Carowinds Discussion Thread
jynx242 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I finally got to watch the POV animation (can't stream any video here at the office.) I have to say, I'm pretty impressed at the length and am really looking forward to riding it. I've never been to CW so I haven't tried out a B&M Giga. I305 is right near the top of my list - but it will be cool to see how B&M does over 300 feet. I have the feeling that I will be able to re-ride Fury more readily than I305 - because I305 kind of tires me out after a few rides and I feel the need to take a break. I'm looking forward to watching this one being built as well. Construction of a new ride always makes me happy. -

I think this could be the thing that gets me to make the long drive up there for Holiwood Nights this year! Can't wait to see more pictures of construction. Watching a ride of this size being built from the ground up is so awesome. I did the same thing with Banshee - and when I finally got to ride it, it was awesome remembering seeing the pieces being put into place. -
Smoothest Coaster You've Ridden?

Dare Devil Dive at SFoG was "science fiction smooth" when I last rode it. Although not very intense - Hydra at Dorney was extremely smooth and quiet to me. Cheetah Hunt is super-smooth as well -

Looks great! Congratulations Carowinds! I know that this has given me an excuse to drive up there next year , and I am sure I will really enjoy it. To all of the people shocked by the bitching - this is the new normal for us . Skyrush - Intamin - FANTASTIC airtime: People piss and moan about the restraints Maverick - Intamin - insanity: restraint complaints Millennium Force - giga - very fast: complaints that there isn't enough airtime B&M: complaints in general I think it comes with the territory these days that we are going to nitpick every little detail about a ride before it has been built - and I find it entertaining. When it comes down to it - the park is getting a great new ride that will be an amazing addition for them. We (enthusiasts) will ride it as well and will most likely enjoy the hell out of it. It won't make a lot of peoples top 10 lists, but that is perfectly fine as well. -

I don't understand all of the "clone-hate" either. Some pretty fantastic attractions are clones - they are cloned because they are successful. I'd also venture to say that a newer cloned coaster or dark ride beats the crap out of a 20 year old re-located boomerang. Just sayin' -
It is really hit-or-miss with Six Flags parks, but that being said - I personally feel that SFoG is a far superior Six Flags park to SFNE. Sure - they don't have an Intamin hypercoaster, but they have everything else. Maybe it is something about being in the South? The people are more often polite and just seem nicer to me.

Awesome report Hanno! I never realized how close to the ground the last inversion is on the 10 Inversion Coaster - wow! That's cool. Loved the final "soak zone" photo! That was hilarious and it is nice to see you in front of the camera every now and then -
If they receive taxpayer dollars, I was under the impression that they could not do this. Well, they can exclude homosexuals because there is no protection there, but as far as not hiring someone because of their religion - I'd think that violates the Civil Rights act. Not an expert on this, so I'd welcome any feedback. P.S. - I was kind of intrigued by the idea of seeing the giant boat and watching it be built - but the most recent headlines regarding the bigotry have completely dissolved any interest or good will I might have had towards it.

^The Feast is absoultely a must to me. Get in about an hour before everyone else - really makes the evening do-able. I also agree that Howl-O-Scream is just a blast. Universal does an amazing event - but I end up having more fun when I go to Busch. Going out this weekend to ride Falcon's Fury. Cannot wait, but am kind of scared.

Thanks for posting. On our last visit, I re-fell in love with the Beast. I found Banshee to be quite fun, but during ERT my group was mainly found on Diamondback. What great extended floater air on that ride! We were also suprised by how fast and furious the Bat was and ended up riding it three or four times during our visit. What did you find the magic seat to be on Vortex? We tried the usuals, but the only magic seat I can think of is the stretcher on the way to the first aid clinic . Good god that thing was rough. -
I, too, was a little taken aback by Thunderbolt. The middle seat in the front was a pretty good ride, but in the back it was very "shuffly," and awkward. I hope that they get the trains tightened up or whatever they need to do to get it right, because I really liked the layout and the airtime was great. I also liked the last corkscrew. As far as the rest, they have done a great job cleaning up Coney Island and making me feel like I won't get Chlamydia from touching things. Part of me kind of misses the "seediness" of the area - but the bigger part of me appreciates the great work that they have done. With TPR a few weeks ago - Thunderbolt was rough but okay. Cyclone....OMG. They have done a great job with it! Ended up riding twice in a row in the back seat (right of passage ) and three times in the 2nd. If you had told me I would take 5 rides in a row on the Cyclone a couple of years ago I would have said you were crazy. Yes - there is still the "death drop" but otherwise it was running great! The Volare sucked. The Pony Express ride was fun. The mouse was a mouse. Air race is FANTASTIC. Spook-o-Rama is absolutely freaking amazing and the Wonder Wheel was terrifying as always.

Carowinds is a great little park that is getting bigger and bigger . I don't understand why people have an issue with "Fury" as a name. I think it is a great name, and says a heck of a lot more about the ride than the word "Centurion" (which I did not dislike at all.) "Fury" speaks about an emotion and a state of mind, while "Centurion" speaks about a soldier to me. Oh well - to each their own. -
hellllooooooooo!??? Anyone out there??? This thread is so freaking quiet lately - I miss you guys.

^ points to Fury being the name. And to whoever mentioned "female themed coasters," you were right. The Three Furies were, indeed, female. -
I really hope it is something other than a waterpark addition or another family area. I don't need a giga or megalite or anything, but something thrilling and fun. My reasons are purely selfish - as I dislike attached waterparks, and they took out one of the best flats ever (Wheelie) to put in a skyscreamer (which is terrifying, but still a swing.)

Thanks Martin! I love the "out of the way" parks you post reports about! I've been to a few of those, but some were completely unknown to me until about 5 minutes ago

Looks nice! Is the floral piece in a triangle on your arm? It is kind of hard to be sure due to the angle of the picture.

Thanks for posting these. I absolutely LOVED Silver Dollar City when I visited, and Worlds of Fun is one of the more charming Cedar Fair parks (because of the leftover theming )
