  1. Do you know who the manufacturer is? If we go off of pictures, it looks like Intamin, but we'll see soon enough I imagine. RCDB says it is Intamin. Aren't all the TTD and KK problems related to the launch system? I'm sure formaula rossa also has some downtime. That would mean a traditional lift hill coaster could work but, like you said, a full layout would cost a fortune and nobody would build a coaster consisting of a lift, drop and brakes (I guess..) Anyway, since the last strata was built 9 years ago we don't know how a new one would work out. We're still not sure if the one coming to Portaventura will be a really tall giga or barely a strata. They only said it will be taller than 100m (328 feet) but, at the same time the mentioned it will hit nearly 200km/h (124mph) and it really is "nearly" it will have to be a strata. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will do in terms of reliability.
  2. That was my first thought too. That Immelmann is huge!
  3. ^It's an awesome park. One the biggest surprises I've had: great rides, nice atmosphere and it looks really good. Great report! Storm runner is my favourite ride at the park (with skyrush coming close) and overall my second favourite coaster. I was also taken by surprise when I got that pop of air before the rolls and, while it may be short, I love every bit of it, including that odd twisty section before the brakes.
  4. I wouldn't say so. I imagine that if even the boomerang isn't, the SLC probably is a knock-off as they already have some "experience" with those.
  5. ^Isn't it there anymore? I thought on my 2013 visit it was still in place, but I'm not entirely sure.
  6. ^I know, right? I mean, when they were rough and uncomfortable they were all over the place and then when they started providing a better ride experience they vanished.
  7. Why not? True. The person below me is listening to some song while posting.
  8. It obviously depends on the coaster. There are rides, like kingda ka, which are obviously front seat rides. As to the others, well.... The front and the back have the most extreme forces with the back having the advantage of the first drop, drop of MCBRs,... and the front taking it for climbs into MCBRs, corkscrews (on B&M inverts, for instance, I prefer the feeling of being catapulted into the twist rather entering it at a moderate speed and being pulled out quickly),... If given the chance to choose I'll never take the middle (except maybe once to give it a try) so I'll go for the back or front. I generally prefer the front as (apart from first drops) the forces are similar and you get the view and also get to see all those nerdy things like track, chain, brakes, tires,.... However, as very often the front as long lines I probably end up riding the back a little more often (with the exception of rougher coasters where I tend to sit as far away from the back as possible).
  9. I was surprised that almost no European park went with the standup thing. I mean, isn't there only 1 or am I missing something?
  10. I'm also looking forward to it but my guess is it'll be a lot morel like patriot than BTR. I know the ride is pretty rough but intamin managed to have an intense and forceful ride with much less sophisticated winged trains, so I would imagine B&M is also capable of that. (I guess...)
  11. Great pictures! (and captions) I was so angry when I went to great adv last year and el toro was closed! Well, I guess I'll have to go there again. I'm definitely not a fan of that yellow loop. Maybe the idea didn't seem bad but I would rather have the whole track green.
  12. I have no idea if this is true or if it was just a myth but I'm sure I remember seeing something here about an old plan for a B&M inverted coaster. Was this actually real at some point?
  13. ^If it is I'll be interested in knowing how they will do the "transition" to that area.
  14. The new ones (except Banshee) are really "forceless" while the old ones are really intense and forceful. By forceful do you mean G-forces? If yes I agree that B & M's have more "airtime" than positive G's. And it's not just about the positive Gs. You can have a ride with huge Gs and still be not very interesting (for instance, if you have a really long forceful helix it may get a little boring). It was about a combination of those Gs with fast/snappy elements, quick transitions and overall an intense ride. Quick changes in G forces also make it feel more intense. With some coasters it is easy to tell (compare Patriot's zero g roll (1:10) to batman's (0:47) and you can also see just how fast the two corkscrews on batman are) while others it's harder to see from POVs and you have to ride them to know.
  15. I have never ridden it but I like how it looks different from most B&M looping coasters. From the trains, to those high speed turns and fast corkscrew. Oh, and the drop looks like it provides some great air in the back.
  16. I know it's not the best coaster around but: This one was actually taken by Invertalon It sure looks stunning!
  17. ^Haha. True. Is it known what they are exactly doing for next year (the park's 20th anniversary)?
  18. ^Yeah you can tell it isn't. But that's still awesome!
  19. I can't really classify this as a great operation (you'll already see why) but I wanted to mention this. When I went to parque de atracciones de Madrid last September they were only running one side of the intamin drop tower (that's why I can't call it good) but the one guy who was operating it (at least I didn't see anyone else) was doing an amazing job loading and unloading riders super fast. He would start unbuckling the seat belts before the car actually came to a stop on the ground and this resulted in a surprisingly fast line given that each car only carries four riders.
  20. Yes the first drop is good. And really the whole first half (I mean, until the dive loop) is not bad but the crappy ending doesn't help giving people a good impression of the ride.
  21. OMG! How could he take that much spinning for that long?! And yes, I can see why some people don't get it going. You either have to know something about aerodynamics or, I don't know, just get the hang of it naturally.
  22. Wow that's awesome!
  23. Poor boomerang . I can only imagine the pain it went through....
