  1. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Next one: - It's often called "the parking lot coaster". - It's located in California, but has a well-themed, more famous, mirrored clone in New Jersey.
  2. Great pics! The closest experience I've had to this was at SFMM, by myself. For some reason, X2 closed early in the day, which I didn't realize until I walked up to the gate. When I noticed the gate closed with an employee standing next to it, I turned around to leave. The employee yelled out to me to come in anyway. So I walked up through the line, but one of the ride attendants at the station stopped me at the entrance and said, "Hey man, we ain't lettin' nobody else on this ride today." He probably wouldn't have believed me if I told him the guy at the gate let me in. Oh, well.
  3. I'm still on a 6-month, post-jaw-surgery, coaster hiatus, but I did watch a POV of I305 and caught plenty of virtual airtime, as well as some virtual headbanging on a POV of Mind Eraser.
  4. 9/10. Good quote, excellent coaster count.
  5. There were a lot of Flash Passes that day, which just added gas to the 1-train dumpster fire. Still, that was probably a 2-hour line, and I'm surprised parks would keep rides open that long after park closing. Kudos to the ride ops, if they actually did it. That's happened to me a couple of times, with X2 and Tatsu. On the other hand, it's not unusual for TNR to still be running (with VR), with an hour-long line, long after the other rides have closed up for the night.
  6. Here's a ride-ops related question I've been pondering recently. Earlier this year, I waited in a 3-hour line for X2. It was a Sunday, BAFF Day, 1-train ops. The line was all the way to the end of the queue when we got in line. The second train was removed while we were in line, due to technical difficulties. I was there with some friends and we didn't realize the 1-train situation until after we'd been in line for a while, but we all really wanted to ride, so we stuck it out. Anyway, we didn't get on until 10 minutes before the park closed, and I noticed the line was still stretching all the way to the end of the queue, meaning it would take another 3 hours to get everyone through. What do the ride ops do in a situation like this? I really doubt that they'd keep the ride ops employees there an extra 3 hours. How long do they keep going before they shut it down for the night?
  7. Silver Bullet at Knott's nearly did me in 6 years ago. A hot summer day + dehydrated + just ate lunch + first time on this ride. I never actually puked, but I felt very sick the rest of the day. My lunch attempted to re-appear a few times, but I somehow pushed it back down.
  8. Kids were doing it last year at SFMM's Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park. An employee eventually walked over and told them to knock it off.
  9. Great report! Thanks for sharing. KK looks like a nice park, and $20 for an out-of-state ticket is a great price! That Wigwam Motel is a kick. How much does it cost to stay there? I remember my boss telling me about the one in AZ, along Route 66.
  10. I really didn't do much coaster riding this summer, due to jaw surgery, so I'm planning to make up for it by visiting a few new parks next year. Having just caught the coaster bug last year, I haven't visited any other parks outside of my home parks, but I definitely want to visit Cedar Point and Kings Island next year. I've been looking at other parks around that area to visit; if any of y'all have any recommendations, I'd love to add another park or two to the list (preferably a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park, since I bought season passes for next year). If that falls through, I'll head up to NorCal to visit SFDK and CGA. Definitely: - Six Flags Magic Mountain (my home park) - Knott's Berry Farm (also my home park) Probably: - Cedar Point - Kings Island - Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - California's Great America Maybe: - Six Flags Great America - Michigan's Adventure - Kentucky Kingdom - Dollywood - Kennywood
  11. After all the speculation over the past few weeks, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the glaring omission from Thursday's announcements - Viper. Many of us were hoping for a Viper refurbishment, but the lack of a Viper-related announcement leaves the coaster's future a mystery.
  12. I've only been annoyed once by someone else's screaming. A lady behind me let out shrill, ear-piercing screams for the entire ride (including the lift hill), and it was obviously a "fake" scream, done to entertain herself and her friend. Other than that one experience, I enjoy hearing other people's screams on roller coasters. Heck, I scream, too. It's the natural consequence of the combination of fun/terror that roller coasters give you.
  13. Another vote for Goliath's MCBR at SFMM, as well as Full Throttle's final break run.
  14. My primary goal is to ride everything. And I mean everything, not the "coaster fanatics top 3 everything." Ok, not everything, not the kids rides. but yes many of the flat rides, including the swings and teacups. So im concerned that 8 hours isnt enough time. Magic Mountain has a whopping total of 4 flat rides (plus the carousel), and they're never crowded. You won't have any issue getting on those. In my experience, the park usually isn't crowded on days when they close at 6:00. Like others have said, school will be in session by this point, so the park should be a ghost town during the day. On uncrowded days, I've been able to cover every coaster in the park (excluding the kiddie coasters), plus a few re-rides, in about 4 hours. So if you arrive when the park opens, you should be able to cover everything (and even have a few re-rides) before the park closes.
  15. Out of the coasters I've ridden so far: B&M - flying coaster Intamin - Accelerator Premier - launched, looping coaster S&S - 4D, controlled-spin coaster Arrow - mega-looper Vekoma - Boomerang Schwarzkopf - looping coaster RMC - I-Box hybrid
  16. Ninja is one of the park's few family coasters, so I don't think they'd remove it unless then plan on replacing it with another family coaster. I honestly think they'd remove Viper before Ninja.
  17. I agree that Viper's closure is a matter of "when", not "if", but I wouldn't be so sure that Viper is leaving this year. The park still seems to hold it up as one of their top coasters (ie., using it in signage and ads around the park, selling Viper merchandise, etc.) You'd think they'd start to scrub these images if they were planning on removing it this soon. Also, Six Flags seems to be more interested in revamping their existing coasters than installing new ones. If Blue Hawk is successful in drawing crowds, maybe SF will do the same with Viper - give it some new trains, a new color scheme, maybe replace some of the more awkward/worn sections of track, and give it a new name. But who knows? I know I'm in the minority of park-goers when I say Viper is in my Top 10, so this could be wishful thinking.
  18. After riding Green Lantern: First Flight at SFMM, that is definitely my least favorite Intamin.
  19. To make it worse, all of its coasters are sent to the scrap yard. Your favorite coaster will debut with VR this season.
  20. I didn't see a date on it, but the trolls were the park's mascots from 1972-1985. When I get a chance, I'll take a closer look to see when it was made. WOW!I remember that character from Magic Mountain. Geeesh, I even have pictures with him from back in the early 80's. How did the Jaw surgery go? Well, I've been pretty miserable the past few days, but I'm starting to feel better today. The surgery was a success, though, as my teeth now fit together. Thanks for asking!
  21. I'm up in Santa Barbara getting jaw surgery this week. I visited a local thrift store yesterday and stumbled upon this gem. It makes up for not being able to ride coasters for at least the next 8 weeks.
  22. To make it worse, the thread dies because nobody can think of a reply to that. You get food poisoning while visiting a theme park.
  23. Twisted 'Wiches does accept the dining pass, for the turkey and Italian sandwiches.
  24. Slow business, combined with an increase in their monthly rent, convinced them to close up shop. It's a shame. I never went in there to eat, but last year, we picked up some pies there and headed over to SFMM for my bro's birthday. After riding coasters for a few hours, we walked out to the car to take a break and eat some pie. I'll definitely miss being able to do that.
  25. Last coaster I rode was Twisted Colossus, though I ended the day with Lex Luthor Drop of Doom.
