Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
frozenflames replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know how fast the ride is going, but I rode it yesterday, and it was my first ride on it, and it was going fast enough that I couldn't keep my eyes open. I loved the airtime, but the turns and twisty bits were still pretty intense (although that may have been because I had gotten heat-sickness and was therefore wasn't up to my full coaster-judging ability). As a note on the park as a whole, I was very impresses with the ride operations, as I never waited more than 15-20 minutes for anything, despite there being massive crowds. Although I left pretty early in the afternoon, due to feeling so horrible. But overall, I was pleased. -

Thanks for all the replies. I'm definetly planning on being there by opening, and I'm ordering my tickets online, so that will save me some time too. I'm hoping the crowds won't be too bad, considerimg it's Memorial Day weekend. But I'll do my best to enjoy it no matter what. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
frozenflames replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a really quick question. It's looking likely that I'm going to go to KD on Sunday, and I want to make the most of my time there. Since it's been several years since I've been there, and therefore am lacking about half of the parks' credits, what would be the best rides to hit up first? I want to make sure I get rides on Dominator and I305, but I'm not sure of the order in which to do so. Any idea would be appreciated! -
I don't do this personally, but I know a few people that do, and I have it on good authority for anyone interested in geocaching that there are some scattered around the University of Delaware (Newark) campus. So if you are near the area, feel free to take a look!

That's it, I have lost faith in humanity

I feel bad for anyone who was named something because of Twilight. It could lead to a lot of teasing and name calling in the future. I actually kind of like my name, even though both the first and middle names have somewhat alternative spellings (Randi Jaclyn). And my sister's name also has a non-common spelling (Alyson). I think our parents just liked spelling things differently. One thing that I do like about the way my parents named me and my sister is that they followed a Jewish tradition of naming children after deceased family members, but they put a spin on it. My parents gave us the same initials as the people we were named after, but our Hebrew names (Razel Yosefa and Avrahama Chana) are the exact/feminized forms of their names. But anyway, IMO if people are going to name kida after a book series, it should be one that isn't cringe-worthy. -
^^ Agreed. With the exception of a Fright Fest visit when there were no water rides running, I have never been to SFA without seeing Shipwreck Falls up and running to near full capacity. Removing it really wouldn't make any sense. As for any new coaster rumors, I personally would be happy with anything, so long as it's a new addition. The park has indeed gone far too long without a new coaster. But I must say, during my last visit to the park, last year, I ntoiced that the park has taken a turn for the better. Everything was much cleaner, and the ride ops seemed to be doing their job far more efficiently. Maybe now with the new management, the park could really live up to it's potential.

I think a "Legends of the Hidden Temple" ride would be awesome! It could be a dark ride, and there could be multiple tracks, one for each of the show's teams: Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and Silver Snakes. Riders would have to cross the temple moat, go through various obstacles (maybe a different one for each team), and then journey through the temple itself, all while being attacked by the "Aztec guards." A "Phantom of the Opera" rollercoaster would be fun too. As you go along the course (probably a B&M or Intamin looper), you would see various scenes from the movie: the Phantom's lair, the chandelier crash, the graveyard, etc. Also, someone mentioned an Aladdin ride. I think maybe a simulator themed to Aladdin's escape from the Cave of Wonders could be really fun.

I really hope that's just going to be temporary. I'm not a very big fan of the monorails being solid colors (hence why I don't find the new monorails in Disneyland to be all that attractive). To me, it's just not a Disney monorail unless it's white with a stripe of a random color. But for those responsible, I sure hope that overlay is easy to install/remove. How many of the trains are they planning to convert into Tron-orails?

Really nice video! You got footage of basically all my favorite things in it, so that made me smile! And the quality of the image is amazing. -

Happy birthday Kristen! Or as it's said in Hebrew, Yom Holedet Sameach l'Kristen!!! -
^ The Virgin MegaStore has been closed for about a year now, maybe longer. The entire chain has closed, and the last one to cease operations, which was the New York City location, closed in the beginning of June last year. I used to love going in there, because they always had really good deals on cds. It's kind of sad seeing the shells of buildings, with nothing going on relating to contstruction. The whole of Pleasure Island should be revamped as quickly as possible, IMO, lest Universal's CityWalk continue to leech on all of Orlando's nightlife-enjoying crowd.

Best attraction ever?

^ That reminds me on an aqueous version of the Catapult/ Kid-A-Pult from the movie Richie Rich. But it's not really something I would want to try, because the landing looks like it could potentially be very painful. -
Parks Coasters and Rides in Movies and TV

The movie Bride and Prejudice features a scene with two of the main characters walking on a beach, in front of the rollercoaster on the pier at Santa Monica. -

^^ Those "wheels of death" are actually pretty common circus apparatuses. They're meant for professional use, not the homemade things in this thread. Granted, they look scary as hell, as there is no way anyone would ever get me on on of those. -
Theme Park Review is on Facebook!

TPR is the ONLY thing that I'm a fan of on Facebook. Everything else just seems so pointless. But this seems like pure fun! -
Coaster Expedition Volume 13 is HERE!
frozenflames replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, that was a great video! And the Mika song worked really well with it! I love seeing how much fun everyone is having in these videos. It makes me really want to go on a TPR trip with you guys, very very badly. *Crosses fingers in hopes of that coming true at some point.* Looks like you all had a blast there. Knoebels looks like a fun park that I should probably try to hit up. -

Oh my goodness! That looks so incredibly fun! I've never been on a blob that large, but the camp that I work at has a small one, and I once blobbed one of the campers so hard she did a backflip in the air. But yeah, I think it wouls be amazing to be the launch-ee on this, with that height! -
New Theme Park Review Videos!

Very entertaining video there! All the Dan/water jokes are quite funny! Although, for the life of me, I can't imagine why you would subject yourselves to that awful looking contraption that is White Canyon again... -
Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
frozenflames replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
There's currently about 30 or so inches of snow on the ground, all due to this awful storm that's still battering the DC area. It's going to be a nightmare shovelling it all, but it's got to be done, considering I have to get back to school up in Delaware by Monday. At least my mom got to pull the "essential medical personnel" card (which she technically is, so no lying there) on the road crews, and got our driveway plowed out for us! Needless to say, between breaking my back with the shovel, and trying to walk my two small dogs, I now loathe snow.
