Didn't SFNE start building The Dark Knight coaster before they had the permits? And then not allowed to build it at all? If this is the case with Magic Mountain which some seem to speculate it is, why would theirs be postponed but sfne's cancelled?

My issue with the 'permit hypothesis' is that why would it need to be delayed A YEAR?!?! SFMM always gets permits late, but then they get them and start construction...why delay a whole year? It's got to be something bigger than that, and if it isn't, well...

That's why I'm thinking it's a monetary issue. I mean what else could it be if it's not a permit issue?

^^I agree with Elissa.....the coaster could easily open in June, July, August, as soon as any outstanding permits are finished...cant take till next year to do it....I do like the comment made earlier that it could be financial and the funds used for finishing it might have had to be reallocated. SFI did set a goal for a new coaster for each of its parks for its 40th anniversary next year....since that is no longer the case, perhaps they are pushing Mr. Six's coaster for the anniversary next year....who knows...

Just a side note that I noticed during my visit today was that the parking toll booths were in the process of being painted red. Now there is something that needed a paint job almost as much as Scream.

Is there any chance that they might open it in 2010, but officially changed the opening date to 2011 in order to minimize potential disappointment?

My roller coaster enthuisast-self was praying for a Intrimidator 305 clone for 2011. But if this is supposed to be our ride for 2011.... even better.

It is always a bummer (especially in the enthusiast community) to have to wait an extra season for an already announced coaster no matter what the reason.

 

But aside from this coaster mumbo jumbo, from the screenshot Elissa posted, who else's eye was drawn to the Novela Day advertisement? What a great theme day for a park. Novela's have always been a guilty pleasure.

Its funny but about a month ago I was talking to an employee up in the sky tower, and he said that Mr. Six wasn't suppost to open until next year. At the time I thought he was just an employee that wasn't informed about the park to well. But now with all that is now coming out he was actually right.

I'm guessing it probably has more to do with the permits needed to build stuff in California, which by no surprise to anyone, is a state that can be difficult to work with.

^ Sounds reasonable to me - the permit process in this state is absolutely insane...yet you can almost walk up and get a drivers license...

 

Are we all that disappointed in a relatively small family coaster being delayed a whole season? Especially if Magic Mountain could use more mid-thrill flats first?

 

Then again, I am a Sharks fan, so I'm callous to feeling disappointed.

He would have been right totally by accident. He had no previous information about the delay of the ride.

Based on my ACTUAL PARK experience - those who NEED to know about such things know. Those who don't need to know about such things for their jobs (I.E. seasonals and the prying eyes of "enthusiasts") simply don't. (Not to mention it's against most companies' policies to discuss such items as part of their employment agreement.)

 

Now, an employee who's not sure about relevant items to his or her job, such as where a show is playing...that's a problem. But new products that are still "in progress" or asking, "What's the new product next year?" That's not relevant to them.

 

If every employee of every company knew everything about their company - we'd never have any intellectual property or trade secrets!

I see exactly what your saying. But I think for Mr. Six or any new ride that has been annouced already to the public and has ads running for it, shouldn't the employees at least know enought about it to give responses to guest who see all the ads and want to know about it for their next visit. Because not all the people that see "new family coaster opening this summer" ad are all enthusiasts. I didn't mean to bring this topic up now, I was just now pointing out how funny it was that he turned out to have given me the right response.

Ill go ahead and throw out my totally uneducated theory:

 

Perhaps the parks attendance projections look up, or at least okay for the year of 2010. Therefore, with the ride already purchased and budgeted out, maybe they want to pair it with the opening of some other smaller attractions next year. If they were to put in a few flats next year, along with a smaller sized coaster, that could be something they can market. A flat alone, they really can't, and a small coaster, they can't really either. But together? Now that may be a reason to get people out to the park. . .

 

Even if they were planning a larger coaster for next year, that would also be a marketable situation, specifically toward their family image they are going for. A thrill ride along with a mini ride for the little kids sounds like a good reason for a FAMILY to visit the park. Something new for everybody!

^That thought came into my head as well. If things are looking up let's save all our attractions for when we really need them to get people through the gate. BUT, I don't think that's the reason behind the delay. I think it was something else and this might be a slightly contributing factor. Not a determining factor in the delay.

Well, the addition of this coaster was just going to tie SFMM with CP for the greatest number of coasters, correct?

 

Perhaps they decided to open it next year with a new coaster (or two if CP builds one) to beat the record and use it as a huge marketing tool like the "Extreme Addition" several years back.

There are a few real, and serious problems preventing DanceCoaster from going up.

 

1) Psyclone's ghost still haunts the area.

 

2) All the terminators wandering around after closing intimidate the construction workers. Some Resistance members on their break had to inform them of the threat. When that happened, the workers dropped the track and ran. Unfortunately they ran right in the direction of the terminators' daytime lair in the hills behind the park. They haven't been heard from since.

 

3) One of the surveyors watched "Poltergeist" far too many times and is now petrified of building structures on open dirt lots. He doesn't know what the demolition team didn't remove in case they were supposed to remove something other than the old building.

 

Hopefully all this gets resolved by 2011.

Maybe they eventually decided the ride wasn't a good fit for the park (seeing as their frequency around California), they're going with something else next year, and we won't be getting this coaster after all.

 

Doesn't seem like a stretch to me. Either way, this isn't a big deal...but we did lose some old buildings down in Psyclone Bay due to the beginning of construction which was kind of a bummer. Could have retrofitted them instead!

I am from Australia so i probably have no idea what i am talking about!!!

 

But....

 

When i was on TPR East Coast 2008 trip in Six Flags New England the park attendant escorting us around had explained briefly the reason why Batman ride got canned.

 

Here in Australia you cant start building anything until you have building permission.

 

Apparently in Americam or some areas at least you can start building so long as an application exists for building permission.

In the case of The Dark Knight in New Endgland they started building it and got up, from memory, the ride building and the track had been delivered. But of course building permission was not granted.

 

Maybe the same thing has happened in the case of Mr Six?

 

Maybe they have been knocked back... keeping their options open to decide their plan of attack.

Awww... my park map says coming Summer 2010! I was hoping to have 4 coasters to ride when I take my niece there for Ninja Fest 2010! I guess that means Ninja Fest will be a much better event in 2011.

Maybe it is a "permit" thing and they just put 2011 to make sure they hit that date but perhaps they will try and open it sometime this year?
