iamscottevil
I've been told so many conflicting stories about Superman. It can't double launch because it draws too much electricity and blows breakers, can't do it because weird dynamics in the tower cause mechanical problems, people throw stuff between the cars so it's a liablity, blah blah blah. They never race colossus either and it could too. I think it's also staffing because neither of those are popular enough to warrant two op crews, mixed with various mechanical operation reasons (wanting to keep it open 100% means 50% up and running each 50% of the time. I saw the internationals there today. They're usually hardworking, but cause lots of stress to the local employees so I noticed a lot of confused faces and tired faces. Not too many supervisors in suits out there, probably understaffed like when my brother worked there. He quit because of it. No wonder they don't have many supervisors. Lots of people today though, enjoyed my rides as usual, but I wonder how they treat employees these days or is all the 'new six flags' money going into P.R. and maintenance? Rob complained about someone* hating the shirts, don't they get any input or was it forced on them last minute like they always used to surprise them with big changes? *edited with apologies. robbalvey
Rob complained about them 'all hating the shirts', don't they get any input or was it forced on them last minute like they always used to surprise them with big changes? No, I said that ONE person complained about them "all hating the shirts" but quite a few people I talk to actually like them. Apparently they are more comfortable and they DO make the employees more visible. Please READ my comments before you quote me on them, thanks! --Robb
FeelTheFORCE
Superman was definitely one of the funnest rides I have ever ridden. It's not thrilling or anything like that, but as far as being fun goes, it was, no doubt, one of my top coasters in that category. I don't know what it was about it, but it's just so simple, yet so fun. Maybe it was the "penny trick," or just the zero gravity, in general, but I really liked it and hope it stays there for a while.
nagro5
I also think that an update like they did for X would be necessary. If they could find some way to conserve electricty it would help running costs a lot. I also think they should get new cars, and find some way to make them quieter. I've been thinking. If Superman raced, wouldn't it hurt capacity. If one car was ready to launch but the other one wasn't, it would hold the other one up. Maybe if they get the new cars they can find some way to get more riders in one car. I guess that would help.
trcg721
At first I was against the shirt fearing that it might not fit well with the park. But after seeing everyone with them isn't that bad. It going to suck if they use these shirts during winter. Also if anyone cares, Viper was running 3 trains yesterday and had a total 13003 guest input at Viper. iamscottevil
Sorry for the misquote, corrected the error. Apologies, but I stand by my point without misquoting you. I think i'll wait to see if it's improvement in the staff or just paint with the same old trying but tired staff. Can somebody bring me back magic in a themepark? I dare you. vedved82491
If they could get both sides to operate again PERIOD, that would be an upgrade right there. Then comes working on dispatching them closer together, and lastly figuring out a way to bring the speed back up. In fact, here's a music video somebody created dedicated towards thrill rides, and it even has footage of Superman dueling a few times in the video. (Specifically at 0:51 and also 2:18.) Also note the lack of Goliath in those shots.
PURE
I've been told so many conflicting stories about Superman. It can't double launch because it draws too much electricity and blows breakers, can't do it because weird dynamics in the tower cause mechanical problems, people throw stuff between the cars so it's a liablity, blah blah blah. . Superman doesn't even use all that much electricity, which is much contribution due to using LIMs not LSMs. The wires they used when the ride was first built had problems because of the amount of electricity was going through them (they weren't designed for such uses), which caused the rides delay in 96. The electricity doesn't affect the wires or breakers they are using now (they were replaced to withstand the capacity). Superman actually uses less power than other rides around the park (take some guesses as to which ones). Superman does not have an electricity problem, it has computer and mechanical problems (being the distance between magnets, small margin of inaccuracies, and old outdated computers) which are why it can't launch to 100 consistently (it can clip the magnets at the top of the tower if they want it to). There's nothing mechanically wrong with tower, it was built to originally run 2 trains. Besides a couple bolt replacements here or there, the tower is fine. I think the fact that the train is 250 feet above the midway every launch and that people could drop objects that can do damage is more of a liability than people throwing things between cars (which is pretty much impossible). I don't think a rehab of Superman would be more than 10-15 million dollars considering the total cost of the ride in 96 was 20 million.

coasterking2981
I'm still impressed that X is getting a lot of love, in the eyes of myself & many people I know who aren't coaster geeks X is the main reason to go to Magic Mountain. I've got friends who were really disappointed when they've got there and X has been closed in years gone by. I think when X was open for the first year or two everyone, meaning mostly SFMM and Arrow, was surprised at how great of a coaster X became. Personnally, I think X was simply was one of the greatest coasters in the world, even though it was not the fastest or the tallest. I'm glad its receiving updates on the trains and the new paint. Can't wait to ride X2 Great update! I'm glad my second favorite park is finally being cleaned up and some of its rides refurbished with new paint and such. I only wish SFMM would build an Intamin woodie like El Toro at Great Adventure, though I doubt they have the room for it. Question: Has X2 got its new visual and audio systems and when will the tunnel be installed, if there will be one?

And I know although Colossus is a classic wooden coaster SFMM needs a new one. And i'd love to see a Psyclone 2 with a space diver light show lol
DCody
Ahhhh, I meant Flashback of course! Although Psyclone with Space Diver effects could be awesomely disorienting. I never rode El Toro either, but I've heard all the accounts and I want one, darn it!
RIP Psyclone
Psyclone, it could have been so much better! An Aska/Viper clone in that spot would be great. Psyclone's Revenge! However, as Elissa has pointed out, people would assume it's the same ol' Psyclone, even if it had a completely different layout, like El Toro. AllenA07
^I remember back when I first heard the idea of putting Flashback indoors and adding a lighting show. While it was an interesting idea I couldn't imagine riding Flashback without seeing what was coming before hand. I agree that SFMM needs another woodie, however I still think it's going to be a while before another one arrives at the park. I hope they prove me wrong, but I'm going to maintain my stance until then.
ebl
Personally, I like the idea of a junior woodie at SFMM. That'll give the kiddies sort of a warmup to the bigger ones. And a second BIG woodie (for a total of three) could easily work into the plans. SFStL will have three woodies when Evel Knievel opens, and other Six Flags parks have two major ones. Manic Monte
Well even a medium sized woodie could still be considered a "family" ride, particularly if we're talking about a GCI. Look at Thunderhead or Kentucky Rumbler (more on the small side). My gut feeling tells me the 2009 ride will be steel and not very "eventful". But I hope I'm wrong! To answer your question Viper max is 1700 per hour according to RCDB. 3 trains running on Viper seems like overkill unless the line starts spilling out past the entrance. I think 2009 is going to bring us something along the lines of an Intamin hyper.

The park was nearing overflow lots the past two weeks, so I'm actually glad to see them running max trains when the park is getting this crowded! Hopefully that's a sign of continued good things for the summer crowds. --Robb

I think 2009 is going to bring us something along the lines of an Intamin hyper. A Intamin hyper huh? Interesting thought, but a very good one at that. As much as I would love to have a Intamin hyper I think I would personally rather have a good rocket coaster, but with a more extensive layout than Xcelerator, maybe even a record breaker, say 490 feet or somthing HaHa that is wishful thinking huh! Seriously though, I think a good rocket coaster would fit nicely in psyclones old spot.
ebl
Not to burst any bubbles or anything, but the 2009 coaster has already been promoted as a "family-type" ride, so I wouldn't go expecting a "hyper-anything." Eric
