The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

you guys think the ride on the psyclone is a little rough ? but did you know that area its sitting on used be a pond all they did when they built it was fill the area with gravel and poor the footers after the gravel settled and over the last 10 years the ride has been sinking so now it seems the mechanics are finally going to shore the structure up. Your all wondering how i know all this i have family that worked in opts and administration over there i give the park a A++ for finally fixing a mistake the engineers made when they built the ride.
well i thought id give you a peek of the ride during its days of glory to give you a idea of what i was talking about in my last post.

Dude!

Wrs is joining the "sneaky photos" bandwagon! Excellent! Welcome to the crew!

Thanks for the update!

Add another non-stealthy photo to the pile of great Magic Mountain staff shots. The whole "I can't go anywhere without my I-Pod," thing has taken over the Mountain in a very bad way. You gotta love how the people who are running the attractions can't hear anything!

I-Pod, Coke, and Jeans = Smile for the camera! Stay tuned for a full TR from my visit last week coming soon.

Which brings us to the next element of this "Stealth Shooters" photo game. Employee dress code is also a very large problem at SFMM. Supervisors do read these forums. Some of the Deptartments have been working to correct the cell phone problem...I said some. (Improperly worn uniforms happen to be a pet peeve of mine.) Feel free to post poorly dressed employees as well. Maybe this problem will be fixed as well.

Some easy violations to spot for grooming standards, uniform violations, and other rules:

No use of cell phones in front of guests

No use of any electronics which do not pertain to job function

No eating or drinking in front of guests, (water bottles on hot days, can be overlooked)

Name tag must be worn on most outer layer of clothing at chest level, perferably on the employees left hand side.

Clothing must fit properly, pants at the waist

Shirt tucked in, with belt

And if you have even more time, try the employee interaction game.

Ask an employee a question. They will either answer the question, or if they don't know the answer they are supposed to find the answer, using whatever resources they have.

Some questions:

Where is Scream?

Where are your water rides?

When do some shows start?

Hey, my brother is in the restroom and is really upset becasue he is only 45 inches tall, is there anything he can ride.

See if they stop walking and fully invest in you.

See if they make eye contact.

Do they answer you question and send you in the right direction?

You'd be suprised at how many "Sorry, it's only my first week here.", or "Sorry, I don't know." you'll get.

Stealth Shooters Club, Yeah!

Actually, if we're talking about SF, then no, I really wouldn't be.

But I do like the idea of stealth shooting, and better yet, the idea that maybe some supervisors do read the boards. If any good can come from it, then I'll all for it.

I am actually the guy on the left side of the photo in the gray sweatshirt (the tatsu hoodie). The guy in the black and the girl in the gray are friends of mine from NY. I was taking them around the park. And as final proof, this picture was taken on Thursday 12-28-06. This employee is actually a character escort. I distictly remember this moment in time that you have captured. I actually had been talking with this employee from a distance for a few minutes. He needed to check the time to see how much longer until his characters had to go in. He only had his sidekick out for no more than a few seconds to check the time. I would never defend employee without an understanding of the situation. In this situation I will defend Alex, the employee in question.

Here are some more fun pics from today:

^That last picture, if he was on Limewire or something, I swear you could have gotten 2,000,000 points!

Seriously though, at least it's not a ride operator, he probably had some downtime. If that is true though, it's still no excuse....

These people seem like horrible employese and i'd be afraid to ride a ride where an op was too busy having text-sex with his girlfriend than to make sure the guy behind us was properly secured.

I'd love to be a ride op or work in an amusement for that matter...it's my dream job for the next 5 years.

Can I have a little fun here?...

12/28/06:

1/4/07:

Now I know my logic must be flawed, but the chances that two random "guests" would encounter the same employee with a phone, must suggest that both the employee is on the phone A LOT and that supervisors must be making the rounds less than once a week.

How often are rounds generally made. It was farily seldom I saw my supervisor when I worked at the park, typically if he was around it was because I was encountering some kind of technical problem... Or a bird flew away at the show.

Now, i may be mistaken, but the picture i took this picture yesturday and the guy looks awfully similar...

I wish i actually got a little closer!

Also 1/4/07:

Operations were good for the most part... i guess.

But there were two chicks (I swear they are twins or somthing) who work on deja vu and goldrusher, that were total b*tches.

Magic Mountain 1-5-07: One word-EMPTY!!

Just got back from the park, and boy, there was no one there! I was able to ride every open coaster except for Goldrusher, Deja Vu, Canyon Blaster, and Goliath Jr. Ninja, X, Flashback, and Psyclone were all closed. The longest line I waited in was 10 minutes for the back of Riddler. At around 2:00, even Tatsu was a walk-on! I was able to ride Tatsu 5 times today, with the longest wait being about 5 minutes. The only drawback today was that it was absolutley freezing! When we arrived in the parking lot, our car's thermometer said 49 degrees! Oh well, great day at the park, hope to come back again soon! Sorry, no pics.

People from SFMM are on the board...I'm sure he won't be around much longer.

You really think SFMM management cares that much anymore?

There was a time when they were active on the west coaster centric message boards (ahh...good times), but those supervisors have long since left the company. I doubt Mike gets sh*t for posting online like I did.
