  1. trackwork is done, time to start the supports and 3ds.
  2. I guess it varies per individual. I get sick on rides that spin constantly around their axis thing, while quick momements leave me untouched.
  3. I'm not sure if you are that good of a lawyer by sueing everybody at the same time without the first inspection done. I don't think it's a design flaw because Intamin has coasters like this all over the planet and this is (i think) the first time an axle broke. So that leaves 3 options. Either Holiday Park didn't inspected the ride properly, the axle was not manufactured properly or something (another piece of train perhaps?) hit the axle so hard it broke. Untill more details are known, I'm just gonna sit back and mind my own business.
  4. I would suggest merging #1 and #2, if you know how to do that. Otherwise I'd still go with #2
  5. Interesting article. I always thought my loss of hearing was caused by female teens screaming their lungs out. But I'm confused by the line where they say he rode the ferrari coaster, which is still under construction.
  6. If only Toverland had the same theming budget I'm jealous
  7. There are no real rules about inversions, but the most common rule is that the track should be banked at least 155 degrees while having an angle with ground also of at least 155 degrees.
  8. Is the 115 ft. height limit only for track but also for supports and 3ds? You said 3ds may exist outside the boundries, but can they also be inside the boundries?
  9. No need to rush things. I was just checking in to see if it wasn't abandoned. Take your time.
  10. What exactly do you mean by minimum speed. Can the train never go under 45 or should the top speed be above 45?
  11. My god how awesome was Flight Deck. I never expected such a short coaster to be that powerfull. I wish B&M would make more of those little cuties.
  12. Gilroy Gardens was a cool park, in it's own kind of way. The park was beautiful and the landscaping and trees created lots of shadows on that hot day. The minetrain ride was awesome, the way it's build on the terrain and how close you get to the trees really kicks you in the face. The kiddie coaster was really fast (for a kiddie), and a lot of fun when you take it over. Then the rock maze, that was epic. I managed to get out as one of the first by taking left after left after left after left and there was the exit. Now I could make fun of everybody still trapped in the maze and stupid enough to follow our directions. The day will also remain in my memory because the moment the ERT ended, I called for a cab to take me to the nearest store to get myself a new camera, as mine 'old' one decided to break down the previous night. And horray for Robb for resurrecting the thread. I can't wait to digg up memories from the epic trip.
  13. The principle is pretty simple. You first pump liquid from a reservoir into a piston filled with (nitrogen) gas. This builds up potential energy. Now, you close of the tube coming from the reservoir and open another that leads into a turbine and back into the reservoir. Because of the energy stored in the compressed gas, the piston will push the liquid through the turbine and back into the reservoir. While the liquid passes though the turbine, it will rotate, and the drum and cables attatched to that turbine will make the train accerate. There was this wonderfull article at pointbuzz at one time, but it's gone now. I've upped a picture I used a while back for a presentation:
  14. Well yes, but we call it ERT or Qbots.
  15. Well, here's my entry, hope you people like it: T-65Xa.nltrack download
  16. I dont think its all water, the water around scorpios is darker and actually has a water texture, the blue under boosterbike and under troy is lighter and no texture, so I'm guessing its just to make it look better ^^ btw, i don't want to get ahead of myself here, but in the video you can see that booster bike has some theming with a colosseumlike structure at one end. I really hope they will (re)theme boosterbike, because it really doesnt fit in with the rest of the outdoor area, especially with the new attractions. Although i don't know how they would make the bikes work in this theming.. Either chariots or off-road bike might work
  17. Several themepark-fansites reported from the press conference via Twitter that Toverland will build a 45 foot swingship called Scorpios, which will feature special effects and something called a 'horsetrack' for 2010. In 2011 the park will build a Mack Supersplash called Odysseus. I'll keep you updated as more news becomes available. EDIT: It seems that the Supersplash is just a rumour...Toverland only confirmed that they are building something for 2011, but not what.
  18. If you use Newton you don't need the NL-editor and AHG. In Newton, you can build the entire track, with perfect banking. The only thing you need the editor for are supporting the ride. If you handbuild the track, you use AHG afterwards for correcting the banking. There is no way to get a trackpiece you build in the editor into Newton, Newton only exports (sections of) tracks. Elementary is similar to Newton, except that isn't far from user-friendly and you have to work out all the formulas yourself. The difference between Euler and Quaternion is that you use the latter for inversions.
  19. I found it hilarious that the BMW team has a Ferrari engine. It's like Virgin Racing being sponsored by British Airways. BMW is no longer involved in the team. But because it was bought back by the same guy that owned it when it was BMW Sauber (before Williams) he somehow still can use the name BMW, while they have nothing to do with the team anymore.
  20. Thank you guys for all the comments, whenever I go to a park again, I hope I can bring back some neat HDR pictures. Oh, by the way, here's a link to 5 images I used to compose one HDR image: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/4241/troy5exp.jpg I also use photomatix, and it is indeed awesome.
  21. I think Hamiltion will win the driver's championship, while Mercedes GP run away with the constructors prize. Either that or I'm €5 poorer.
  22. Last week I was in Toverland, showing Looty around the place and while I was there, I figured I'd test some technique I read about. The principle HDR photography is pretty simple, you take 3 pictures with different exposures and combine them. I'm pretty sure wikipedia has more info on this if you're interested. Now I am no experienced photographer, nor do I have a DSLR (just a compact) and this was my first experience with HDR. So don't expect any masterpieces, but if you have any comments or tips, they are most welcomed.
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajhnSnre8CI The guy says Joris en de Draak around 0:29. Foreigners, make sure you practice enough!
  24. ^El Toro's drop isn't as straight as you might think: I can't wait for this to open. It may be tame because of the low height, but the racing/dueling thing might be just enough coolness to overcome that.
