Wes, thanks for posting that. Truly eye opening indeed. Joe, I know you had said earlier in the thread that it's so easy to hate a huge successful corporation. Well, the truth is, I don't begrudge any business for striving to become successful, and essentially cornering the market in whatever realm they are involved in. However, what this video showed was the true underlying reason why I have grown to despise Wal-Mart. It's more a matter of how you attain success, rather than if you do. When all is said and done, everything can always be broken down into simplest terms, and this is how I see it (and forgive me, from the computer I'm sitting at right now, I'm not able to rewatch the video). I believe the gentleman at the shareholders conference eluded to the fact that sales (?) for that particular year reached somewhere near 300billion (or at least some rediculous figure like it). He commented (paraphrasing)that that was like one HP, one Microsoft, one etc. etc., and oh yeah, still with a couple hundred billion left over. Therein lies my point......how big do you honestly need to get? Again, there's nothing wrong with growing your company to its fullest potential, but at some point, and specifically Wal-Mart's, at what expense is it necessary to conquer the entire world of one-stop shopping outlets? And, more importantly, at whose expense? Evidently, many hard working Americans' who helped build the companies that acted as loyal suppliers to the almighty Wal-Mart. It's at this point that it simply becomes an ethical question. I guess you need not own a conscience to be CEO of Wal-Mart. I guess the need to crap in a gold plated toilet at home is more important than working with tried and true American mainstay companies like Rubbermaid, etc., rather than helping to close their American plants......and all for a few cents off a rubber gargbage can or a jar of pickles? Someone should remind Sam Walton's family and all who operate Wal-Mart that you never see an armored Brink's truck following a hearse.

A weekend at Disney
BeemerBoy replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow. Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense why it'd be opened in that condition. Maybe Disney's just showing the public what an old attraction looks like before they redo it and cram a new Pixar ride down our throats. Have we met our Nemo quota yet? On the bright side, thanks for showing those pics. Interesting indeed. -
Just think, if we merged this with the "coasters on the moon" thead, the world's only super thread of total absurdity would be born!!! Muahahaha. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21038&highlight=coasters+moon

^ Oh, very true. It's just the pricipal of being bullied into redesigning your entire distribution chain that any major company would find insulting. If I'm Coke, I'd tell 'em to take a hike too, but i just posted that because it proves again that no one is untouchable when Wal-Mart decides to use it's iron fist.

Yes, and sadly, even that proud company fell victim to Wal-Mart's questionable practices as well. http://money.cnn.com/2006/06/08/news/companies/coke_walmart/index.htm

^ Maybe this is one reason why Americans feel the way they do about their jobs? http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/CompanyFocus/MostOutrageousCEOPerksOf2006SoFar.aspx Now who's greedy?

Thanks for posting that - an excellent read. Wal-Mart: it's like the legal version of the mob. Scott "did Sam Walton secretly have Sicilian ancestry?" B. EDIT: oops, that link didn't show up....well, at least not for me. Here it is again: http://www.fastcompany.com/online/77/walmart.html

Joe, who was operating that white submarine in the pic where you pointed out the other cruise ships docking in the better section? Just wondering if it was a local company offering side trips or something? -

I know I've been away for several years now, but when did they move the location to Lockhart? When I was growing up down there, the Broward County Youth Fair was always a pretty big deal, but now it seems really ghetto. -

^ Because it's probably the only time of the year, other than a friend or loved one's birthday, when the majority of people are forced to think about someone other than themselves.

Who Will Play Ohio State for the National Championship?
BeemerBoy replied to PhishyBrewer's topic in Random, Random, Random
^ Awfully generous with that Cleveland score aren't you? -
Wow. Thanks for posting this. My friend and I actually discussed doing something like this last year. Dozens of threads with thousands of views, and hundreds of responses about the Wii, PS3, etc., yet this post received less than 40 views to this point and not one single response. Both amazing and sad at the same time. I no longer own any games or consoles; however, I'll be on the phone tonight with my brother to get him to donate his old stuff. I really encourage every other gamer in here to consider doing the same. Don't be a selfish bastard this Christmas. You know full well there's games in your collection you haven't touched in ages. It's time to let someone else get some enjoyment out of them.

"Kramer's" Racist Tirade -- Caught on Tape
BeemerBoy replied to Chase's topic in Random, Random, Random
^ Agreed. It was definitely insulting rather than simple humiliation. Big difference. With that said, here's a few thoughts. First, while it's NO excuse for the tirade, the idiots who heckled him need to be taught some manners immediately. You're not at the Lakers game, you're at a comedy club. Same applies for most venues of performing arts. If you don't like the performance, shut up and leave. Simple. Second, considering how uncouth it was for these patrons to interupt a performance, as said above, Richards is lucky they didn't just rush the stage and hand out a beatdown. Also, luckily for him, there's not a single retaliatory word in the english language equal to the cringe factor for what he spewed. "Cracker" is actually more humorous than anything else. Third, despite being insulted in that fashion, it's by no means worthy of any kind of legal action. Somebody please squelch their attempt at gaining their 15 minutes, please. Finally, am I the only Seinfeld fan in here reminded of the episode where Jerry showed up at that woman's workplace to heckle her while she worked? Irony. -

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

^ There was theming involved? EDIT- FlyingScooter beat me too it. Anyway, move Dominator to Carowinds, then I'll be happy. -
Thank you, Wes. Having watched sports almost religiously for as long as I can remember, the first "fist pound" I witnessed was by Dee Brown of the Boston Celtics, sometime around 1991-92ish. I remember it well because I had never seen that done before, outside of what Paul mentioned from hockey players after a goal (it's the only thing you really can do when wearing those gloves...for those that don't know). I thought it was so cool (back then) that it immediately replaced the typical "high five" with all my teammates that season. Indeed, many moons ago.

Who Will Play Ohio State for the National Championship?
BeemerBoy replied to PhishyBrewer's topic in Random, Random, Random
New poll: What's funnier...the BCS or The Golden Tickets? 2 more cents while I'm here: Although it pains me to say it, until the Big Ten and "Lack" Ten have to play conference championship games, the SEC representative should get a bit more consideration. Scott "God, please forgive me for possibly supporting the Gators' cause" B. -
