Food Network Needs Our Help For A New TV Show!

Recommended Posts

Hey Theme Park Review Members!

I have been contacted by our friends at the Food Network (I know all of you secretly are huge fans) for a show they are producing about, guess what? FOOD!!!

Specifically they would like to get our feedback on what parks we think are the best in their class in regards to food, snacks, restaurants, etc.

So some questions would be:

- Which park has the absolute best ______________ ?

- If you go to ____________ park, you HAVE to try their ______________

- My favorite "theme park restaurant" is ________________

They are in a time crunch and might start filming as early as next week, so please post your responses NOW!

Thanks again for all your help!

So I'll add a few things that come to my mind:

Best Pizza - Knoebel's

Best Theme Park Restaurant (it's hard to choose just one) but I actually might say "O'Hanas" at Walt Disney World

Kennywood is known for the fries at the Potato Patch. Holiday World is known for their Fudge. Coney Island is known for Nathans Hot Dogs.

What else stands out in your minds?

ps. Also, I'm assuming they'd want to keep this "US Park Based" but damn, there should would be some GREAT international options too!

Best BBQ - Trapper's Smokehouse

Best Funnel Cakes - Dollywood

If you go to Indiana Beach you have to try their tacos

If you go to Dollywood you have to try their Cinnamin Bread at the Grist Mill

My favorite theme park resertaunt is "Ohana's" at Disney - if that counts

"O'Hanas"?

It isn't an Irish name, you know, being located in the Polynesian and all !

Just about every restaurant in the World Showcase is top-notch in my opinion.

Six Flags over Texas actually has great food during Holiday in the Park- especially the Kettle Corn. Some of the best.

Hmm, this may be a topic I can help with...

Best Pizza: Knoebel's

Best Fries: Kennywood (get them with gravy!)

Best Tacos: Martin's Fantasy Island

Best Ice Cream: Knoebel's

Best Potato Salad: DelGrosso's (this is one of those "If you go here, you have to try it" things, as it is quite simply the best potato salad I have ever had).

Best Pepper Steak: Liseberg (likely outside of the range the Food Network wants to cover since it's in Sweden, but I'm going to mention it anyway because it is so damn good!)

The best park for overall selection of food, especially unusual for park items, is Knoebel's. Chicken fries, perogies, tri-taters, stuffed potatos, carmel apple chips, hommade ice cream and milkshakes...plus all the usual assortment of park stuff (burgers, pizza, hot dogs and so on).

Favorite theme park restaurant: California Grill at the Walt Disney World resort. I'd seriously rank this place as one of the best ten restaurants I've ever eaten in. And I travel and eat at all sorts of really good places A LOT. If I have to pick a place that's actually inside a park, I'm going to go with either Mama Melroses or the Sci-Fi Diner (both at Disney MGM in Orlando).

The best park to eat at: Knoebel's.

A ton of variety: pizza, burgers, hot dogs, etc.... but also pierogies, tri-taters, pulled pork, and best of all it's super cheap!

The best fried chicken dinner: Knott's Berry Farm (and it would make a good story considering that's how the park got its start)

The best food presentation: Mythos at IOA.

The most top-notch dining options: Walt Disney World Resort

^ Yeah, they are identical as the ones at all the other Six Flags parks. IMO, the "best turkey legs" I've ever had were the ones at the Oak Tavern at Islands of Adventure.

The best food presentation: Mythos at IOA.

This dissapointing thing is that a year ago, I'd totally agree. Mythos was my #1 restaurant since 2001. But ever since they've changed the menu, done away with the deserts, it's really gone downhill, IMO. I'm not sure why as they've won so many awards and then they totally shifted gears.

We don't even bother to eat there anymore!

For the FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR in a row the "World's best theme park restaurant" according to Theme Park Insider: Mythos Restaurant at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. The food and the atmosphere of this restaurant make it a winner!

Also in Orlando is BOMA-Flavors of Africa, located in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is a buffet style restaurant with a variety of salads, vegetarian dishes, grilled seafood and roasted meats.

I personally don't put much value into that Theme Park Insider award, at least not this year. I could totally understand them getting that award for the first 4 years, but I think they now get the award because of the "Theme Park Insider" banner they have over the door.

With the new Mythos menu and all the changes, it doesn't even rank in my top ten theme park restaurants anymore.

Of course, if there was a "Theme Park Review" banner over the front door, my opinion might change!

This is exciting, thank you TPR-ers. I've heard more good news in the last half hour than I have in a half a week of researching this stuff. Thanks Robb! You're all definitely helping to make a better TVshow!

Aren't you the guys that produce Unwrapped? I love that show!

This is a tough decision, but Knoebel's does have the greatest pizza. You can't be a cheap price for a slice of pizza and a large soda for around 4.50, where as at Six Flags, it's almost 10 bucks.

At Lake Compounce, they introduced a Panini grill this year and I went there for a Panini and it was very very delicious. By the looks of the place, they do make them right on site.

Agree on BOTH points! What about Tchop chop over in the Royal Pacific hotel at Universal?? It's pricey but really good (better than the much more expensive "Emeril's" in CityWalk)

I don't go to enough parks to really judge.

Disneyland's west side restaurants have some good clam chowder and cheesecake though!

I would also like to nominate Six Flags Magic Mountain as the park with "Worst Overall Food."

Seriously, until just last month, I could not find a restaurant with food that tasted even remotely good. Then I found out the Six Flags Cafe or whatever the restaurant right at the plaza is) has some decent sandwiches.

That's about it.

I'm with Robb on this one. I also used to LOVE Mythos, but after two very lackluster meals, I will be skipping it from now on. It used to be great when the park first opened, and Confisco's also had a unique menu (grilled fruit and chicken salad) but has since resorted to your usual burgers and pizza stuff.

Anyway, here are my thoughts:

For best views during dining, I prefer Sharks at Sea World Orlando. And their food is actually pretty good too!

For best dinner buffet, you MUST give it to BOMA at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Unique but always very flavorful.

If you go to PKI, you MUST try the Blueberry Ice Cream! I still callit Smurf Ice Cream although the Smurfs have been gone for decades.

The Cinnamon Rolls at the front of Dollywood are HUGE!

Happy eating!

PS If the Food Network needs to film someone sampling these foods, I am in!!

As someone that spends a lot of time in restaurants and travelling, I'm going to agree with Robb's opinion of Mythos. I used to think this was easily the best theme park restuarant anywhere, and also used to think that it could easily compete with just about any place in the city of Orlando. It was that good.

Now, it still has the great interior, but nothing else. They've dumbed down the menu to the point where it's a SLIGHT step up from a takeaway counter at a park. And the removal of the desserts (one of the signature things about the place) is just criminal. I used to look forward to my trips to Orlando and IOA every year, knowing I could eat at Mythos. Now, considering what they've done to the place, I'm just as happy going to McDonald's...

I think some of the best food I've ever had at a park would definitely be Silver Dollar City. Almost everything I've had from there has been good. A must have at SDC is their bakery and dessert items. For me, it's either the (huge) blueberry muffins or the apple dumplings with homemade cinnamon ice cream.

Yeah, I'd have to say that a segment on Dollywood and/or Silver Dollar City as problably one of the most underrated, but BEST park food out there should be included!

The HUGE skillets of random food they have are amazing!!!

YUM!!!!

Dollywood is a great place to just walk around and absorb the awesome smells of all kinds of great food!

For me, being a picky eater, Knoebels has more than 3 things I eat which is CRAZY GOOD!

As far as real 'Theme Parks', nothing beats the Walt Disney Resort in Florida.
