What is the coolest coaster name?
joelwee replied to Hilltopper39's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite coaster names: Fireball El Diablo Eye of the Storm Joker: Chaos Coaster Mardi Gras Hangover -
That's interesting. When I bought FunPix at Knott's (at the park), I asked the dude at the photo counter if it was valid at other Cedar Fair parks, since I was buying it for a Platinum Pass. (This is my first year buying a PP, or visiting any other Cedar Fair parks.) He confirmed that it is, but mentioned that other parks will probably have to "enter it into their system" before I can use it, since I bought it at Knott's. Is that typical with other parks, too?

Personal phone: iPhone 5S 32 GB Work phone: Samsung Galaxy J7 I bought the iPhone in 2014; it was on sale, since the iPhone 6 was about to be released. I replaced the battery in late 2016 after it began having difficulty holding a charge. It's reaching that point again, but since I'm planning on upgrading once Apple stops supporting the 5S, I'm not sure if it's worth replacing the battery again.

Hangtime was testing with riders on Monday. (Skip to 7:33). This dude took quite a bit of footage that day. It looks pretty sluggish in the beginning, but it looks like it generally speeds up a little bit by the end of the video. It was also windy that day, which I'm sure was a factor in its sluggishness. I can't wait to ride this thing.

^ Dang, I'm going to miss pancake flavor by one day. I'm planning on being there June 4th. -
SLC'S?
joelwee replied to coaster_type_of_person's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have yet to ride an SLC. T3 would've been my first SLC this June, but we decided to go to Kennywood instead of Kentucky Kingdom. However, if I make my planned NorCal weekend trip later this year, I'll definitely ride Kong to see if it's really that bad. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

I'll add: Noah's Ark--one of the best, most involved walkthroughs around these days. Tread carefully, as some find it treacherous. Auto Race--quirky, one-of-a-kind auto ride. It's not a generic antique autos style--IIRC you don't control it yourself. Ghostwood Estate--well-themed shooting dark ride set in a haunted house. Also, it's not one of my favorites, but the carousel is classic, and typically runs the band organ. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm really looking forward to checking out this park. -

Hey guys, I'm thinking of adding a first-time visit to this park the day after Coaster Mania (Saturday, June 2). How are crowds this time of year? Any advice for a first-timer? Thanks in advance! -
Where Are You Going in 2018?
joelwee replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I planned my May/June trip, so my listing has changed quite a bit. I'm also planning a weekend trip later this summer, up to NorCal, but it's not set in stone yet. I really want to get up there to try Railblazer and Joker; plus, I'm not sure if I'll renew my CF Platinum Pass next year, so I want to get my money's worth out of it this year. Definitely: - Six Flags Magic Mountain - Knott's Berry Farm - Cedar Point - Kings Island Probably: Kentucky Kingdom Kennywood California's Great America Six Flags Discovery Kingdom -
Disaster Transport at Cedar Point. - One of three similar looping roller coasters that opened in the late '80s/early '90s. - The only one of said looping coasters to not have a trim brake after the first loop.

^^ Great report. I really liked the park's Boysenberry Festival offerings this year, as well. I went again on Sunday, for the last day of the Boysenberry Festival, and it was packed. I bought a tasting card, but the food lines were anywhere between 10-40 minutes. Since I had already tried everything a few weeks ago, I spent all of the tabs on sausage, short ribs, pierogies, and elote, since those were my favorite items. Ride lines averaged about an hour, but they began to dwindle around 8:00. The food lines, however, did not. They were packed all the way up until park closing. While the food stands were open until 10:00, the booze stands (in the building next to Pony Express) closed at 9:00. At 8:55, a guy came up to my group and gave us a mostly-unused drink tasting card, since he had to leave. We quickly ran inside and redeemed all the unused drinks on boysenberry wine. It tasted more like punch than wine, but it was quite tasty. It felt great to ride Xcelerator again; I really missed it over the past few months.

Viper, Revolution, and Apocalypse are some of the least popular coasters in the park - often with station waits, except on really crowded days, so for the most part, I don't think their downtime will have too much of an impact on the rest of the park. That being said, I really enjoy all three of them, so I guess I'd better get my rides in before summer.

Has anyone stayed at Comfort Inn River's Edge in Huron? I waited until now to book my hotel for CoasterMania because my Choice Privileges membership only allows reservations up to 50 days in advance when using Rewards points. Econo Lodge North is sold out, so my options for cheap hotels are Econo Lodge South or a few different Comfort Inns. I've heard a few complaints about Econo Lodge South on this board, and CIRE is the cheapest Comfort Inn in the area. It looks like a halfway decent place, and it's a 20-minute drive from the park, which isn't too bad. What say ye? -

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
joelwee replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have some relatives whose last visit to SFMM was in the early '80s. When I mention that park to them, they usually ask something along the lines of, "Do they still have that roller coaster that goes upside down?" It's funny how much of an impact Revolution had on people back then, to where that's the only thing they remember about SFMM after not visiting in 30+ years. -

That's a fantastic-looking train! CoasterMania can't come soon enough. I, personally, don't like to watch POVs of coasters that I'm riding for the first time in the near future; I don't want to spoil the surprise. Is that just me, or does anyone else think that way, too? -

Unnecessary Queuing Lines
joelwee replied to palmerleeberry's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFMM's B: TR uses its full queue on crowded days, but Viper is a different story. I've heard stories of its prime, when the queue line would not only fill up all the switchbacks, but would stretch all the way down to the front plaza. Those days are long gone, however, and the line hardly ever reaches the lower level of the station, except on crowded days. I've never seen the switchbacks being used. -

Does Kings Island typically raise the price of their online tickets after the season starts? I'm looking into daily tickets for someone who's going there with me in June, but we're not sure whether we're spending one or two days at the park, and we probably won't know until we're actually on the trip. Would I be better off buying a 2-day ticket now, or waiting until June to figure to figure out which ticket we'll need?
