  1. In other news, the construction fences have gone up, surrounding Aqua Stadium. No matter what's coming in its place, it'll certainly be a much different view without the stadium sitting at the end of the entrance path. A little sad, but it's certainly past its prime now. Bring on the new!!
  2. Did you try the ol' "Dial 0 for the operator" trick? Also, what part of the checkout process didn't work? I simulated it here at work and got all the way to the point where I'd put in my credit card number. Could it be just your browser?
  3. ^ Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. You know what I'd like? The power to expel one person from the park. You know when you see that one a-hole cutting the whole line or someone is just genuinely being obnoxious in some way? Wouldn't it be great if you could just wave down a security guard, tell them you'd like to cash in your free expulsion, then point to the offending party and gleefully watch them get dragged out of the park? That's realistic, right? Meh, oh well. One can dream...
  4. I don't know if I could resist just screaming in his face:
  5. I spent the summers of 2001 and 2002 as a vendor inside SFGAdv within the old McDonald's stand. First summer I was a crew person, second I was a shift manager. The restaurant was operated by the same franchisee as the store outside the park, which is where I spent the vast majority of my McDonald's career. Even though I technically still received my paycheck from him, I was essentially a Six Flags employee in every other way during those summers. I always wanted to work for a theme park, but growing up my mother insisted I find found year-round work. I feel very fortunate I got to spend at least some time inside SFGAdv as an employee. Hands down one of the best times of my life - great stories, great people, great memories. Technically, I also did volunteer work inside the park for one day, back when they allowed non-profits and groups to come in as workers-for-a-day and make some money for their specific affiliate (in my case, my college theater group). I worked in the old Great Hamburger Stand (before it became Johnny Rockets) and operated the Top Glo game next to Nathans. THAT was a lot of fun!
  6. It's an interesting discussion considering some of the perks other parks will use, like free parking, are already free at Holiday World (a good problem to have!). Some things I'd think would work are: - Early entry (select days if necessary) - ERT on certain attractions on particular days out of the year - Discount / coupon book containing: - Bring-A-Friend Entry discounts - Food / Merch discounts - Locker rental discounts Just some initial thoughts based on perks from other chains.
  7. It was trademarked in Texas because that's where Six Flags's headquarters is located.
  8. Reading through the spelling and grammar mistakes... There aren't any restrictions on pulling down your restraint. They'll push it down to make sure it's secure and not too loose, though.
  9. Renting out a park is incredibly normal. SFGAdv has a couple days out of the year blocked off, usually in May and June. We'd always encounter the guests that didn't check before they left when I was working at the McDonald's outside of the park. We were always empathetic with the people who realized their mistake of not checking (especially ones who drove down from NY), but the ones who acted incredulous were another story.
  10. ^ This is a great guide for Philly, says a lot of what I'd probably say. The only thing that I'd add is that I personally really don't like Tony Luke's - I think the quality has dropped since he started focusing on opening up satellite store after satellite store. Personally, my go to place is Jim's Steaks on South Street, just a block away from the TLA. Boldikus is dead on about Pat's/Geno's, though, stay away unless you enjoy tourist traps (though with a gun to my head I'd choose Pat's - I personally can't stand Geno's politics). There are PLENTY of places in the city to get a good cheesesteak. Make sure to wash them down with a pretzel chaser and Tastykakes for dessert. Larry's right tho - eat as many from as many different places as possible. Just realized - if you're planning on driving around the city, be prepared to pay a TON for parking. I'd say it's in your best interest to park at a centralized "home base" area and use the subway / your feet to get around.
  11. Yea, that chairlift wasn't operating when i went either. I don't think its part of the park. I happened to take a different route than boldikus - I parked in the far lot for free. Yeah it's a bit more of a hike, but I didn't mind the walk in because they got there first thing in the morning, it didn't really matter much. It all depends on how you'd prefer allocating that seven dollars on your trip.
  12. I'm an admitted SFGAdv fanboy, but I really think that Hersheypark has become my favorite park, too. I'd even say that although SFGAdv may have a couple better coasters, Hershey has a much more well-rounded lineup.
  13. Funny video, but don't break up the nerd fight. It's entertaining. Nothing like a good nerd fight to make you feel better about your life choices.
  14. I took off from work yesterday and spent a full day at the park with a few people. Got my first ride on El Diablo (on my third try - the first two times, I was on board and restrained but had to evacuate due to technical issues). What a fun ride! I've thought this would be a great addition to the park, bringing back an experience we lost once Space Shuttle was removed. Now I can definitely say so for sure. The hang time on some of the rotations was incredible. A great "middle" flat ride that should attract both families and thrill seekers like SkyScreamer.
  15. I've never seen this much excitement over an SLC...
  16. If July 4th falls during the week, there's the potential for it to be less than crowded, especially if weather doesn't cooperate. However, if the holiday actually falls over the weekend, expect it to be slammed. I used to be a manager at that McDonald's outside the park (2000-2010), and July 4th weekend was always one of the busiest of the season.
  17. Completely agree. I never get the arguments people have against purchasing FL/FP (unless a park is ABSOLUTELY dead). All it takes is proper budgeting.
  18. Exactly. I got FL+ for my Cedar Point visit (day after SFGAm) - made a world of a difference. I would've never ridden as much as I did that day had I not splurged. Totally fine with someone not choosing FL/FL+/Flash Pass, though. One more person in front of which I can skip!
  19. Very much a matter of opinion. Personally, I can't imagine it ever being worth it. I visited the park in 2013. It was crowded as hell and I need 1.5 days to get on each coaster. I think I only got rerides on a couple coasters. I sincerely regret not getting a Flash Pass. Unless the park is absolutely dead or you're visiting every single week, Flash Pass is worth it.
  20. No need to apologize. Pretty much everyone who've been on both, including those with Kingda Ka practically in their backyard (see: me), prefer TTD over it. Glad you had a great time!! Y'all come back now, ya hear?
  21. Having both an Invert & Wing coaster, a flyer would be a bit repetitive. SFGAm has a Flyer, a Wing, and an Invert.
  22. Haha, +1 Lost reference. WE NEVER SHOULDA LEFT!!!!! t's been two years since I've been there, and I'm itching, too. A couple of my colleagues are moving out to our office in Columbus, OH, and we got to talking about Kings Island and Cedar Point. There might be an opportunity for me to do some consulting work out in Ohio down the road, and if I do, I'll definitely be back here several times (I'd be out there for about a year).
  23. What a fun park! I really enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks for sharing!
