  1. ^Outside of Alabama, the rest of the SEC sure doesn't look all that great at the moment. Oregon can probably outrun all the teams in the SEC right now too.
  2. ^^It definitely wasn't a bad decision to add the show. It just seems like the design principle was "lets make the show awesome...feasibility and practicality be damned! I'm not the one who is going to have to figure out how the hell to keep this poorly engineered show running year round up to three times a night!" At some point, something is going to have to give.
  3. If it wasn't for Fuji Q's horrible operations, I'd say that Splash Mountain @ TDL would qualify as the worlds longest queue. It took me 3 years to finally ride it.
  4. World of Color having issues? Never would have guessed. DL's entertainment department (whatever department Steve Davidson heads...forget the name) shouldn't be allowed to touch anything. They'll find a way to mess it up. I feel bad for the front line people forced to deal with their bad decisions.
  5. Bingo. It's not that these rides can't be maintained...it's the cost to do so that is the problem. Pretty much everything on the ride now must be custom machined every time it needs to be replaced.
  6. Tickets are probably cheaper because they know it will not be as crowded. Notice how weekends are more expensive the later into the month you get? To that regard, it is worth noting that instead of calling the SAW "all new" because they added new rooms, they were honest and said "new traps." Perhaps that is because the other mazes really are all new? John has also confirmed on the twitter page that the mazes are all new. They will probably share some elements given the overlap of the remake to the originals, but John even mentioned how those will be different (example he gave was the famous boiler room...will be larger in the new version). Having worked in theme parks for 10 years, you should also know the "general public" have a wildy different view of things than park employees and enthusiasts. For better and for worse. While I personally hate the hat, the average guest probably has no idea that Disney Studios was themed to old school Hollywood Blvd. and a giant hat ruins the theme. They probably just think its cool they got a picture in front of it. With the Freddy and Jason mazes this year...I just think USH fell into a good opportunity to bring the properties back without having to truly recycle since these versions are owned by a different production company and offer a new storyline to base mazes off of. House of a 1000 Corpses was so long ago that I doubt many of the guests even remember it was a maze at HHN in 2000...and aside from that, this version is sure to be the "plussed" version in 3D. Hard for me to call that recycling when its 10 years apart and in 3d (which adds a whole new realm of storytelling possibilities).
  7. It's worth noting (again) that the Freddy, Jason, and House of 1000 Corpses mazes ARE NOT RECYCLED MAZES. They are all new mazes based on characters that have been used before. Saw is the only "recycled" maze, but even that will include new traps from the franchise that were not in there last year. It's no different than HHN in Orlando, Haunt, Howl-O-Scream, or any other haunt revisiting a popular theme (clown, vampires, crazy people, etc.) with a new story. But aside from that, John Murdy has mentioned a few times on twitter how those properties are the most mentioned ones in guest surveys. Guests wanted to see the return of those famous characters. How dare USH give guests what they ask for!
  8. ^There's a difference between less committed and less established. Believe me, the USH creative team is EXTREMELY dedicated to the event. John Murdy fought for years just to bring it back in the first place. It's not really a fair comparison to compare UO to USH. It's natural for people to do it since they are both Universal parks, but the reality is they are two entirely different events faced with different circumstances. Number one being that UO is THE event in its market. It's been running for 20 years and doesn't really have any competition. USH? No real history and competing with THE established event down the road. USH also doesn't have the alcohol revenue flowing in. So they've carved their niche with movie properties (afterall, they are a movie studio...) that guests want to see instead of just assuming what works at UO will work over here too.
  9. It's an apples to oranges comparison when talking about the old SFKK vs. the current (and future) SFKK. Almost everything (except the location of the park) has changed since then. I think Robb is spot on about what the future holds. A water park (perhaps with some rides remaining) is much more economical for a small market like SFKK.
  10. USC: 2010-11 AP national champions! They'll score 50 a game and only give up 49!
  11. Not to change the subject, but I seriously can't get over the "Project 18" name. I just imagine Six Flags executives sitting in a board room, when all of a sudden one of them goes "I got it! Lets call our top secret coaster project that is going to bring the record back to SFMM Project 18. No one will EVER guess what we're up to!"
  12. I can't be the only one who thinks TRON is going to be a huge flop?
  13. Am I the only one who thinks this whole "project 18" thing is BS?
  14. I honestly don't get the complaining. Aside from SAW (which will still feature some new traps to go along with some of the ones from last year), the mazes are definitely all new. Is a park never allowed to revisit a popular theme with an all new maze?
  15. ^Oasis is the name of the employee cafeteria now. Eat there at your own risk.
  16. This is an AMAZING deal. Knott's has never before offered a front of the line pass (unless you pay $2000 for a private tour). Just admission to Haunt and the pre-scare dinner would be $50 on their own! Add in the daytime admission, the Q&A, and behind the scenes tour...and you get an event you simply cannot miss if you are a Haunt fan!
  17. FWIW, I think you summed up one of the reasons Jay Thomas was was pushed out. He made the park look much better on the surface, but ultimately he couldn't make a huge dent in the parks culture. Still the same old SFMM, only slightly improved under his watch.
  18. Nope. Steel plate covers like that are the most common way to temporarily cover up a giant hole in the ground when you are not done working on whatever is in the hole. It's most likely electrical work or a water line.
  19. Disney's entertainment department at its finest. They decided to order Murphy from a vendor to one specification, only to run it at the park to a completely different specification. And then expect nothing to go wrong.
  20. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/27/10-people-overcome-fumes-mgm-grand-pools-lazy-rive/ I blame MGM for "douching" the pool area by adding WET Republic.
  21. It was a fan drawing.
  22. There's no chance of this ever getting built. I'm sure Goddard is just releasing the concept art as a way to showcase his art in the hopes that another company will pick up on them.
  23. I wonder how well those arms are going to hold up over time. Seems like they are going to be prone to stress fractures.
  24. I think it is awesome they are replacing the SFGADv and SFDK guys with people who were involved with Hard Rock Park....
