Photo-TR: A Short Trip To Bahrain and Dubai!

The Burj Khalifa is scary huge. Those buildings next to it are probably close to 1,000 feet tall but look microscopic compared to it. -
I'm not THAT picky, but I am pretty bad. For example, while I do like eating some stuff, I'll only eat them in a certain form or on certain things. Such as: I love beef, but I refuse to eat meatballs or pasta sauce with ground beef in it. I'll only eat cheese if it's on macaroni and cheese, pizza, subs, or a grilled cheese.

Looks like the writing is definitely on the wall, if it hasn't been already. -

Going to parks alone?
Josh Linn replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't prefer it, but there are some positives. You can go when you want, leave when you want, ride whatever as many times as you want, etc. Having nobody to talk to sucks, but it's still very possible to have fun. -

Agreed that 305's trains look better than Carowinds Intimidator's trains (although I like both), for the simple fact that the combination of straight-across seats and the trains having actual sides, it looks more like a stock car. It would've been cool to see them stick a big #3 on the side, but with the length of the train it would've looked terrible. -

If I hadn't already made plans for Friday, I'd make the drive...I'm getting to KD this year come hell or high water -
I thought some sort of organization was trying to save that gate...must've failed. I can't stand the Yankees or Red Sox, so I'm pretty indifferent on this. Not to mention it technically was only a 30 year old stadium. The aforementioned gate was about the only thing that remained the same post renovation.

It's as iconic as Michael Jordan's #23, Jackie Robinson's #42, etc. It'd be like me saying the widely beloved Matt Leinart wore #73 in college. -

The 8? Dale Earnhardt, Jr. used to have #8, but hasn't since 2007. -

The one decal that raises question marks for me is the NASCAR 50th Anniversary logo, which is near the bottom directly to the right of the Goodyear decal. The only reason I can think of for putting it on was that the 50th anniversary was in 1998, which was the year Dale Earnhardt won his first Daytona 500, and if that's the case, a very nice touch. -

With all due respect I think it's a little unfair to say that NASCAR is cheap and terrible just because you're not a fan. It's right up there with the NBA/MLB/NFL/NHL as far as popularity goes, and Dale Earnhardt is one of the most well liked and respected people in ANY sport (in America at least). Couple that with the fact that Carowinds is in the heart of "racing country" and is located not far from a major race track, you can't blame them for taking the direction that they did, and theming the ride after a multi-billion dollar sport is hardly cheap and terrible, especially when they appear to have done a great job. -

I love it...adds to the realism/theming of the ride. But then again I used to be a NASCAR fan so maybe it's just a current/former NASCAR fan thing. -
Most Overrated coaster?
Josh Linn replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
But aren't rides like Shivering Timbers, Balder, GeForce, etc. acclaimed for their repetitive awesome? I know a lot of the same on a coaster can be a bit tedious in some cases (Colossus' rolls, Goudurix' track, from what I've heard), but I wouldn't think that would be a universal reason to not like a ride. That said, I'm not trying to change your mind or anything. I can understand how people don't appreciate MF as much as others. For me, I guess my most overrated ride was Batman: TR or (gasp) El Toro, both at SFGAdv. Batman obviously had lower expectations that ET, but that thing's forces really exacerbated a headache of mine and subsequently was deemed a disappointment. I'll need to try it again when I'm feeling normal. And as for ET, it's airtime wasn't *quite* as intense as I thought. It was still certainly ejector, and it was still certainly the best I've experienced. And ET is still my favorite coaster. I guess the bar was set just a bit too tall for it. I got a huge headache from El Toro too (presumably the ending section caused it), but it was still an amazing/outstanding ride. I felt like hell after, but the majority of the ride was so good that I couldn't discount it because of a headache. -
The SFA comment is the only one that confuses me. I've never been there, but I don't see how the addition of a Thomas Town makes it one of the best parks in the chain. As is, there's no possible way they could even be near the top of the list...they have to put at least a few big(ger) rides in for that. It's astonishing for me that a park so close to Washington/Baltimore hasn't added any sort of roller coaster, family or major, in 9 years, and it'll be 10 at the soonest if they're planning anything for 2011.

I've always wanted to do the Petty Experience. My dad and both grandfathers drove cars at Pocono Raceway, which is about an hour from here, and they all loved it. They let them go up to about 170 MPH there because of the long straightaways that WDW Speedway doesn't have, and they said it was a rush. Only problem is I don't know how to drive stick shift, which could be a bit of an obstacle.
