  1. Saddest attempt at comedy since Michael Richards. So how big is that ice rink anyway? Do they actually use a full size zamboni to resurface it? Just curious.
  2. Because when you get one before everybody else, you are automatically infinitely cooler than everyone else, the graphics look that much better, and the games are that much more fun. I think.
  3. Here is the link to the official ordinance in PDF form: http://www.pahrumpnv.org/Docs_2006/TOWN%20OFFICE2006/Recent%20Ordinances/English%20%20Patriot%20No.54%20C.pdf Personally, I say THANK YOU, Pahrump. Let's hope this becomes a trend.
  4. Nice pics, Joe. And speaking of Thunder Eagle, who's got that credit....and how was it? If the quality was anywhere near the DBH, then that's the coaster Cypress Gardens should've purchased.
  5. Cool stuff, Nicole. For years, I've always heard really good reviews about this ride, and yet I've never seen much to describe what it's all about. While it's cool to catch a glimpse of what it looks like inside, I think the shroud of mystery from the relatively small amount of onride pics, etc. makes it even more interesting. It definitely creates a bigger desire to check it out one day.....sort of like explaining what Spiderman @ IOA is like to a newbie. I'm glad I got to see a few pics, but I'm gonna have to force myself to avoid this thread now. Maybe you should throw up a semi-spoiler warning on the first page. Of course, then again, I'd probably still wanna see it.
  6. Let's just hope he finds the real killer soon.
  7. Thank you. I 'm glad someone acknowledged them. The CG is extremely underappreciated. As far as the Army slogan goes..... meh. Who really cares? Don't we have more important issues to be whining and bitching at each other about while nothing gets done?
  8. ^ Okay, then yeah, I missed that. That does make a huge difference. Thanks Wes.
  9. There's also another way to look at this addition. Not only is this a questionable strategic move for SFI, but it's also a huge risk for a very viable worldwide production company like Cirque. If I'm not mistaken, Cirque only has current "resident" productions in two of the top entertainment destinations in the US - Vegas and Orlando. Taking that into consideration, I think the big point missed in this announcement for SFI is not only "why did SFOT acquire a Cirque show?", but "why did Cirque chose to do business with SFI?" And in Texas, nonetheless! Although I could care less what happens to SFI, I must applaud Shapiro for staying the course in his "family entertainment" vision. The simple fact that Cirque was willing to put their great reputation on the line with this struggling company says something, IMHO. Everything starts with baby steps, and perhaps a new era for Six Flags will begin at the first SF park? I'll admit I haven't followed the latest news concerning the selling of SF parks very closely, but if the company downsizes significantly, maybe this will be considered the new starting point?
  10. Funny how everyone's quick to write this place off due to the lack of major thrills "needed to compete." If I'm not mistaken, Cypress Gardens has survived for 70 years......35 of those being in direct competition with a certain mouse. Oh, and yeah, that Busch park is nothing to sneeze at either. So for those who say it can't possibly compete, I'm anxious to hear your theory on how it has survived for the past three and a half decades. I liken it to Lake Winnie in a sense. LW is almost directly between SFOG and a steadingly growing Dollywood. It only has one 40 year old woodie, a wild mouse, a wacky worm, and is open a fraction of the time that CG is, yet I don't recall LW being in trouble. Many small parks find a way to survive by understanding their niche market. I don't think CG is any different. I bet 90% of the people who visit to ride Starliner will have no idea it used to reside in the redneck riviera. To them it's new, and that's all that matters. It's not like Busch adding the biggest and baddest B&M on the planet, but it will undoubtedly help CG in some capacity.
  11. My vote goes to the parking garage. Can't get more horrific than that. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30449&sid=3ae12a4773cd9939d6f57f6dd5abbba3
  12. I think everyone who's posted in here has a legitimate point for one reason or another. There's simply no easy answer for this one. I agree with the first statement. I'm not so sure about the second. Even life on death row ain't so bad anymore. Trust me on that one. Exactly. Although, if he's killed, then maybe Toby Keith could write another song about how America kicks a$$. Well, I can tell you this much. I've had personal firsthand experience in forgiving a murderer of a close family member. All talk about the death penalty is just that.....talk, until you're faced with the issue on a personal level. Even as a devout Christian, I can't even begin to explain to you the mix of emotions you feel as you sit facing the murderer of a loved one. In the end, and in my heart, I was able to forgive as Christ would. However, the road to that decision is not B&M smooth. I sympathize with every innocent family in Iraq (and surrounding areas) who were forced to endure this man's wrath for years. Compared to many death row inmates in the US, I don't think you can possibly make a case for any sort of reform with Saddam. He is evil, period. If there is forgiveness to be handed down on his soul, that is between him and God. A God for which I'd be willing to bet he hasn't even considered acknowledging.
  13. Our pastor once said, "Folks, not everyone was created to spend eternity in heaven. Thus, hell exists." I applaud your strong Christian stance, but even I'm not so sure this guy needs our prayers.
  14. Without question, the Dania Beach Hurricane. When I first heard about the plans for it, and then watched it's construction on a weekly basis, I couldn't help but think, "aw, how cute, that little FEC is trying to build a woodie." Six years later, it's funny how something so inconspicuous can hold it's own against the top ten woodies in the entire world!
  15. Wow, this really caught me by surprise. I'm not sure if anyone here ever visited this zoo back in it's early years, but it really was one of the best zoos in the country. As an animal lover, it became the saddest story I can remember after hurricane Andrew swept through in '92. The place was absolutely devastated by the storm, and has never recovered. I revisited the zoo with my wife sometime around 2000 out of curiousity, and it was simply a shell of its former self. Not even the incredible aviary, which featured a monorail traveling through it, had been repaired. Although many volunteers worked around the clock to restore the zoo to its former glory, it was still glaringly obvious that the locals just don't have the sense of pride they once had in the place. More importantly, local businesses have not rallied to rebuild it through grants, donations, etc. This proposition to build an "entertainment-type complex" may not be such a great idea in my estimation. If they gauranteed to build the zoo back up to the standards of say, a San Diego Zoo, or Animal Kingdom, they'd partly have my support. Part of the reason the zoo was basically detroyed, and hundreds of animals lost was because it wasn't built with category 5 hurricanes in mind. Rebuilding with protective measures in mind, along with strong educational and conservation programs would get me leaning towards yes. If an entertainment district would provide the needed capital to fund the zoo's growth, I'd vote yes, but not without seeing solid plans which gauranteed the zoo would remain separate from the chaos of the water park, etc. This should only be allowed to happen if the water park, etc. were completely outside of the zoo's boundaries. Amusement-type facilities would only turn that area into what people hate about SFGADV - bad clientele, bad ops.....see where I'm going? I hope the zoo can get back to where it once was, but I'm very skeptical about this proposed plan.
  16. Julie, you hit the nail on the head. It's really not so much how a band was broken apart. It's basically just the fact that the ones listed will probably not perform as a whole, and in their original form ever again. And as far as GNR goes, although technically Rose continues to call his "band" GNR, I think the consensus among many is that GNR died along time ago. I would completely agree with you that when a lead singer dies or moves on to another project, his/her original band dies. With that said, there are rare exceptions. One of those being Journey. The replacement they got for Steve Perry is dead on. It's one of the true odd exceptions as far as replacement lead singers goes. This obviously doesn't work as well for INXS, who should cease to be called INXS, IMHO. On the flip side, GNR is a rare example of a band not having the same look, sound, or feel to it due to the lead guitarist not being there.
  17. ^^ No Lake Winnie stop? Edit: Oh yeah, um, I had a good year. Rode some new coasters. Rode some old coasters. Attended a couple events. Made some new friends. And I look forward to next year. Sorry, not real big on yearly stats anymore.
  18. ^^ If a band member dies (specifically a lead singer), then I'd say the band has been "broken," wouldn't you? I mean, I hear what you're saying, but of all the bands listed, how many are currently still together, and playing music? In Nirvana's case, for example, Cobain pretty much forced a "breakup" by blowing his brains out, you know? Not a breakup where differing opinioins force band members to go their separate ways or anything, but a "breakup" nonetheless.
  19. I recently responded to another music related thread and it got me thinking about how many of my favorite albums were from bands I'll never hear from again. Whether it was drugs, plane crashes, suicides, or just the drummer getting caught with the lead singer's wife, there's been way too many great bands broken apart over the years for various reasons. I put together a simple list of some of the more prominent ones to chose from. I realize there's many more you can make a case for, but I decided to stick with these for fairly obvious reasons. Bands like Floyd, Skynard, The Grateful Dead, The Eagles, and Van Halen have suffered breakups for one reason or another. But all of them have made up, or reformed, and continue to record and tour to some extent. And while bands like STP, Guns N Roses, and The Smiths could realistically reform at any given time, the chances are probably slim. I know this poll could go many different directions due to the eclectic musical tastes in here, so let's give it a shot. I had a really tough time giving my vote to just one, but I went with Bob Marley. Somehow I feel that might be the only vote he gets. We'll see, I guess.
  20. My thoughts exactly. Some of mine are obviously Greatest Hits albums, and many are mainstream, but that's how it goes. Jimmy Buffett - Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays Bob Marley - Legend Springsteen - Born to Run....the title song is the greatest rock song ever! Pearl Jam - Vitalogy The Refreshments - Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy FF - TCATS Ok, I'll put in my vote for this one, too. There are some songs that just really wanna make me pick up and learn an instrument right away. If I knew I wasn't so uncoordinated at that kind of thing, I'd have a drum set by now after listening to Everlong a thousand times. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Sublime - 40oz. to Freedom Frank Sinatra - Sinatra Reprise, The Very Good Years Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's, White, Revolver, etc. etc. NIN - The Downward Spiral 311 - Music The Smiths - Singles Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill, Paul's Boutique Green Day - Dookie Run DMC - Raising Hell Snoop - Doggystyle A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
  21. To all who are wondering what all the fuss is about by losing "just another Arrow corkscrew," I offer you this analogy. It's like remembering your first car (although 99% of you in here are probably still driving, or just now receiving your first). You know it should really be put down, but yet you can't help but to think about and appreciate the good times it gave you. The Python was my first coaster inversion, and one that I can remember waiting close to 2 hours for back in the early 80's. God knows it's been a miracle that it's lasted this long in that park, and although the time has come to retire it, it's still tough to see an old friend leave. If that doesn't make sense to some of you, it will one day.
  22. Amazing. You've accomplished something no one has ever been able to do since it opened: make Magnum look like a great coaster! Seriously, incredible shots.
  23. ^^ Hmm, threw me a curve with that one. Nick's is a good choice as well. I did notice the Galt location was closed, and it's good to know it's not closed for good. Thank you. I'm glad you liked the T-Rex as well. It was my fave, too. Nope. I'm sure my massive fanbase will be severely dissapointed over that.
  24. Nope. Most of Las Olas's restaurants are overpriced crap, IMHO. Jackson's would be the exception to that. Yeah, I've eaten at that one too, but I spent alot of time at this one, and the Parrot around the block. LaSpada's not the best?? Blasphemy!! j/k I'm curious as to your favorite then. I think I might have a guess or two, but you've definitely got me thinking..... Oh, and I'm still loving that this thread has evolved into the Food Network all of a sudden. Good stuff. Thanks.
  25. Quality AND Quantity. That's my motto. Seriously, thanks though. And LOL at the current sandwich discussion. I guess I need to make my way into Philly so I can weigh in on Pat's/Genos.
