^ You would think people would normally call it X. But I've heard the following...mind you this is sadly on a very normal basis...

"The Extreme" , "The Viper-X", and my personal favorite.. "The Baja Ridge".

Or maybe XXX - the vin diesel coaster.

X was a lot rougher in August (previously rode it Sept 2004), so I'm glad it's getting some loving because it is a ride the public wants to ride, and me too. And fixing those those diabolical load times, it was 1 train mid August with six minute dispatches at best.

I've never heard that one, but I really like it. I personally think "The Panda Express" would be better, but hey, what are you going to do.

Its strange that this coaster is taking so long to load. I've only ridden it once when it first opened and the load times were fast, what made it slow down? The fastest load times I have ever seen was on Jurassic Park at USH. They are telling u while u are in line to move over to the farthest part of the seat and the ride ops are hustling. There is no excuse in todays time with all of the computerized features on rides that a train cant be loaded in under 2 mins. All you do is sit down and pull the dayum bar down and click a seatbelt if there is one. All any ride has to do is to hurry the people off, then hurry them on, run and check the restraints and get that darn train out of there. It can be done but they aren't telling the guest waiting to get prepared and move expeditiously into ur seat and secure urself. You can put that on the recording that plays while u r waiting in line. There is no excuse for 2 trains to be in the station. Same with Tatsu. Tatsu is self loading. If everyone moves their buns and gets off and the gates immediately open it also can load in under 2 mins.

^I'd be lying if I told you you were wrong, and you're completely right.

Problem is, if you've ever been to Magic Mountain you'd understand that this type of operation is pretty much impossible. The park is almost always understaffed, and the people that actually end up showing up to work rarely give a crap about you (you being "the guest"), or how long you have to wait in line.

There are exceptions, but whenever I've asked a ride op why they don't have a theme park attitude, or why they don't act like they don't want to even be working there I mostly get 2 responses. "I'm just here to work," or "They don't pay me enough." Two of the laziest excuses any employee could ever have.

I've heard "the extreme" but never "baja ridge" haha. Theres the General Public for you, which is another reason why X and the park will always have slow load times unless there are some major changes at the park. The clientèle at MM has to be among the lowest IQ of any other park visitors in the world.

So the company just announced two spinning coasters, two indoor mouse coasters, an inverted coaster, a Wiggles World, a Thomas Town, a new nightly show, and a wooden roller coaster.

All of the park home pages (including those that aren't receiving any new 2008 capital attractions like Six Flags America and Kentucky Kingdom) have been updated with a 2008 season pass purchase page.

Except for Magic Mountain.

No mention of a 2008 Play Pass or 2008 Season Pass. The only park homepage in the chain that lacks it.

Then I thought about it for a bit, and in past seasons, the park only released information about Passes for the following season at the same time with a formal announcement of what will be introduced next year (whether it be rides, a new show, a new Hurricane Harbor addition, or new dining programs).

Any thoughts? Anybody think Magic Mountain's announcement is for a later date?

Or could it just be that they happened to forget to update the homepage for JUST Magic Mountain?

The only way you will visiting Magic Mountain next year is if you buy one of the condos that will be occupying the site.

Maybe they know we are all hanging for some big news and holding off to torture us, or waiting to see if they can get anyone organised for pulling down Deja Vu (interesting to see if MM and GAm's DV's survive).

It will probably be Thomas the Tank Engine if it's anything at all, but who know's. Maybe they will try and pass X off as a new ride after it's refurbishment.

I remember a while back that someone said the Six Flags chain would add 8 new coasters this season across all their parks. Seven have been announced. If it is true that they are adding eight coasters, either one has yet to be announced, or one of the kiddie area has a coaster and we don't know about it yet.

Ya, that business talk-show guy that did a phone-in with Shapiro said 8-roller coasters would be introduced at Six Flags parks in 2008.

I'm still a bit skeptical though.

don't forget sfft goliath! it is used, but they count it as new, so there is 8.

I only counted 7.

(1) Tony Hawk's Big Spin - SFDK

(2) Tony Hawk's Big Spin - SFOT

(3) Goliath - SFFT

(4) Evel Knievel - SFSTL

(5) The Dark Knight - SFGAM

(6) The Dark Knight - SFNJ

(7) The Dark Knight - SFNE

I don't think I'm missing any...

It's not being paved over to make condos or another cookie-cutter housing tract, but I know you were all joking and really know that's not happening. All of you SFMM haters out there, let me ask you this...do you really think SFMM is worse than undeveloped land, a blank slate? It takes years and years to make a world class amusement park, especially one that emphasizes thrills. Despite its faults, SFMM is not unsalvagable. It can be saved. A few more rides (Maybe a TTD/KK clone, an Intamin plug-n-play woodie) and a little more renovation would take it once again past Cedar Point. Closing Magic Mountain would cause a serious thrill ride deficit in this country's #1 state. Sure, SFMM could be better, but despite its flaws it's far from bad, and DEFINATELY worth saving!

Hopefully SFMM is taking some time to seriously figure out what they need to do so that people will actually want to visit and buy passes in 2008. With the new people they've brought in, I think the park finally has a chance.

Maybe Hurricane Harbor can get a Deluge, that would rock!

Very honestly---and it may be a longshot, but---I think SFMM's next major coaster may well be wood. Psyclone is gone (thankfully) and Colossus...well...the old gray ride, she ain't what she used to be. Other Six Flags parks have two woodies (SFStL is getting a third one), so why not a new second one for SFMM? The only hitch is if corporate wants another Intamin plug-n-play (a la El Toro). Apparently, SFMM still isn't doing business with Intamin for whatever reason.

But I think we'll see a small spinner (Tony Hawk) or similar before this.

There's still the rumored Metro remake, too.

Since SFMM is year round, maybe there's not as much hussle for announcements to pump up their Fall SP sales like at the other SF parks that only have a few weeks left to do so. Or maybe with the new GM, plans are still being finalized, who knows, probably not a big deal.

If X does get the new trains, they spend more $$ sprucing up the rest of the place, and do end up with the Thomas retheming of the monorail, would be more than enough newness for me. Could care less if SFMM ever gets a new coaster, so many other areas of the park that need some TLC before they even think about putting more unnecessary coasters in. Been going to the park since 1975, would love to see SF bring back some of the family fun magic the mountain used to have.

Mark Shapiro confirmed that Metro WILL NOT be reconfigured into a Thomas & Friends attraction for reasons pertaining to the wishes of the brand name holder.

You can listen to it in one of the live conference calls. Good luck trying to search for it though.

I doubt a wooden roller coaster will Magic Mountain's next, no matter how inticing that sounds. An El Toro in Southern California sounds marvelous, but I don't think it's realistic.

The regulations for wooden roller coasters being built in California (especially Southern California) are incredibly strict and above national average because of safety risks involved with potential earthquakes. I know for a fact that GhostRider used up as much wood as a roller coaster that would usually be more than twice its size just for structural stability.

The cost for a woodie elsewhere would cost considerably more if built at Magic Mountain.

Doesn't matter anyway. There will be a lot of other things introduced (family rides / kids themed areas) before any talk of new roller coasters for Magic Mountain should resume.

^ I agree with the "EL Toro" thing, but also keep in mind that "any" coaster built at SFMM will be quite different than we are used to. It probably would be built with families in mind, and not stand much taller than 80-100ft. That is certainly a possibly for Psyclone's spot, but probably another year or two off.

I expect to see a Thomas area, new X trains, a flat or two, and the possible removal of Deja Vu.

I would think that the other park's will get the 2008 focus, and SFMM's will be pushed back to 2009, allowing the new GM to get up to speed with the park's needs.

GIVE US A FLAT RIDE! Seriously, there hasn't been a new one in what? 15 - 20 years? There are lots of fun flats out there that they could add that are minimal on staffing needs and could better round out the ride selection. SFMM is a park with world class coasters and flat rides that are relics from the 70's. That's a shame.
