  1. ^^ Don't mean to burst your bubble, but the vast majority of new models are built in a manner that prevent snapping. Even if they are capable, parks generally frown upon the art of snapping (except Knoebels), stopping and ejecting riders if they see them do so. Even without snapping, flyers are usually one of my favorite flat rides. The one at Kings Dominion gave me one of the most terrifying rides of my life: first time riding flyers, at night, in the wind and rain, area covered in think fog from fog machines (it was Haunt time). My girlfriend at the time (who had plenty of experience with flyers growing up going to Knoebels) was whipping around in front of me like she had no care in the world. I thought she was nuts.
  2. Hey, whatever works, works! I wish more SF parks would do this. I'd totally work a couple weekends at SFGAdv just for the experience again.
  3. ^ That's a really cool concept. I did the "charity" program at SFGAdv several years ago and had a blast doing it. HWFan, any idea if similar programs are at other SF parks? I couldn't find anything through a quick internet search.
  4. ^ Totally get Skull Mountain. I remember last year during Fright Fest I waited in a full queue (to the entrance) and it only took twenty minutes until I was on the ride. Since the restraints are one long bar, two people are able to take separate halves of the train, further speeding up the process. Skull Mountain is a bona fide people eater.
  5. Ryan, do you know if there are any times when the park will actually put four ops on train duty, or are rides that normally have two pretty much stuck with two regardless? I'd think that Superman (and to a lesser extent Nitro) would really benefit from this the most on busy days. I'd say Bizarro, too, but I don't think that pulls enough of a draw anymore to justify that.
  6. I'm glad flyers have been making a comeback at Cedar Fair / Six Flags parks in recent years.
  7. I've been wondering the same thing, too. To me it seems like a way to cut down on maintenance costs.
  8. I'm glad Amusement Today is taking steps to diversify the voting pool for the GTAs, but it's going to be a long time before I place any validity in it.
  9. I might go. I was initially planning on making a trip up to Knoebels (first time), but the forecasts are scaring me off.
  10. New ones. I find them more comfortable.
  11. I'm super excited for this addition. Great way to round out the coaster lineup! I was initially a little surprised at the 8-across seating as well, but it makes sense considering the presence of the new vest restraints (which is a MAJOR plus). Since these seats are a bit wider, It seems the 8-across is to account for the extra space they'll take without needing to manufacture an even larger track design to accommodate 10-across new-style seats.
  12. ^ I think they would've announced it as well, so not this year. However, I'd say it's very probable within the next couple of years.
  13. So now we've moved onto complaining about the announcements as a whole? I think it's actually a great year for announcements. - SFDK gets RMC - SFGAdv gets Free Spin - SFMM rehabs Revolution - SFOT gets flat ride package - SFFT gets flat ride package - SFGAM and SFM get JL:BFM - SFOG revamps two areas with several new rides I was pleasantly surprised by several of them, including the ride refurbishments and flat packages at several parks. Much more surprised than 2014 or 2015.
  14. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty pumped about the new additions to the 2016 dining plan:
  15. I've been meaning to visit my sister out in San Francisco. Looks like I have another reason in the "visit column!
  16. The Safari Discoveries arena covers this now, though. I literally on Sunday just watched the sea lion show that would've in the past taken place at the Aqua Stadium. Plus, it's shaded, has more comfortable seats, and allows you the opportunity to walk directly up and see them up close, something the Stadium couldn't do. I get that it's an original park structure, but it doesn't serve a purpose anymore. There's a reason why the left side of the Lakefront has been dead for years now. Out with the old, in with the new.
  17. On the contrary, this thread / site is what helps restore my faith in some aspects of the coaster / theme park community. When I visit some of GAdv's other fansites and Facebook groups, it's usually full of these completely asinine, self-entitled, uninformed comments and arguments. I'm thrilled that there's at least ONE place out there that will call these people on their BS and aim for quality. I personally don't understand why webmasters of some of these other sites, many of whom I know don't agree with these comments, continue to let them poison their forums / news feeds. Besides, it's not about contrary opinions. It's about opinions unsupported by rational arguments or facts. For example: - It's perfectly okay to prefer B&M on this site over Intiman. - It's perfectly okay to prefer floater airtime over ejector airtime on this site. - It's perfectly okay to prefer Universal over Disney on this site. - It's perfectly okay to prefer credit whoring instead of riding more selectively. BUT SUPPORT THESE OPINIONS WITH RATIONAL ARGUMENTS THAT ARE SUPPORTED BY FACTS. Coasterbill displayed it earlier perfectly with his "capacity" example.
  18. All around a solid gain for SFNE. Super Loops are a lot of fun, and it'll be a great addition to the park's lineup ("coaster" or not). Great to see the Superman reconversion, but I'm going to reserve full judgment until I see what they do with the trains. I honestly don't care if they keep the audio, but I'd like to see something done with the restraints, too. Otherwise it won't be as meaningful for me. I've got a question. Anytime season passes are advertised at other parks, perks are listed in the following way: Why is SFNE always listed separately?
  19. In other Lakefront-related news, Harry over at GAHistory provided some more detail on landscaping in the area.
  20. Several of the announcements were very exciting, but I think this takes the cake for me. Glad to see Revolution getting some love!!
