  1. That would be awesome, but there is no way Six Flags will buy that New Orleans park again. It was their least profitable park while operating and, as it is, the cost of repairs would exceed the park's worth. That was the reason Six Flags cut their losses and got out of Dodge (with their hefty insurance check in hand). That was right after the hurricane. Since then, the park has been looted, vandalized, infested with snakes and gators, and left to rust in the weather for 12 years. The cost to refurbish the park would be much more now. Now, if another company rebuilt the park into something profitable, I can see Six Flags looking to buy it again. The way it sits now, I don't think the company would touch it with a 100-foot pole. Maybe. I'd love to see that one company lead by Tonya Pope win the favor of the city so they could reopen the park. Their plan would include retracking the Mega Zeph and getting Timberliners for it (imagine, it was a fantastic ride back then, even with Gerstlauers, imagine it with Timberliners!), reopening the Jester with new trains and a lot more themeing and under the name "Driskill Mountain," a full new water park, they would use the old Jocco's building for a recreation of the classic "Laff in the Dark" ride (they said there would be some Jocco Easter eggs), new water rides, more shows, and more overall themeing. But I don't see why the city is so reluctant to let anybody have the property. The Jazzland Park (the one lead by Tonya Pope) Facebook page gives weekly updates and the city has been pushing this around for SIX YEARS. But something interesting I learned when listening to in interview of Tonya Pope on In the Loop, is that Six Flags New Orleans actually pulled pretty good attendance numbers. She said that each year, the park averaged about 800,000 guests, which is pretty good. That is interesting, as I'd always heard that the park hardly made any money because of its location in a relatively poor area, where many of the locals either weren't interested in, or couldn't afford, season passes. The park was already on the verge of bankruptcy when Six Flags scooped it up. But then again, I received that info from enthusiast blogs, so it may or may not be true. I hope Tonya Pope is successful in reviving the park, though. I never visited the original park, but the idea of a Mardi Gras theme park seems like a lot of fun. The Mega Zeph looks like a great ride, too.
  2. No. Do you have an Android?
  3. The park has taken measures to reduce the noise produced by their rides (ie. Silver Bullet's sanded track and the overhang on Ghostrider's first drop), but I don't know if the city required them to do that or if they just did it to eliminate potential complaints from neighbors.
  4. 1) Twisted Colossus - For now, this is the only RMC I've ridden, but it's - hands down - my favorite ride at SFMM. It has inversions, lots of ejector airtime, and if you're lucky enough to race another train, it'll add another element to the ride experience. This ride also has great operations; if you're there on a crowded day, go to TC and you'll be on in about an hour or less. 2) X2 - one of those rides that you either love or hate. IMO, it's an excellent ride. 7th row is the place to sit. The drop is intense and you'll get plenty of ejector airtime on the turns and flips if you sit in the 7th row. The reason it's not my favorite ride is the roughness. If you sit on the right side (the side closest to Viper as you get on), the last flip at the end will deliver some headbanging. I have no idea why. Somehow, I always end up on that side. The other side is relatively smooth, though. 3) XCelerator - the very first Intamin Accelerator. This ride has a fantastic launch, and the overbanked turns are fun, too. The downside is you spend more time waiting for the next train to dispatch than you do actually riding. 4) Tatsu - So far, this is the only flyer I've ridden, but I love it. The lift hill is terrifying, and the rest of the ride is a lot of fun. The intensity on the loop is akin to X2's first drop. It'll shove your head against the seat for the duration of the loop. The downside to this ride is that its operations aren't the best. Depending on whether they're running both stations, you may get stuck lying on your stomach while waiting for the next train to dispatch. 5) Full Throttle - a short, yet fun launched coaster. It feels like you're in the loop forever. It pauses at the top of the loop, giving you a few seconds of hang time. The two launches out of the tunnel are cool, and the top hat over the loop gives some floater airtime before you hit the brakes at the bottom. Downside is the same as XCelerator - it's a short ride, and you spend a lot of time waiting for the next train to dispatch. 6) Viper - a classic Arrow mega-looper. I don't care what anyone says, this is an amazing ride. The drop is thrilling if you're in the back, as you can't see the track in front of you as you get flung over the top of the lift hill. The three back-to-back loops will leave you dizzy, but the MCBR gives you time to re-coordinate yourself. The last half of the ride is slower than I'd prefer, but the upside is you get plenty of hang time in the inversions. If you're tall like me, the roughness won't bother you. 7) Batman - definitely the hidden gem of SFMM. It's way in the back of the park, so people tend to forget about it. It's the oldest B&M in the park, but somehow still the smoothest and definitely the most intense. It's not much different from SF's other Batman clones, other than the color scheme. 8) Matterhorn Bobsleds - another classic Arrow, and it's known as the coaster that laid the foundations for coaster track as we know it today. It's rough and jerky, but given its age, that's not surprising. The special effects were updated about 2 years ago, and the dueling tracks make this a must-ride at Disneyland. 9) Apocalypse - currently SFMM's only true woodie, and a very intense woodie at that. Its tight turns and hills deliver plenty of ejector airtime. It hasn't aged well in the California sun, but after its recent retrack, it's another hidden gem, for the same reasons as Batman. 10) Ghost Rider - Knott's woodie. This coaster also suffered from the CA heat, but its 2015 retrack seems to have smoothed it out. It's chock full of airtime hills, which give a decent amount of floater airtime. I still prefer Apocalypse, though.
  5. You always have impeccable luck with webcams. First you saw TTD roll back, now this. I don't see the valleyed car, but another one is stopped at the top of the lift hill.
  6. Yes. Do you like ketchup on macaroni and cheese?
  7. No. Do you order alcohol at restaurants?
  8. Khaki SLC or Boomerang?
  9. They both have SLC's . . . . La Ronde and Six Flags Over Texas They both have Batman clones. Also, SFMM does not have an SLC. Morey's Piers and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

  11. That's really a cool sign. It looks like they went all out with the green and purple color scheme. I like it, it's much more appealing than the entrance to SFDK's joker.
  12. I'm perpetually tired. Have you ridden any "good" Vekoma SLCs?
  13. Do you think I'd live in a house that has some crappy Wal-Mart TV stand and 1960s curtains? Are you saying you DON'T?
  14. Knott's Network posted some more pics of the construction going on around the park. Boomerang's station and the support towers for the inversions have been removed, leaving only the two lift hills still standing.
  15. No, I usually shower at night. Do you live close to your favorite theme park?
  16. Robb, did you actually turn your TV on its side to prove your point, or did you find that pic on Google?
  17. About a week ago - Revolution at SFMM. When was the last time you tried a new (to you) roller coaster?
  18. I took a few rides on refurb'd Apocalypse yesterday; it is definitely smoother and a little bit quieter. It still has the normal roughness you'd expect from a wooden coaster, but it's not a headache-inducer like it was before. To make it better, the park was a ghost town yesterday, so I had the train to myself 2 out of my 3 rides. Head down to the park and give it a try, if you get a chance.
  19. CSUN doesn't have much of an impact on SFMM's crowds, in my experience. If you go mid-week while LAUSD is still in session, you should be fine.
  20. Last October, on Riddler's Revenge. When was the last time you took a test?
  21. any word on whether it's better?? This was their comment:
  22. Park Journey posted on their Facebook page that Apocalypse reopened this morning.
