danderson83 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 What do you guys think of the bull dozer plowing land? Could this be for an expanded parking lot? I really hope this is the first sign of a coaster coming next year. Does anyone know how much of the land is already plowed? Right now, I'm thinking that they're expanding the parking lot to that area so they can remove part of the current lot for future park expansion, but they did just start the land clearing, so it's really anyone's guess at this point. New entrance + crazy awesome B&M invert. Fingers crossed ... We can only hope
VFVSGirl16 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I drove by the park today, and noticed a few things. First off, there was some land disturbance over by the dorms (which is nothing new, I'm not the first to notice it). Also the blue catwalks are gone on the sign (again, old news). I also saw a crane near Wild Thing, some maintenance trucks and some stuff covered up, not sure what that was all about. Anyone have any ideas? Also, from what I could see, the Wild Thing photo area got new overhangs that are no longer faded and looked very vibrant. The slides for the new expansion also look very nice. Can't wait til the park opens, 45 days! Here's a few crappy pics I snapped as we drove past.
rollercoastercrazzy Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 This most likely isn't true, but the crane could be on it's way to Wild Thing's turnaround for construction on a slingshot. That would be my guess, but I definitely could be wrong. Nice photos btw, I'm very curious as to what the land clearing is for.
VF15 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'd assume the crane is probably there for pre-season maintenance on Wild Thing, though it could be for something else.
Lareson Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Track and bolt inspection on Wild Thing more than likely. I see the man basket that's on the back of the truck in front of the crane, so that is the most probable answer. And if Wild Thing were to get a lighting package, it'll be all installed on the ground, no need for a crane.

Back when I lived in MN full-time, that crane with the basket was out every spring doing track inspections.
ariznglori Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 They could do running lights up the lift side, I think Fury got a package like that. Ground and running...Ehh not sure though. Dropped.
ACES Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Anyone think it's a good idea to relocate mad mouse some were else in the park to widen the walk ways to make more room for traffic in that corner I think that corner is just going to be to tight for crowds on a hot busy Saturday weekend crowd imagine single line traffic walking through that area of the park.

Sure sounds good in theory, but it's not happening anytime soon. Mad Mouse is getting a brand new control system with a new PLC this year from IOE, so if they were planning on moving it, it would of been done before they're installing a new system. No sense in spending all that money to install a brand new PLC with a lot of re-wiring, only to re-wire it again to move it.
VF15 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 ^ Good point. Even though a Mad Mouse relocation would be the best way to make more waterpark room, I don't think they'd do that if they're doing extensive work on it. Now, it seems like the only way to expand the waterpark would be to remove Excalibur, though I'd personally rather see Excalibur replaced by a coaster. Also, sorry if I sound dumb, but what is a PLC?
Comeagain? Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Also, sorry if I sound dumb, but what is a PLC? Programmable Logic Controller. It's the computer that controls the ride.
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 I don't think they have to expand for the next soak city upgrade. They just have to use the land they have and be creative. I liked the idea of mat racers in the entrance path and making a new entrance in between the new splash pad and the new slides. Something else could also go in the old kiddie area. Another thought, Excalibur and Thunder Canyon are okay, but they could get rid of both. A future waterpark expansion could take excaliburs spot and a new coaster could take Thunder Canyon's spot. Not fun to say good bye to rides, but it would certainly be a big improvement. The new coaster station could go before the tunnel, you know the one with waves painted on it. The tunnel and paths beyond would just be destroyed. It would give the coaster more room by taking over unneeded path space. The only possible issue would be the new coaster's station would be right by renegade's. Not sure if it is a problem, but it would be a little weird.
TjregalRC Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 This is my first post to TPR. I think the bulldozer near the dorms is leveling the extra dirt they took out of Soak City expansion. It doesn't looks like parking lot expansion to me. I still holding out for a B&M inverted coaster for the next coaster. I been waiting since they built Steel Venom the year 2003.
Mdcastle Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 The old Panic Falls body slides aren't bad, but there's better use of the area. They could build something higher and farther back that would incorporate inner tube slides along with some replacement "tame" body slides. As mentioned a mat racer has a large capacity relative to space and staffing needs and could go along the entrance. A flowrider is a marquee attraction and is compact and could fit just about anywhere.

Another thought, Excalibur and Thunder Canyon are okay, but they could get rid of both. Exactly, I also feel they just need to use the land they have. With the wave pool, new slide package and splash pad the water park is now two sharply divided area's. All I just listed is the NEW part of the water park (post year 2000) on the east side and the OLD part of the water park which is now on the west side (pre year 2000). The Panic Falls body and speed slides have been there since the 80's and have been there for over 25 years so the park has seen their return on investment for those and they could and should easily be removed and replaced with something new to bring the entire waterpark up to speed. And you still can move Looping Starship to create even more space for the water park. With the recent water park upgrade to the east side I see them redesigning the west side in the next 1-3 years to finish the update. And if they decide to use Excalibur or Thunder Canyon space (which I hope they don't, I just think to they need to update the space they have before expanding) they could always build a bridge over the service highway from the water park to either of those area's if needed.
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I hate when you go to check out the webcam progress and all you see is black.

You're probably right .. but let me hold on to my hope that it is the beginning of moving the parking lot, for the new entrance, for our new B&M coaster. How many other CF parks have gotten 2 new B&M's since we got Renegade in 2007!! (too many)!!
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Canada got a hyper, a giga, and is heavily rumored to get something big next year. Everything after 2007. Wish our park had better luck.
VF15 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 From Dave Frazier's Twitter, the view from the top the speed slides. That's a long way down...
GCI Wooden Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 ^Wow, that's incredibly steep. Should be a big hit in the waterpark!
ariznglori Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 If that doesn't get adrenaline pumping, then nothing will.
