Parc Asterix Discussion Thread

Agreed. As far as stand-alone elements go, this is indeed the first 'free standing' dive loop in on invert. But the shape/motion has been done before. -

If you do a little research, you find out that it is in fact the only B&M Invert with a dive loop. Afterburn's batwing is quite large, you could call the first half a dive loop. -

Hmmm, the station doesn't seem to be long enough for a separate exit and boarding station, so perhaps we will see a switch track double station? -

Barrel Roll? Do you mean the Zero-G-roll? -
Behemoth & Leviathan

^It does seem likely. But surely there is another park in the Cedar Fair chain that could use a hypercoaster better than a park that got the same type of ride four years ago. -

So, here an onride I took compared to Robb Alvey's POV. I'm sorry the clip isn't detailed or top quality, but you can see it's pretty well synced. -

What a strange ride. Can't wait to hear the motivation from the park for making such an odd move. -

TPDave posted this a few pages back, but I think it went unnoticed: What if they are placing this ride 'on top of' behemoth, creating a dueling/racing B&M hyper combo. I mean, that would be one of the more believable reasons to build it. While I am happy with every large coaster being build period, I can't help thinking about how odd it is to build two virtually the same coasters in 5 years. -

Ouch! Not only is that a horrible track, it seems that the 2nd half of the layout is wrong too. -

Made some progress today. And yes, it will be custom supported, the prefab supports were just placed to give a better sense of height and layout and stuff. If I have enough time I might even make 3ds and train textures. Right now I'm still working on the corkscrews, I can't seem to nail the shape down, so any comments on that is appreciated. Some more shots: Drop Zero-G Roll Cobra Roll Corkscrew 1 Corkscrew 2 Helix -
When I work in No Limits, my favourite type is the B&M Invert. This is also reflected in my top-10 steel, from which half is a B&M invert. Anyways, after my vacation to Italy (trip report will follow soon) I have appreciated Katun even more as one of the best roller coasters in the world. And since I was out of inspiration as well, I thought it would be a nice challenge to recreate the thing. At this point the layout is as good as done, though some areas need tweaking.

Coaster Train Tech..How is it Powered?
hyyyper replied to SoCalCoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That seems like a weird and unsafe way to do it. From what I've from some flyers is that the pin that holds the seats in flying position is screwed into place by a motor that receives power from the station. As soon as the train leaves, the motor cannot retract the pin and since the only force acting on the pin is downward (the weight of the seats), it will never go anywhere. If you need a constant power to keep the thing in place then you're going to have a lot problems when the electronics fail. -
Well, recently there was a 24hr marathon on Troy in Toverland. And during the night, the ride was indeed as fast as it had ever been. A lot of the energy created by the friction of the ride for half a day, makes the lubricant more 'slippery', like coasterlover said. However, at a certain point in the night, the temperature drops which cools down the ride faster than it can warm up. Expansion/contractions doesn't seem likely, as you need a much higher temperature difference for that to become a factor. Also, you will notice that many tracks have little gaps between track segments to expand freely.

It's only 10 meters longer than Troy and about the same height. Makes me wonder where they go the extra 10 kph from. -
