So are you 33, or 13? Honestly, I'm leaning towards the latter.

It's the same person.

In short, he started a topic with a rumour that he couldn't confirm and he couldn't see the error of his ways.

Going to all the trouble of creating multiple accounts just to harrass the site makes this chap the saddest and most pathetic person of all. Really, it isn't worth the effort to hate him. We should simply pass the hat to raise enough money to buy him a goldfish so that he may have another source of amusement.

I really just pity him.

Not any longer we aren't. I don't see why this matters, and why you feel the need to debate it at all. Move on, back on topic, please.

Oh yes we are, Manc lass, right here, right now. You've entirely missed the point of my other posts. Telling someone to be quiet doesn't make it so.

Listen troll. You've been banned once. And no matter what you do you are getting banned again (if you haven't been already) for creating a second account. And debating with on of the mods won't help you the slightest bit. 33 years old. Yeah right. Funny how the kid 2 decades younger than you understands the site rules better than you. Okay, i'm done beating the dead horse.

Edit: Yeah... Ticked off a mod. Don't try this at home kids. And I wont be trying it again.

^ That post was completely unnecessary. You acknowledged that he was a troll, haven't you ever head the phrase don't feed the troll? You say you understand the rules but that post was only slightly less pointless than a reply to a spam thread hawking porn or cell phones. Don't do it again, and let us do the moderating, thanks.

uhh, someone might want to delete the thread: sexy jessica alba...soon

You could report the post with the "SPAM" button on the upper right of the posts.

I don't see how some people don't get it. Don't respond to spam threads and if you can, report it.

Hey I've got a semi-solution to the spam threads but I'm not sure it could be done.

Is there some code that would not allow for the two subject fields to have the same thing repeated? It sounds like it could be done somehow. Most of the spam threads have the same title repeated...

That might help the problem. Just an idea.

^There is also the option of those "type in what you see in the image" things during the registration process, while they wont stop human spammers, they can stop bots. Other forums that use phpBB code forums just like TPR use them and I have yet to find spam on them. Also, the bachmann trains forums have used a new forum that was labeled as "spam proof" during a host switch. And it has yet to break that label. I snagged a shot of the info at the bottom of the page. (Yes I know how extremely unlikely it is for R&E to do this, since EVERYONE would have to reregister. But still...)

Info, sorry if this is worthless I have almost no idea how the internals of a forum work.

^ An even simpler way (Those bloody things take me ages because i always type something wrong) would be to just add another question to the registration from that asks "Are you a robot" and the default answer is no. Saw it on the Carmen Sandiego forums a while ago. Although, again, it may require everyone to re-register, so perhaps not a great idea.

Please guys...all of this has been done...they are no longer spambots coming in...it's real people.

We have a real company run stuff for the site, they are programmers, they know what they are doing.

Thanks.

And in reality, where there is a spam thread, how often does one stay up longer than about 10 minutes?

And if you ignore it, does it really impact your experience on the site at all?

Most people I talk to tell me "I never even see the spam threads!"

As Elissa said, we have hired a company that helps us manage the server side of things and control spam bots and they can no longer get through. When you see a spam on the forum it's from someone who has been paid to spam forums and they have got through the registration and the verification process.

wow, these new spammers are spamming video that are just uh, nasty, inapporioate, and other things. I say IP ban them.

Most of the spammers show up once, spam, account get deleted, and they never come back. IP banning would be useless in 99% of the spam here.

There have been a few threads that just look like from the title that they are just some newbie that doesn't know where to post or just advertise another main coaster site. I replied to spam only 1 time and I've learned my lesson and became wise about it.

Man, spam really sucks. It was the downfall of one of my favorite "suberb forums:" Space Station 77 (Space Mountain fan site). I loved the site, but it wasn't nearly as big as TPR. Only one admin., and no moderators. All of a sudden, spambots came and posted tons of porn and crap like that. Now they have to redo the entire forum. I'm really glad that Theme Park Review hasn't fallen victim to something like that. And I hope it never will.
