West Coast Bash 2012! TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
johnychen replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just checked the weather report. According to wunderground.com 0% chance of rain and lows in the upper 40's and high's in the upper 60's for Friday thru Monday. Partly cloudy to clear. Looks like it's going to be great weather. The originally predicted rain went away. This will be my first WCB. I attended last years DSB and ECB and had a blast. Can't wait. -
What is your favorite launch coaster?
johnychen replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's what I ridden so far on: Greezed Lightning (Astroworld) Montazoomas Revenge (Knotts) Xcelerator (Knotts) Pony Express (Knotts) Storm Runner (Hershey) Speed the Ride (Sands Hotel) Steeplechase Coaster (Scream Zone Brooklyn) Mr Freeze (SFOT) Poltergeist (SFFT) Flight of Fear (King's Island) V2 (SFDK) Superman Escape (SFMM) Incredible Hulk Rockin Rollercoaster Possessed (Dorney) Top Thrill Dragster (CP) Wicked Twister Twister (CP) Maverick (CP) Kingda Ka (SFGA) Mummy's Revenge (USH) Mummy's Revenge (USO) Out of all these, Top Thrill Dragster is my Favorite with Xcelerator being a close second, with MR. Freeze third. Kingda Ka was just too rough and the restraints were too confining. -

I use a Sony DCS-TX5 Cybershot. Its small and it's waterproof. Which is great for water parks and water rides. It also has a sliding cover and optical zoom. It takes 720p HD video, takes great low light shots, and has an amazing panoramic feature. There is a newer model the DSC-TX10 store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666290114&XID=O:sony%20cybershot%20waterproof:dg_dsc_gglsrch:e&k_id=50752657-10bc-be09-638c-00006fdbc406

Just completed a 48 mile training ride on my new Rans Crank Forward Zenetik. Still trying out different seat adjustments to see if I can get it extra comfy. My recumbent trike is still the most comfortable bike that I have ever ridden.

Can't wait for memorial day weekend. The Houston area will be finally getting a second decent roller coaster. The Pleasure Pier will definitely do well. The closest major amusement park to Houston is in San Antonio which is about 3 hours away. Houston is the 4th largest city in the US in population (size wise I think we may beat Rhode Island). It is spread out and resembles a lot like Los Angeles with a similar international mix of residents. We are like LA with bad weather. Since the loss of Six Flags Astroworld, there has been a void as far as amusement parks go. I see the Pleasure Pier getting packed to capacity just like the Kemah Boardwalk.

West Coast Bash 2012! TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Everything all booked. Hotel, air, and car. Can't wait. This will be my first west coast bash. Went to the east coast bash and the deep south bash last year and had a blast. I will be getting in on Thursday night. Definitely will be doing Disneyland on Friday. I will be leaving late on Monday. Thinking about Universal Studios on Monday since I haven't seen the new King Kong yet. Wonder if it would be worth it to go for that? Or I can go to San Diego and get some credits I never got. -

Just bought my tickets for both days and booked my flight. Looks like its going to be a fun weekend. I'll be flying in early on Thursday and leaving late Monday. Should have enough time to go to Disneyland on Friday and universal on Monday. It be nice to see Montezooma. It's like meeting good old Greezed Lightnin from Astroworld. -
^ I actually saw someone ride a unicycle from Houston to Austin on the MS150 Bike tour. That's around 160 miles. He was pretty good and actually passed me going through the hilly parts.

On my last trip to Denver I went to Buckhorns and tried some interesting food. Had a Yak, Elk, and Buffalo steak and tried one fried Rocky Mountain Oyster(Bull testicles) Being Chinese American, some of the usual stuff may seem weird to everyone else. 1000 year old egg Chicken Feet White Wood Fungus Bamboo Shoots Sea Cucumber Fermented Rice Deserts Stinky Tofu (tried it, don't like it) Pigs feet with soybeans Pickled Tofu (fermented pickled tofu) salted fish jellyfish salad (taste like cucumbers) Pig ear cold cuts Interesting Canadian stuff I have eaten: Ketchup Potato Chips Poutine

I been doing the MS150 ride for multiple schlerosis every year for over 17 years from Houston to Austin (about 180 miles in two days). Here's the link about the ride and my pledge link. main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/johnychen I started riding on an old converted mountain bike with slicks but that got too painful so I bought a short wheel recumbent. It looks like this one. Actionbent Jetstream The recumbent was nice an comfy but it was hard to balance so I went ahead and bought a recumbent trike. Most comfortable bike ever. The trike was great but it was a bit slower than a normal road bike. So I went ahead and bought a crank forward Rans Zenetik four days agao. They say its just as comfortable as a recumbent but has all the advantages of a road bike. Plus it's a good hill climber. Haven't had a chance to test it yet due to all the rain but will soon.

Anyone on here like anime or manga?
johnychen replied to iluvalbinos's topic in Random, Random, Random
Definitely a big anime fan. I founded The Anime Club at the University of Texas at Austin way back in 1987. It's still operating from what I last heard. Some of my favorites are: Original Macross Series Macross Movie Anything Rumiko Takahashi (Masison Ikkoku, Ranma, Urusei Yatsura) Anything Miyazaki Robot Carnival Akira Mani Mani Dirt Pair Full Metal Alchemist Cowboy Bebop Paranoid Agent Evangelion Ok not one of my favorites but do recall screening it at the Anime club for our Halloween event with extreme warnings on our flyers. We actually had a pretty large crowd. Before the screening I told the audience that the following movie contains scenes of graphic sex and violence and to not watch if you are offended. The crowd cheered when I made that statement. -

The "I just did this in a Theme Park" Thread
johnychen replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I drove four hours to SFOT. Had 1 large Icee, beef jerky, beaver nuggets, 1 double double meal at In n out, 3 cokes and a popcorn before I went on the New Texas Giant for two hours of non stop ERT. Felt a little queasy after the 20th time in a row. It was during their Golden Ticket Award celebration. -

What is your local park?
johnychen replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Born and Raised in Houston,TX. Former home park. Astroworld I consider Six Flags Over Texas my home park now even though its 4 hours away. Kemah and the new Pleasure Pier in Galveston will be my closest parks but they are pretty small. Still waiting for Earthquest Adventures. -
I got to DJ Mayor Anise Parker's Election party in Houston.
