually, it didn't *quite* go that way. The wind stayed at a certain speed for a very long time, hitting the tower at a constant angle and rate. It caused the metal to weaken significantly. Along with the increase of swaying (due to lack of support), this caused it to fall.

At that date, no, everyone's still free. I haven't been to CP for a while but the waits could be, depending on when you go, anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

I did manage to consult with Karnak the Magnificent and he told me that the 17th should be okay with waits ranging from the 1/2 hour to 1 hour range for the big three. However, sporadic down time on MF, TTD and Maverick could change these wait times. Also, STR is going to have some down time so your wait times could vary for this new attraction.

Scattered rain showers throughout the Central Ohio region on the 18th could cause a problem with ride downtime though - so beware! On the 19th, you will be so sick of Cedar Point, chances are you won't care what the ride waits are like anyway!
