DATman
The camps are stupid, but the problem is the parents. Honestly, to do that to your child is terrible. Basically they're saying, "we don't like what you are, so we're going to send you away to make you what we want you to be." Imagine your parents doing that to you... The psycological damage must be huge, to be made to feel so unimportant.

TheKlockster
Again this boils down to what I said to begin with .. the issue you all should be focused on is the parents, not the camps. I also want to stress that the camps should not be attacked for their views. Ah ok I misunderstood. Yeah my problem with the situation isn't the camps - its that the parents send their kids there. Ok then.
Stitch
It's cool, just look at it this way ... Protests against GTA : San Andreas "It corrupts our youth, it's all the game's fault". No it isn't, it's the child's parent's fault for purchasing a game that was not designed for children. DATman
^^Duh! What other country could bring us such lawsuits as: I spilled coffee on my lap because I put it in-between my legs while driving. Stupid McDonalds! I like eating fast food after school every day. Whoops, I got fat. Stupid McDonalds! My kid fell off a chair because he was standing on the armrest. Stupid chair! I met a sexual predator by adding him personally, giving him my name and number, and let him into my house. Stupid MySpace!

There is a reason games have the ESRB ratings on them. A woman once asked me at Target if I thought that a game rated M would be ok for a 13 year old... I said probably not - but she ended up buying it anyway. There's some dumb parents out there.
ParkTrips
Don't bring the coffee case into this, that has to be the most misunderstood case ever! Mcdonalds was at fault and lost for a reason, and it wasn't just sympathy for the "victim". Otherwise you had a good point The camps themselves are also a problem though! If they didn't exist, parents wouldn't be sending children to them... But thats not always the case! Some people (example: Melissa Fryrear) choose to go on their own. Stitch
The camp is not a problem, their views on homosexuality are their own and they are entitled to them. You saying they are wrong and should be done away with, just turns you into a hypocrite. All people that go to the camps are going at their own will, the cases of minors going becuase of parents .. AGAIN the problem lies with the parent, not the camp's ideal.
Louise
As much as I hate to agree with Jow (and believe me we usually disagree on such issues), I think in this case, he raises SOME good points. And he actually didn't miss the main one for once (only kidding honey ): Being gay is not a choice, and therefore, as much as the teenagers sent to these camps may or may not be miserable, if the kids are gay when they're sent there, they'll be gay when they leave. I'm sure many of the kids are miserable while at these places, and that's bad, but hopefully in the grand scheme of things not too much long-term damage is done. For a lot of parents, learning their child is gay is a difficult thing to go through, in some cases more difficult than the realisation of the child themself, and unfortunately some of the ways they find of dealing with the situation may cause pain to their kids. The only way to stop this, yes, is to close the camps, but I think it'll take a long time for that to happen.

TheGreatOne
There is so much ignorance in this thread, it sickens me. I won't discuss ironies of this, because others have. Calling these modern day concentration camps is insultingly stupid. It is an insult to Jews everywhere (for the record, I'm not one), who faced persecution to the point of death simply because they were born Jews. Millions of innocent people WERE KILLED! No one is being persecuted at these camps, there is no physical abuse. Ironically, sensitivity towards the Holocaust is this issue with this. Jebus, you go over to middle Europe and compare something like this to the Holocaust...you will get the beating of your life. -Bryan "ignorance comes with immaturity" Wood
DATman
^Have you ever thought it meant the Japanese concentration camps? Cause those were a lot better (but still bad)... Just a thought... It's still a dumb comparison.

However Hitler also sent gays to the camps, a less remembered or discussed fact. The truth is, there is a lot of evidence that suggests that Hitler may have in fact been gay himself. Many of his actions seemed to have stemmed from self loathing. (I'm sure endless psychoanalytic (sp?) case studies have been done about this.) People should just accept who they are and move on with their lives or else they become twisted and miserable individuals. Their parents should not contribute to their lack of self respect. It's still a dumb comparison. Concentration camps have been around for AGES. Hitler just happened to do them in the wrong scale at the wrong time, aka, media time. It is a retarded comparison to say the least. ANYWAYS, if the people sent to these camps were smart, they would just sue it as catalyst to better themselves in the future. zaneymon
OK here's my opinion of it It Sucks Why should other people care about peoples sexuality. Its there life and if there happy than other people should be happy for them. I mean i couldn't care any less if every one on TPR was gay i would still come here. My dads gay and i still love him with all my heart in fact in march my he and his partner got married i went to his and christophers wedding and i got wasted off my trolley lol. parents who send there kids to these kids Should be shot. any way Rant of the hook. in conclusion gay people have all the same right as straight people do. pvcoasterguy
This is my problem with Christianity. I simply cannot believe how Christians act sometimes. They protest the opening of the film The Da Vinci Code, then capitalize on it by teaching classes about it, basically debunking every single thing in the book/film. They hate gays, and call them sinners. However, doesn't God say, "ask, and you shall be forgiven?" So, these are two contradictory messages. Churches should be getting gays into their churches and accepting them, not turning them away. The gospel says that all sins can be forgiven. I don't have anything against Christianity, but I simply cannot support how the churches work sometimes.

kk_slider11290
These aren't exactly modern day concentration camps, but the comparison isn't far off. In concentration camps people were peresecuted for their belifes, sure kids aren't being slaughtered by the dozen. Yet they're still being told that they aren't allowed to believe in what they do. BiCoastal Kid
Concentrations camps didnt try to correct them though. Concentration camps were where people who were seen as "genetically and morally inferior" were sent basically to exclude them from the gene pool. They hate gays, and call them sinners. However, doesn't God say, "ask, and you shall be forgiven?" So, these are two contradictory messages. Churches should be getting gays into their churches and accepting them, not turning them away. The gospel says that all sins can be forgiven. Al sincs can be forgiven if forgiveness is asked for before death, as in being saved or reborn I believe. The thing many people say that exclude homosexuality from a lot of that is that homosexuality is a life-long thing so basically after asking forgiveness, they continue to sin. That's the way the church sees it. Also, the more contradictory teaching is that they are supposed to "love the sinner, not the sin." Many simply group the sinner and the sin together and go against it all instead of simply saying,"Hey I respect you and all, but I disagree with the way you are." Luckily, my Christian friends are sane enough to act correctly, and I don't mind that they dont support gay marriage or homosexual acts because they're good people and there's a mutual respect there. Nrthwnd
^ From reacting somewhere above. By the by - I would never commit arson to further my thoughts, beliefs, and differences with others. Being bitchy and catty is muuuuch more fun, darlings! Anyway..... How you can compare things like fat camps which are based on a physical theme (i.e losing weight, reshaping body...hopefully) to something like this which is solely based on one opinion having "a cure" for something that is not nor shall ever be (at this point in time) a choice that one makes and chooses to follow it's subsequent path? I went thru withdrawl and even contempt of myself bout 'what I was' so young (16) in my life. If a camp had been brought into my life, I am sure as sure that I would be much worse off today (if not dead or in prison) for the mental 're-organizing' that somebody is being PAID to do? I have been with somebody for nearly 35 years now. And I KNOW I wouldn't have "pulled it off" by marrying a woman and (eventually) ruining her life, besides my own. Fat camps are NOT Ex-Gay Camps. Forcing the mind into a 'mindset postion' against (probably) one's will, is more damage than any fat camp could ever do to a young person. Talk about your 'Hidden Agenda'. Thought that's what we were accused of, hee hee hee. The 'Gay Agenda.' Priceless. And wrong.
ParkTrips
^Have you ever thought it meant the Japanese concentration camps? Cause those were a lot better (but still bad)... LAME!! Considering they were commonly referred to as Internment Camps, I think you know damn well that the indended relationw as those of the Thrid Reich. This is my problem with Christianity.... I don't have anything against Christianity... lol. Why have rehab clinics for alcoholics and fat camps for chubby kids? There are some people that simply WILL NOT BE "CURED" of their obesity or affection for the booze. Why is no one having them shut down? A lot of obese people and alcoholics were affected as greatly by genetics as any given homosexual. Science generally says that a large part of homosexuality is based upon genetics, yes, but never does it say that there aren't other factors (environment, for example) just like alcoholism or obesity. I'm with Bryan, this whole thing seems ironic.
Nrthwnd
^ Not trying to argue the points you make but... Coming to terms with being gay/lesbian could very well possibly cause and/or include obesity, overeating, alcoholism, drug dependency? Not to mention mental ridicule, threats, general hatred amongst peers (openly I might add), etc. etc. I do not think being obese, an alcoholic, or drug addict causes you to "be gay".
