Underrated Coasters?
Coaster Curt replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Ha, now that is funny. -
Just another gem from the GP about Gatekeeper and that it will be down more than up.......you know like TTD. NOT ME, the lines will be Rediculous and there is SO much more to do there than wait in line for a ride that will be down more than up (Like Top Thrill Dragster) while the bugs get worked out of it... Here is another one......I want to know which secret facility is out there that the entire ride gets set up and tested just to be taken down and shipped. the manufacturer of the coaster designs it, builds it, assembles it and tests it at their own site. Then it's disassembled, packed and shipped to the park where (of course) it's reassembled. There will be tweaking required because of differences in the ground prep, misalignment during assembly, etc, but the core testing is done. They know that the design is sound, safe - and fun.

Underrated Coasters?
Coaster Curt replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Fixed. And no, I'm not joking. If you score a front or back car ride, this is probably the most fun coaster at Valleyfair. (I know that Renegade and Steel Venom are better rides, but there's a nice sense of joy when you ride this one.) I love this thing, no pun intended. And about Renegade having trims, I rode it last summer and there were none when both trains were running. Unless they added them since last July, it doesn't have any. I am not saying Wild Thing isn't a fun ride but in am mind it could be a bit better, the hills on the return could be even more airtime if they wouldn't trim it so much. I am not talking about alot here, just cut the trims down a bit and the return hills would be really fun. -

Does Renegade have trims now? I don't remember any back in 2008. I always assumed there were trims on Renegade and they were never used, I never even thought if they even had them or not. I will have to check it out on opening weekend and see, or maybe just ask someone that might know. -
2012-- What was your highlight?
Coaster Curt replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Now that 2012 is done and we are into 2013 I was reading this thread and looking back. Highlight of last year was the first trip to Cedar Point, Fast Lane and riding Maverick 20 times in a day. I think we got in 75 coaster/flat rides in that day, was a fun time in the park. Had so much fun we are planning a Kings Island/Cedar Point trip again this year. -

You are seriously joking about Wild Thing being underrated? It has two fantastic airtime hills and other than that a very lack luster boring ride. -

I am really surprised that Renegade at VF isn't regarded as a better coaster. It is a fun ride, great speed (it typically only runs one train so the trims are never on). It doesn't have great airtime which if it did have more airtime would rank this coaster much higher than it normally is ranked. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Rock Bottom Drop at MOA, up here in the frozen north you need to take advantage of those indoor coasters. -

How well do you handle hangtime?
Coaster Curt replied to Vid_w's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Funny that no one mentioned Steel Venom at Valleyfair, after the second run through the station you hang at the top of the tower for a couple seconds (front seat) staring at the ground knowing if those restraints let go you would be done. Almost the same coaster at CP is Wicked Twister yet it doesn't hold you at the top after going through the station the second time. -
If you actually like Wild Thing, then you will love the other Morgans. I pretty much adore all of them except Wild Thing. Well I am not really a huge fan of the rest of the ride, fairly boring to say the least. The only really fun aspects of the ride are the 2nd and 3rd hills. I will have to look into the other Morgans and see if I can get a ride sometime. Maverick is my favorite ride at CP and the airtime in it is fantastic, only problem is that the float is over too fast
-
Wild Thing at Valleyfair, hands down the 2nd and 3rd hills are huge floater air. It is typical to float over the top of the 2nd hill and not land back in your seat till you get to the bottom of that hill, same goes for the 3rd hill. Made by Morgan so not sure how many other Morgans are out there so maybe most people haven't ridden a Morgan.

The park got slammed with a very windy snowstorm the end of last week, which means the cranes can't lift any of the steel. I figured there was something. Thanks for letting me know. Although I must say the park should have said something, like on Facebook: "Sorry followers of Gatekeeper but the Key-hole doesn't go up today, there is too much wind." There are lot of people who don't know this and follow the park. Why would the park have a need to tell people anything? I would hope common sense would tell people that something was up and the keyholes didn't go in Friday. Or it was just construction in general and they got behind. I just want Gatekeeper open the first week, planning another trip this year and this is one of the main reasons. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Not too concerned with the food or beverage options in the park, if some new things come in it is fine. Valleyfair I think needs a great coaster at the end of a nice new midway, now that would make a great addition to the park. Maybe a El Toro clone at the end of that midway..........but really that is beyond a pipe dream. -

True the ride does nothing for me but they are huge people eaters, plus it is a great view up top. Despite each cycle taking a large number of passengers (64), my understanding is the average cycle time (unload, load & ride cycle) is about 6 minutes. So your actual throughput on WindSeeker is only around 640 people per hour. I'm surprised it's still down as I was told a large contributing factor to the Knott's issue was human/operator error. I wonder if more issues have been found since hearing this back around Haunt. I was thinking more that it seems like a fairly high number of rides per hour for a flat ride, then realized I have no idea how many people are able to ride most flat rides in an hour. What does MaXair do in an hour? -
