cfc
People were skeptical about New Texas Giant, but Rocky Mountain pulled it off. Time will tell.
eddie200330
I just don't think Colossus' layout lends itself to being made over in the way that Texas Giant's did. . Â That is kinda what I was aiming for in a roundabout way to go along with the racing/two track aspect of it. It just seems that in order to do any remodeling work it would make better sense to just tear it down and start over. That is unless they just retrack it as is. To create airtime drops and such would mean so much reprofiling that you would almost have to stretch the layout so to speak, thus creating the space issue again??? Does that make any sense to anyone?
WFChris
^I doubt the ride would need to be stretched at all. Remember, the steepest drop on the ride is only 43 degrees. I don't think it would be difficult to add height with the steeper angles you can work with in the space. In fact, I feel the layout is already stretched as it is. coasterfreak101
^Exactly. Texas Giant's first drop is a really good example of this - they took a drop with a wide valley and fit an extra ten feet of height AND an entire new airtime hill in that space, by making the drop steeper and the pullout tighter. Â Does anyone really doubt that the Rocky Mountain guys can't pull this off? I mean, can you really look at what they did for Texas Giant not think that they have the creativity to pull that off anywhere? Those are some talented guys. PeoplemoverMatt
One important difference between Texas and California is seismic structural requirements and code. A lot of Colossus' density is due to these building codes. With New Texas Giant, Rocky Mtn demonstrated that they can be rather creative when it comes to structure, and I don't doubt they could breath an entire new lifetime into Colossus if given the chance. However, it's probably not a good idea to start thinking that what worked for New Texas Giant can directly translate to building a coaster on seismically active ground in CA. Reaction
First time poster here, but long time lurker. I'm really looking forward to West Coast Bash, I've seen the trip reports and hopefully I can make it this year.
Sir Clinksalot
Â Mmmm ... Camelback. Â As for Colossus "sucking" ... I'll agree that it's seen better days, it's also seen worse days than what it currently is after the re-tracking they did this year. Â They did a great job on the first two drops this year, I'm just wondering if they stopped because they have other plans for the ride. If they could get the ride even CLOSE to what it was in the 80's then I'd be a happy camper. Â I never rode Colossus prior to 1979 (duh) so I don't remember the Double-Up, but I do remember the Camelback that was removed in the early 90's. They need to bring the Camelback back since they are never going to run 3 trains on each side.
snoflake15
That first picture that Eddie posted shows just what a 'parking lot coaster' Colossus is. Â Release the hounds.....

MontagnaMagica
Just curious, which of these two rides would you guys rather see brought back to its glory days?  Revolution or Colossus  I'd really like to see both the trims and shoulder harnesses removed on Revolution. ...But a Rocky Mountain treatment on Colossus would also be amazing! What do you think?
TJ27
^I gotta say Revolution those restraints have ruined it!

TJ27
No, but I know that those restraints are the worst thing SFMM has ever done to that ride.
Sir Clinksalot
Why does it have to be either/or? Why can't we have both Revolution and Colossus back to their former glory?
gisco
I think Colossus getting the Rocky Mountain treatment is wishful thinking.

Bolliger&Mabillard
I'd like to see a full circuit launch coaster. I gave Superman a chance, I gave Superman renewed a chance, and for a park the scale of Magic Mountian, it stinks as the ONLY launch coaster... JJ728
I was drooling over the lapbar only trains that were going on a Schwartzkopf coaster Robb was interviewing someone about at IAAPA (Gerstlauer booth I think?). If they allotted the extra insurance money for Revolution and turned off the trims, many people would be pretty happy campers.

That's where Cedar Point may have the advantage (3 Intamin launchers). I think if SFMM gets either a Giga or launcher (preferably Intamin), it could possibly become better than CP in its coaster quality.
dylanreich
Hi all, I am new to the theme park enthusiast scene...! After going to Magic Mountain for the first time in the summer I have gotten really into all of this and am going back a second time on Saturday! I did a lot of searching but couldn't find a recent answer, so please forgive me if this has been asked (recently)... Does anyone know what the discount on flash passes is for Xtreme pass holders? I got the platinum pass for my first trip (worth it for the occasion, but probably won't get it again), but am planning on getting the Xtreme pass for all of the perks, including this, if I can get the details, as this isn't explained on the MM site. Thank you guys!

Yeah, those Gerstlauer trains are for sooperdooperLooper over in Hershey. And I don't think anyone would be opposed to seeing them on Revolution...
