Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
michaellynn4 replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Aw man, I didn't realize you would've been down. I was in Wildwood Saturday/Sunday morning and went to Morey's Piers for the first time. I only had two hours, so it was a race to get all six of the credits. We had enough time to grab a ride on Kong to close the night out. A fun night, wish I had more time to spend there but I was with others who wanted to do some shopping / dining in Cape May beforehand. Overall I really enjoyed it! I'm such a sucker for a great boardwalk, and Morey's blows all of the other NJ ones out of the water for me. Two main notes: - Great White was the major surprise of the trip. I was expecting a mediocre ride but was really caught offguard with some of the airtime and laterals. Significantly better than I had anticipated! - The new restraints on the Great Nor'easter really help almost make an SLC enjoyable. Almost. I still left with some back pains from the rattling. -
Your longest coaster road trip

July 2013: Home -> Hersheypark -> Kennywood -> Kings Island -> Holiday World -> Six Flags St Louis -> Six Flags Great America -> Cedar Point -> Dorney Park (impromptu 2hr stop on way home) -> Home. Factor in stopping in Cleveland (Melt Bar and Grilled - yum!) and some side-street driving for food and whatnot and that trip clocked in at (conservatively) 2,300 miles. -
For me, I'm in a situation where this will be very appealing. A couple years ago, when I lived by the park, I used to only go during the week when no one was there. Moving 45 minutes away and working in South Jersey, weekend trips became more common, but I still visited enough during the week to make Flash Pass on weekends not worth it. Now that I work in Delaware, I have an hour commute home which, coupled with the 45 minute drive from home to the park, pretty much eliminates a weekday option (unless I take a day off). This season-long Flash Pass would help ensure that I can have a better experience on a consistent basis now that I'm pretty much stuck visiting weekends. This all depends on how much it costs, mind you. The same "it pays for itself in ## visits!" rule applies. $150 sounds great - I'd absolutely be there more than three days or so to use it. As the number increases, though, it'll become less appealing.

Mini Mini East Coast Trip
michaellynn4 replied to i<3coasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I arrive in Philly at 6:30am on 7/19 and was going to head north from there. PHI to SFNE is four hours without traffic or stopping. There's no way you're getting to SFNE before noon. You've then got an hour drive back to Lake Compounce, which closes at 9PM that day, giving you AT MOST total eight hours between two parks. You've then got a 3.5 hour drive over to Dorney Park. I would HIGHLY recommend cutting SFNE and LC from your plan and spend the full day at Hersheypark. It's two hours from the airport, allowing you to take your time getting there. Once the park closes, it's only 1.25 hours (up I-78) to Dorney. You'll be better rested for Dorney / Knoebels, plus you get to experience a great park with first-class rides without feeling rushed the whole time. Heck, you should have time to pop into Chocolate World and make your own candy bar! -
Mini Mini East Coast Trip

I agree. Hershey is such a cool park, it'd be a shame to try and squeeze it in such a short time. Plus, your new driving schedule is adding on unnecessary hours / miles. Stick with your original plan: This is your best bet. Dorney will be dead on a Monday, so if you go there first, you'd have done everything by 1-2pm. Spend the rest of the day at Knoebels, then drive down during the night to SFGAdv. EDIT: I overlooked that you're flying in and out of Philly. Do you have an arrival date / time yet? That would help determine if it's actually worthwhile to make the hike up to CT and MA for SFNE and Lake Compounce. I'd almost say that you should skip that trek and spend the full day of 7/19 at Hersheypark instead, like rubysparkles. Depends on how dead set you are visiting those two parks. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

It's a joke. It was pretty damn hard to tell... KD may do something for Shockwave's last day, but I would be surprised if it's anything more than that. Rebel Yell would be the ride that would most warrant a prolonged celebratory goodbye at the park, IMO. -

I'm a tall(ish) guy with broad shoulders and a big overall build. Being in Shockwave's restraints, to me, felt like I was trapped inside an iron maiden. #dieshockwavedie -

I'm pretty much a bleeding-heart liberal and try to promote inclusiveness and sensitivity, but even I refuse to pander to this country's "butter-churning" demographic. -

GA has a few better coasters, but Hershey is more well rounded. -
You're correct about GL. Don't waste your time if you don't care about credits. Congo Rapids is okay, but it shows its age with a tame ride and lack of effects (though some of the old signage is funny - I rode it for the first time in over ten years a few weeks ago and noticed a sign saying "No food, drinks, or smokes allowed on ride."). Log Flume is one of the classic rides of the park, and one of the longest log flumes out there. If you love water rides and log flumes, definitely give it a go. However, be prepared to wait FOREVER for it. It always has a long line on summer weekends. Yet another reason to get Flash Pass.
