http://www.baseballchronology.com/Baseball/Years/1993/Attendance.asp Define "right around", please. And feel free to go back through the 80s too. They hadn't been in the top half in attendance since 1983 If you look at 1995, their attendance dropped considerably less than the other clubs' If there was a strike ruined the best season in your favorite team's history, and then following that your owner instructs your GM to trade or release nearly all of your best players, would you be as much of a fan or as willing to go to games? EDIT: Removed off-topic stuff. Please use PM's---Joey

Well whether or not you think it was weird, they had a very solid fan base.

The only real difference is that Loria actually put effort into getting the Marlins a new stadium. In Montreal, he bought a piece of land downtown when he bought the team, but never used it and eventually the lease expired and someone else bought it. They were right around Major League average attendance except for the last few years there. A nearly year-long strike that decimates your team would turn any place into a non-baseball city.

For me it's near impossible to save money because I have expensive tastes. I'm really OCD about what clothes I wear, and if it doesn't say "Hollister", "Nike", "American Eagle", etc on the shirt or have the company symbol, I won't wear it, so wearing all these brands makes it difficult. Add that to the fact that I'm a 20 year old kid with a part time job and that makes shelling out thousands of dollars to do anything not feasible.

Amazing how they went from (probably) winning a World Series to not even being there 10 years later. A lot of people forget how much talent that team had. Larry Walker, Pedro Martinez, John Wetteland, Marquis Grissom, and Moises Alou were all either in their prime or close to it. Unfortunately, like Vancouver in the NBA, Montreal will probably never have a team again despite having a really good fan base simply because the commissioners of each respective sport didn't really give them a chance (I know the Expos were around for awhile, but post strike they did little if anything to stay there).

Talk about a league ruining/alienating a fan base, Montreal is a perfect example. Selig and Loria did everything they could to screw that city over. The Expos should still be there.

From experience, I do not advise drunk dialing/texting. It only causes extreme awkwardness and is definitely not a good way to score points with someone you're trying to get with.

The "Master Plan" should be referred to as the "Master Pipe Dream". I remember hearing rumors about that standup (which people said would be themed to either Mr. Freeze or the Penguin, I forget which), and then once Batwing came in people started to eat their words. I'm sure they'll expand at some point. Just going off of Google Maps, it looks like they have a crap load of land to build on (if they own it), so it shouldn't be a problem, it's just a matter of if/when they do it.

Holiday World 5/1/10 PTR

Are you serious? You have to be joking. You'd be amazed how much you can ride things when the park is dead At Knoebel's opening day in 2004 I rode Twister 47 times, Phoenix somewhere around 20, and got a few rides in on the Skooters and Flyers. -

That reminds me...if we fall flat on our face against Algeria/Slovenia like we did against the Czech Republic and, to a lesser extent, Ghana in '06, I'm going to go mad. Our attack is going to be a glaring hole if Charlie Davies can't complete his miracle recovery...it's Jozy and a bunch of scrubs after him. It'd force us to put Donovan or Dempsey up top, and IMO they both don't really play their best up there.

lol Don't be a dumbass. The Super Bowl is #1. March Madness is probably right behind the olympics. The only reason the Olympics bring in a ton of money is because they last 17 days. I'd be impressed if the world cup was #3 in the US While there may not be commercials, soccer games are usually "presented by ______" My local beer bar doesn't have tvs... except during the world cup. Can't wait! I was talking about globally.

ESPN bid a great deal of money to get the broadcasting rights to this World Cup and is providing extensive coverage on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, and ABC. It's the most popular tournament in the world, needless to say it's pretty profitable. It's probably the most lucrative sporting event other than the Summer Olympics, and it may even be ahead of that.

There's more to it than the game may end up in a tie. Low Scoring. Low Shots on goal count. Whining and Diving. No Commercial time outs. 90mins of very little happening. How no commercials is a bad thing is beyond me, and the players on the pitch rarely, if ever, stand still for more than a few seconds, so there's always something happening.

Carowinds Discussion Thread

As far as B&M hypers and inconsistency goes, I will say that my two rides on Nitro were really different. My first in 2002 was really good...loaded with air and the helix into the MCBR was really intense, but on my ride in 2008, it was really boring, which really caught me off guard. The helix was the only part of the ride that was as good as it was in '02, but the rest fell really flat. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I've heard this comparison several times...B&M is like the Cadillac/Rolls Royce of roller coasters, whereas Intamin is like Ferrari/Bugatti. If you want a reliable car that doesn't have a jacked up engine with 500 HP and just gets you from Point A to Point B, you get a Cadillac. If you want something to take on the German Autobahn and "push the limits" with, you go with a Ferrari or a Bugatti. Same goes with Intamin and B&M coasters. -
The Orioles aren't worthy of my avatar space anymore , they're freaking garbage.

I'm sure the atmosphere throughout the entire continent will be amazing. I'd love to just watch the games over there, I don't even have to be in attendance. I've talked to people that went to the '06 WC in Germany and they said the whole country was a ridiculously large party for a month.

It's only 43 days away, so why not? For those that need a refresher, here are the groups: GROUP A South Africa Mexico France Uruguay GROUP B Argentina Nigeria South Korea Greece GROUP C England United States Algeria Slovenia GROUP D Germany Australia Serbia Ghana GROUP E Netherlands Denmark Cameroon Japan GROUP F Italy Paraguay New Zealand Slovakia GROUP G Brazil North Korea Ivory Coast Portugal GROUP H Spain Switzerland Honduras Chile The Group of Death is clearly G...Brazil, Ivory Coast, and Portugal all have the talent to win the whole thing, although Portugal has been in really bad form and barely made it into the tournament. The U.S. finally gets a relatively easy draw. Even if they lose to England, their chances of getting out of the group are still high. If an African team makes a deep run to the semis/finals or wins the whole thing, this looks to be the best year, IMO. Algeria and South Africa don't look to have the horses to do it, but Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, and Ivory Coast are all extremely talented teams. I'm rooting for Ivory Coast out of those four to make it happen.

Have you seen what Expedition GeForce looks like? A megalite would look BEAUTIFUL weaving in and out of the trees at Knoebels. Getting a Mega-Lite would be too easy. Who needs a coaster that only needs over-the-offseason construction when you can have a coaster that requires over-the-decade construction?! Real talk though, yeah, that would be amazing, but unfortunately lack of money and space makes it a pipe dream at best.

This. As long as Boucher keeps his form, I think the rest will fall into place. Hopefully I didn't jinx it.
