^Their players club is also going to be rewarding people for ALL money spent on property, instead of just for gambling. I should be there opening night.

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the best part of that thread is the fact Kat has now put forth more effort in the last month into posting false accusations towards Robb than she has updating her website. Which is a real shame, as I am sure all of us at TPR would definitely support a well organized effort to save a classic coaster. Robb's response exemplifies why TPR is so great. Kudos to you. -

It's easy to say that when you are spending someone else's money. It's safe to assume that if SFI was given $50 from the fair board to improve the park, they would have added some major attractions... -

There won't be any proslide rides as shclitterbahn parks are white water exclusive Schlitterbahn had their own water ride company, NBGS International, but they seem to have disappeared off of the face of the earth. White Water now sells the Master Blaster. I would assume this means they bought out NBGS. -
^^Yes, really. Maybe it is because I am from LA, where good comedy is easy to find...but I never once saw a show there that had more than one or two funny lines. And those lines were usually when they poked fun at Disney. I also do see more restaurants as an improvement. The dance clubs were extremely dated, The Adventurer's Club was a novelty thing I had no interest in ever doing again, and as I've mentioned I wasn't a fan of the Comedy Warehouse...

Vote to get SFoT created in Lego!
Jew replied to BrandonR's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Perhaps while you are away from TPR, you can read up on how context works on the internet. Using the rolling eye smilie to make a sarcastic remark (and following it up with "Oh well. It'll still be a fun exhibit.") isn't the best way to convey the fact you were joking. -
Vote to get SFoT created in Lego!
Jew replied to BrandonR's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This comment was totally uncalled for and completely disrespectful to all the members of TPR. Who the hell are you to tell people that they should have only voted for SFoT? And who the hell are you to blame the members of TPR for it? I think they made great choices that do a good job showcasing the diversity of the major landmarks in the DFW area. -

So all their executive committee members can get a free trip to Orlando courtesy of ACE funds... That is correct. IAAPA is a trade show for amusement industry people to conduct business. It is not meant for enthusiasts to come and bug their favorite manufacturers. -

My main question is whether or not Ed Hart is going to cover any revenue shortfalls...assuming taxes will cover it is a huge risk. Not to mention all the other costs the state is going to incur from the park...unemployment benefits to seasonal workers, maintenance of the property, insurance, and so on. Hope the state writes themselves an ironclad lease, or this could end up costing them a lot more than just interest payments on the bond. -
Does anyone have any quotes from Kinzel that he was personally responsible for no fast pass system being implemented. Cedar Point did have their awkward Freeway system years ago. While I love the system when I'm using it, when it is an upcharge it does cause hard feelings to many who will not splurge for it. My biggest problem with Kinzel was him trying to sell out to Apollo Group to make a quick buck at $11.50 per share/unit. Since that was halted and larger shareholders have stepped in the company is doing much better with the stock 20-30 percent higher and the dividend returning. While I don't think Kinzel ever said directly that he was opposed to an upcharge line-jumping system...Who else can you blame for leaving all that revenue on the table? Especially with the company struggling financially, it should have been a no-brainer to join the rest of the industry in that regard. I actually posted on Westcoaster when the rumors of a buyout originally surfaced a few years before the Apollo thing actually came about that one of Cedar Fair's biggest failures was that they were so far behind the industry in up-charge items like valet/premium parking (finally got that within the last two years), more food options like an all you can eat option, more ticketing options like family packs/annual pass deals/etc (finally catching up in that regard), and a line jumping system. To be so far behind the industry with all things upcharge, I think it's pretty obvious that direction comes from the top.

I was under the belief that the brakes behind the station are rare-earth magnets that actually require a wenching system to free the train? That would be a bit of a problem to have at the top of the tower. Nope. They can jog it forward from there. The Winch is there to pull the car back when it gets stuck somewhere besides the base of the tower.

^Stubhub shows tickets far cheaper than that...

Staples Center... I love the Kings, but I hate their sweaters. They need to wear the "Alternate" ones all the time.

Congrats on this! Looks like a great Haunt for a great cause!

I think the most shocking thing is Elissa let Kristen go so close to the fire! -
^Yeah...how convenient...after being caught, now it is alleged that Cecil Newton admitted that it was all his doing and Cam had nothing to do with it. Cecil Newton's church=House Reggie Bush's parents were living in. Kenny Rogers=shady person father conducted business with. I give it a month before a reporter finds the end of the paper trail and Cam is really in trouble.

IAAPA 2010 - What should TPR Check out?
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seconded. See what KMG (who should have a new ride to talk about), Mondial, Fabbri, Moser, Zamperla, Technical Park, and Sartori (I'd like to know if anything ever came of the awesome concept they showed last year of a drop tower with seats that flip) are to. Also, I'd love to see the Chinese knock off company booths! -
^Read both the article I posted and my last post. Calling it a 700% increase in rent is misleading. The lease with the city allowed for financing costs to be deducted from rent, so if a developer kept refinancing, the rent credits never went away. Now that the park faces a possible foreclosure, he can't take advantage of the rent credits anymore and has to pay the full rent. The owner has no one to blame but himself for this mess. This isn't the city increasing rent. It's him not being able to take advantage of a loophole in the lease anymore and also not having the resources to refinance. Personally, I hope this leads to a new vision for the park. The shopping center layout of the place is AWFUL. This developer has only really improved the front half of it. Outside of the wavehouse area (which is awesome), the place is still a mess: empty shops, odd layout that doesn't do its beachfront location ANY justice, no "signature" tenants... Hopefully the city and the developer will use this opportunity to get it right...no one benefits from the park closing, but I totally get why the city would be looking to get something more out of the property too...

I knew it would have something to do with the rent credits... Saying that there is going to be a 700% increase in rent is slightly misleading, since that 700% is probably just what the normal rent rate is without the rent credits he has been using. Hopefully they can meet in the middle somewhere.
