  1. Lines for food service were definitely long and slow when I went. I chalked it up to first-day jitters (new employees, understaffing due to wrong estimates, etc). Hopefully it gets better as the event goes on, because it was the only drawback to an otherwise awesome trip.
  2. I really like that we're learning more about this coaster as it gets built rather than have everything spoiled up front by images from a press release or a rendering, especially since this thing is turning out to be much different than a "typical" B&M flyer.
  3. Going on a slide made of 60 grit sandpaper while shirtless is better than Hurler though. Don't ask me how I know... I'd hate to see those scars...
  4. Why don't you ask all of the other people behind you in line, as well? You getting out of line and re-entering at the same spot affects all of them just as much. I don't have kids yet, but I've attended parks with my 8-year-old cousin. A couple years ago, we waited in line for a ride and, after already asking her if she needed to use the bathroom before we got in line, decided in the middle of the line that she did in fact need to go. After we left and let her use it, we got back in line at the end. She didn't understand why we couldn't go back to where we were and I explained the rules to her and told her next time, if she doesn't want to wait twice, she needs to go before we get in line like we asked. I haven't had that issue with her since. Rules are there for a reason. Am I going to get argumentative or confrontational with someone who acts in the manner you described? No, especially if their nice and courteous about it. Given my druthers, if I HAD to choose, I'd much rather have that than a bunch rowdy, inconsiderate teenagers. However, I'd never do that myself because, as Robb said, it IS a teaching opportunity, and one for a very simple rule at that - "cutting in line is not allowed".
  5. Jews will be forced to build pyramids in the sand traps.
  6. Seriously, hold off until you get to the park. The longest line last Saturday was less than 20 minutes, and most of the time coasters were walk-ons / station waits. Unless you really want to maximize your ride time and squeeze out maybe one or two more rides than you normally would, I've a sneaking suspicion that you won't need Flash Pass.
  7. You know it's the off season when...
  8. I have a potential idea on how you can get the most out of IAAPA as an engineering student, the Show Ambassador Program. I have participated this program for three years now, and each year has been full of professional career development training in the attractions industry. Your job for the week is to work the show through assisting education sessions, tours, special events, and other areas to operate the convention. While working you are put into very close contact with other industry professionals and you can get the chance to network. I have seen three engineers come away with jobs and internships for some companies such as GCI and Premier Rides due to connections made at IAAPA. Please feel free to reach out to me in a private message if you want to learn more about the program. If networking is what you're interested in, which is what I think (and hope) you want, is the best advice I think you can get. If geeking out is your goal, Zach's right.
  9. Acceptable topics include: 1. When will we get a hyper coaster. 2. Iron Boss?!?!?! 3. Iron Eagle (which is one of the edgier topics) 4. Coaster Capital of Missouri? What a weird slogan amirite 5. (Insert ride) reverse blast lolz 6. Anybody else HATE the ninja? 7. *pumps up ego* "What this park ACTUALLY needs..." 8. Anything related to the "red-headed stepchild of Six Flags" argument.
  10. There are fences on each side of the path, but they're no more than six feet tall, so you can see everything above. Here's a photo: You can see the Autobahn to the left in this picture.
  11. Here now. Just starting to get dark, so the full effect is starting to become visible. Gotta say I'm pretty blown away. There are many details placed throughout the park that I love seeing. Nutcrackers on stilts, fire pits for roasting marshmallows, etc. I haven't heard jersey boys Christmas yet though. Music is great - all the Christmas classics and some original music around the beautiful tree on Main Street. I'm sure the music is what they've used at other HitP events, but I still think it's well done More to come later!
  12. It's a shame that you ran into so much difficulty making it a functioning model, but this really does look spectacular. Great level of detail, and I like that you incorporated the S&S tower as well - helps create a vibrant environment. Can't wait to see the finishing touches!
  13. That's a shame - it's the best coaster in the park IMO (and many others). Just another excuse for a return visit!
  14. These preview photos look amazing! I'll be going Saturday to check it out in person!
  15. Count me in as someone wishing for an updated LED lighting system, too. The bulbs just don't cut it anymore, even if you do go through and replace each one. Visits to Cedar Point and Morey's Piers have schooled and spoiled me.
  16. I had really high expectations for this ride and it absolutely exceeded all of them. I want to get back to KW mostly just to marathon PR. I wouldn't say its underrated though, seems a lot of people rank it really highly. That double down near the end... *drool*
  17. To be honest, I hope they're already long gone.
  18. I went to the park yesterday while Rikki and her friends from work went to the Grape Adventure festival (their review: "eh"). Was there from 12-7. Temperatures were pretty comfortable most of the day, then getting a little nippy after dark. Some notes: - Decorations are starting to come together. They're currently stringing garland around each of the poles on Yum Yum and the Carousel. Trees are sprouting up throughout the park, and the big tree in the center is starting to come together. - Nitro, S:UF, GL, and Dark Knight were all essentially walk-ons. El Toro and Batman had only one train each going, so there was some line there, but overall the wait wasn't terrible. <15 minutes each. - Operations were pretty good. Minimal stacking on each coaster. Can't wait to see this place lit up in a couple weeks!!!
  19. I agree. The "flying" sensation should be a lot more than just feeling like I'm attached to a hang glider gently floating through the breeze. I WANT to be disoriented.
  20. Man, those really came out great! I'm sure he's going to love it!
  21. I've ridden it in the front, but it doesn't just have the same whip that riding in the back does. Love that whip!
