You are right ... my bad.

So no new Vekoma's in 11 years. Yeah, there may be something to that.

But like I said, not like that's bad news.

As for Goliath being the last "great success" ... are you kidding?

Stand near the main fountain at the park during opening, you know, when people are running to coasters.

Count how many people go right (towards Goliath) and how many go left (towards X2 and Tatsu).

I'm wondering if 2013 will be the year that Magic Mountain receives a new 'killer app' of a coaster. With all this land clearing that may be the case. Personally I think it would be great for the park, because in my opinion Magic Mountain really hasn't had a great success with a new ride since they built Goliath back in 2000. When Goliath was built, I was quite young, but I remember how everybody was talking about it and it was (and still is) a major draw for the park. X(2) was also successful, but would have been more so if Arrow had designed the first batch of trains correctly....

Goliath sure did grab my attention away from X the first time I saw it on Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, so you MUST be right!

I've been sitting here wondering to myself why Six Flags contacted Premier for a new train on Deja Vu. Is this because of their pledge to never buy anything from Vekoma again after the three Deja Vu mishaps?

You mean just how Six Flags pledged never to buy anything from Intamin again after the S:TE mishap?

I'll be SURE to bring this post up again next time Six Flags announces a new ride from Vekoma.

Painting rides and refurbing buildings is called maintenance, and really shouldn't be included when talking about cap expenditures. But just from simple math, Tatsu was $21 mil in '06 ($23.5 in today's dollars). I couldnt find specific amounts for 2011 installations but we can est Term, GL, and Superman EFK were all around $10 mil each (EFK prob a bit less than that).

So their last flagship ride, Tatsu, was alone 80% of all their cap "improvements" from 2007 to 2011 (5 seasons). I'd say they're due.

The reason I find this "Kingda Ka of the west" rumor so hard to believe is because of the reliability and downtime associated with these giant stratas and massive Intamin cable launchers is quite immense.

And seeing as the park already has one somewhat tempremental and extremely popular coaster (X2) I could see a KK-style coaster having very large amounts of problems, especially if it has an actual layout in addition to a strata tower.

Once again, I'm speculating, but after seeing Formula Rossa's, Kingda Ka's and Top Thrill's issues, along with the insane amount of money it would cost (upwards of 50-60 mil. most likely?), I just find this massive strata rumor to be about as reliable as a coaster leaking a puddle of steaming hydrualic fluid. (frankly I have no idea where this analogy came from).

Goliath sure did grab my attention away from X the first time I saw it on Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, so you MUST be right!

Oh you.

I knew it. I should have clarified. I'm talking about when Goliath first opened for the park in 2000. It was a major success for the park in that it drove up attendance over the 3 million mark, the last time that has happened. X didn't have quite an impact because it opened as a mechanical nightmare and then Sept. 11th passed and the whole industry suffered. Fact is, Magic Mountain's attendance hasn't been up over 3 million since Goliath. That's all I'm saying, it was a great home run for the park because it didn't cost them a fortune (X) and it increased attendance. Since then though X(2) has been the more popular ride by far, but due to park negligence and everything else that Premier did for the Six Flags brand, Magic Mountain's attendance has completely stagnated.

And I completely agree with SoCalCoasters, I would be completely shocked if they add a hydraulic launch to their lineup. I would be completely okay with it, I just don't think it would be a move the park would make. But since when has Magic Mountain ever been predictable? It's all part of the fun!

Clarification of this survey guy/

TheCoasterGuy The Coaster Guy

@bosoxholic It was the guy who does the surveys on his PDA while you're standing in line. His name badge had the title of Host.

TheCoasterGuy The Coaster Guy

The guy openly promoted the 2013 coaster as being largest in US, launch up & over the hill, loop on back side and return via Metro tunnel.

Why would Magic Mountain sink $25 million or so into building a strata that launches a little faster than S:EFK does (in theory) and goes up a tower a little taller? That just seems to similar to S:EFK. But then again, Leviathan and Behemoth, I know, I know...

TheCoasterGuy The Coaster Guy

The SF survey host just informed me that they are installing the largest coaster in the US where Log Jammer was. Similar to Kingda Ka.

once again, take with a gain of salt

..and a piece of sh1t!

Yes, because I'm SURE, absolutely POSITIVE some random park host, out front taking surveys on his palm pilot, is privy to all the upcoming park expansion information, and is stupid enough to tell "thecoasterguy" the parks upcoming capital plans for the next two years.

Wait...wait... let me roll my eyes. Ready? Ready? ... here it comes...

Actually it was their overzealous expansion overseas and in the midwest after Premier aquired the brand in the years right after 2000 that bankrupted the company; not investing in popular roller coasters at their 2 flagship parks (both of which have been among the most consistently profitable for them the last decade).

Survey Guy ... Dippin' Dots Guy ... same difference.

Yes, the problems with SFCorp started a LONG time ago, but building one trick rides like KK sure didn't help matters much.

They have been expanding the past few years, the difference, they have actually been "Smart" about it. Ditching the licensing for Thomas, etc was also a step in the right direction. You don't need anything other than Looney Tunes and DC IMO.

Overspending on new rides or buying rides the park doesn't necessarily need and having to pay what they cost? I personally think Tatsu did a lot of good for Magic Mountain, its one of peoples favorite rides in the park and has almost become a flagship ride at the center of the park that you can see from almost anywhere.

I wish Deja Vu would have gotten new trains while it was still at SFMM. Maybe I would have enjoyed my ride a lot better.

Doubt it. Besides horrible loading time (due not only to train design but the 3 point restraint system put in place) the position of the seats on the current trains were pretty cool. They actually allowed a view directly in front of you if you sat on the outside seats, a view that would have been restricted say you were sitting in B&M Invert style trains.

I don't think SF Inc. is ready to start spending $50+mill on rollercoasters, what this rumored launched monster would easily cost. They probably would even pass on the $28 million B&M charged for Levi Also if this Rumor was true I think SFMM would be missing the mark again on what the park is missing and that's AIRTIME!!!. Something like a KK recorded breaking Rocket coaster sounds more like it would just be a huge top hat and huge twist and turns. I really can't see to many airtime hills in a record braking rocket coasters future look at KK and Rossa a park would need unlimited space and money to handle the speed unless it's trimmed somewhere on it's course.

I just want to see a giga airtime machine, have the lift start in the log jammer area and go up over the mountain, have the drop and a turn like i305 or an Overbanked turn on the Goldrusher side of the mountain. Fly through the old monorail tunnel and come out into a magical twisted Intamin airtime orgy over the old Log Jammer lake area They could probably get Intamin to do that for $25 million, Also considering their last major was Tatsu at $21 million a giga is more in their ball park imo and much easier to swallow then a $50+ million dollar known to be maintence nightmare.

Actually, what I think would be something godd for 2013 would be a Rocky Mountain or Gravity Group wooden coaster that takes up the Log Jammer location and surroundings that would have a lot of track near the ground with tight transitions. It could be named "Mountain Express". Though, I don't think it will be an Intamin Strata since the S:EFK transition and Lex Luthor Drop of Doom are all advertising Superman's tower and I think Six Flags wants to keep S:EFK as the "biggest" ride for awhile.

I DOUBT it will be a Strata OR an Intamin. We did 2 things with them this year(New Trains on Superman and GL) and another project for 2012(Lex Luthor). I can see a launched coaster in the future but not Intamin...probably Premier or Gertslauer...I can definitely see a Premier in the future though, I know it will be a Premier...

My anonymous inside source tells me that we will be getting a Ninja clone in 2013. Same exact blue print as the one that towers over Jet Stream only this one is going to tower over Log Jammers old site. I can't wait!

Knowing Arrow Dynamics is extinct, and almost all of Arrow's Suspended Coasters are being torn down...your "anonymous inside source" is bullsh#ting you.0
