Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It wouldnt' surprise me if Hershey does use a single-riders line for this coaster. The pics of the changes to Comet Hollow show a bit more open space for something like that, and it could be a way of boosting capacity to the coaster once it opens up to the public. I don't see loading being any worse than a B&M myself- four across is still four across, and while the middle seats are over a track, in the long run, I don't think anybody will care too much- just as people don't really care much over a B&M floorless for the exact same reasons. 289 Days... and falling FAST! -

Golfland is OK- but not the biggest- you sometimes feel like you're tripping over other people due to the slides being close together- but not a bad selection there (I'm in the NW valley, so for me Mesa is an hour or more by car- if the 101 and traffic allow... I've yet to do Big Surf, so I can't comment on that- but for overall 'feel' I'll take Wet and Wild- as it's really a decent waterpark- just reeeeeaaaaly crowded. -

YES. Expect it to be something beyond insane, and that's to be polite. For the most part, WWP is a great park, and a good time- but expect to wait for upwards of an hour for some attractions, although they are good at keeping things moving- it's just that popular. Most of the 'midway'' areas are covered with canopies, which helps with some of the sun, but entry queues and pathways are often exposed- use your best judgement over that. Food in the park is sparse, with not a lot of options; I reccommend heading north away from the park to find food- there are plenty of fast food (and not-so-fast food) options just north of there. RENT A TUBE EARLY! They are notorious for selling out tube rentals due to the crowds! -

[RCT II] Golden Farms
QueerRudie replied to QueerRudie's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Phase two: The Solar Flare continues to grow in popularity, thanks to it's thrilling layout and family-oriented design. As the park continues to gain attendance, further improvements are necessary to keep the people happy, and to allow for further attendance jumps in the future. As part of this, the completion of the loop of the park was the most critical element. Linking the original midways together has allowed for seven new attractions to be added to the existing park collection, as well as preparation for the phase III attraction builds. Let's take a look into the park's recent expansion plans: SCR38.BMP The addition of the central space here will allow for further additions of tracked rides, but don't get excited: Coasters don't go in the middle! SCR39.BMP An overview of the seven new attractions: The seven new attractions actually resulted in an 'oh DUH' moment from me- for one reason. Two of the same attractions are now side by side- this will be changed; it's going to be part of the phase III expansion of the park. The new attractions, clockwise from the top: Go Kart Challenge, Crashendo (Bumper Cars), Espressso a Go-GO (Spinning Coffee Cups), Silly Slide (Carpet Slide for the kids), Dondraft (Huss Topspin I), Bus Driver School (Swinging Platform ride; to be removed/relocated) and the Regurgitator (Chance Chaos). Additional space has been allowed for additional attractions, as well as planned additions to the Golden Farms Tour Train. SCR40.BMP Landscaping begins to appear, and opening day is getting closer. SCR41.BMP Silly Slide, Espresso-a-GO GO and Downdraft, with their respective queues. SCR42.BMP Go Kart challenge from the rear... SCR43.BMP And from the front. GKC is one of my better attempts to date for a go-cart ride- with a 6.17 rating. Now for a few overview shots... SCR44.BMP Four midways now overlay the park, and with a bright future now ensured, you can find that we have plenty of space to grow into. SCR45.BMP Wait... what's that in the corner? Could it be... Nah. A park like this would NEVER invest in one of those... Further updates to come... R.D. -
Greetings from Golden farms- I decided to take a break from the RLP chain to start work on a new park- one based partially by my imagination as well as a place I used to live many years ago. Enter Golden Farms! The basis of this park is to expand my skills with how i Do scenery, to adapt a park to fit my needs, wants and interests, and to see how I work out new rides. In general, this is not a high-thrill park- not yet at least- so you won't (For now!) see a inversion heavy B&M or a Gigalite from Intamin. Let's start out with the pre-construction phases (Some of these pics were in the Preivew thread- but I'm consolodating them here. SCR23.BMP The entry plaza area- with restrooms, Guest Services, Various Rental shacks and park offices. SCR24.BMP The Farm section is started- I wasn't quite sure how much to grow... SCR25.BMP So I kept adding things to it! Once preconstruction was done, we moved into phase one of the park. Seeing this as a family park meant that for the most part, rides and attractions in phase one would be based around less-intensity, and more for the families. Smaller rides were the key to begin with, and although they didn't prove profit-makers, they did bring the people into the gates. SCR26.BMP The first three rides; Schwarzkopf Enterprise, Eli Bridge co. Scrambler and Circus are added- a good balanced mix. SCR27.BMP The Farm area is fenced in, and a 'Farm Tour Train' is added- a great ride for rainy days. SCR28.BMP A Zierer Jr. Coaster, Lucy The Ladybug, fills in the space well here. With the park now making more consistent money, I decided to take a page from Qasssy park's Wooden Warrior coaster, and build a junior woodie. After sixteen attempts, I revised the design, and ended up with something more akin to the Sky Princess at Dutch Wonderland. The new coaster, The Merry Derry Dip (Three points if one can guess where that name originated from!) resulted- and with it's two trains, nearly 1800 people per hour can enjoy this mid-sized coaster. SCR29.BMP The Merry Derry Dip begins- this is the only part of the coaster that remained from the previous 'attempts' to build a ride! SCR30.BMP The Merry Derry Dip after completion- and now opened for people to enjoy. A year was taken off from further expansion, and with crowds beginning to mount, it was time to expand the first midway area out to handle more people, and add further attractions to the mix. During that year, debts were repaid, and attractions received queue line coverings, additional scenery elements, and other fine-tuning of the rides themselves. This allowed for more guest comfort, as well as some much needed 'downtime' from expansion. The first phase of the construction would feature four new rides: The Golden Farm SkyTower, the Higher Flyer (Swinging platform ride), The relocated Circus (A carousel was built on it's old plot) as well as the Country Drive vintage cars ride. These attractions proved QUITE popular, with even the Vintage Car ride attaining a full queue! SCR31.BMP An overview of the expansion: SkyTower and Higher Flyer towards the foreground, Country Drive behind the SkyTower, and the relocated Circus towards the original midway area. SCR32.BMP A look at the Country Drive attraction: An artificial lake as well as covered bridge, drive through tunnel, and various scenic buildings fill in the space around the ride. SCR33.BMP The Relocated Circus, with a different style of gardening that I've used before- I really did want this area to have some more color- and I'm not sure this will even stay as it appears. As many people know, I'm a heavy-duty Schwarzkopf enthusiast- and for the park's first full-sized coaster, I went after a combination of classic Schwarzkopfian design. The result was Solar Flare, a design based upon the Revolution at SFMM, as well as the Mindbender at SFOG. I'm quite pleased with the results, as this particular coaster is not only impressive, but has some great capacity. Four seven car trains really do pull the people through the lines quickly, and as the park becomes more popular, it will be a saving grace for capacity rides. SCR34.BMP Solar Flare, after delivery, but before platform elements as well as landscaping have been added. SCR37.BMP Hmmmm... Now THAT is some capacity there! SCR35.BMP After Solar Flare is landscaped- The platform building is finished, trees (More fruit trees- to keep with the basics of the park) as well as queue coverings are completed. SCR36.BMP An overview of the park as the first two midways are finished- the next phase will build a loop-circuit of two more Midways- as well as preparations for further expansion of the park. As the park continues, the next step in expansion is the creation of two additional midway areas, more flat attractions, and in the idea pile is a Log Flume. I'm still not certain where these will fit into the next phase- but I'm pretty sure that we'll be using the space and terrain well- there is a LOT of land in this park, and there is some great terrain areas that are yet to be developed! If you have any ideas for scenery- and have pictures of them, let me know. I won't say I'll use them all- but I'm trying to make some basic changes to the scenery design in this park. Rest assured, it will not become totally focused on the scenery, but rather, I'm using this park as an experimental proving ground for ideas. R.D.

The "Preview" Thread
QueerRudie replied to DBru's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I was thinking that about the paths- but the only other option was the brown tarmac (I tend not to use the 'dirt paths' in my games- it looks too 'messy' to me!). I'm guessing that's a VK flyer- I'd perhaps consider dumping the second lift, and have it do more 'low to the ground' elements, something akin to AIR at AT would do. The Buried Loop element, however, should stay- it works nicely there. -

NEWS: Wet n' Wild Las Vegas Announced!
QueerRudie replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A great concept- but consider this: The Wet and Wild here in North Phoenix was a county park until W&W took it over in 2008/9- they were able to gut the older park, install 16 slides and renovate everything in six months, so I'd expect that to not be so far fetched as you'd think- at least in theory. -
I really get tired of the complaining about the complainers, because honestly, I haven't seen that much in the way of complaints (in recent times). Sure, the same poster who has been on an anti-SFA rampage for years is bitching about the ride, but he's bitched at the slightest movement from the park. Honestly, all your post does to me is scream I want attention. When people start complaining about how horrible getting a new ride is, and how awful poor SFA is getting treated, come back and I'll support you. But I really don't see the point in going into an Ancient Mythology Epic about complainers when there's one person who's been complaining, and he'd complain if SFA got an Euro Fighter, just for the sake of complaining. Ummm- If I wanted attention, I'd ask for it- Epic miss on that statement... And as for the complaints; Read back quite a few pages, also, check out the FB pages as well, go read the SFGAm thread, add on Twitter accounts, and take a look around you. I've seen more complaining from people (Not just TPR people, but others) about IW's relocation than any other bitch-fest in a LONG time. Perhaps it's you who posted that for attention.

I decided it's time to work on a new park- Broke ground, and now thinking of how I want this park to turn out... SCR23.BMP Hmmm... RLP seems to have broken ground on a new project... -
I cannot belive I'm about to defend the actions of a theme park chain, let alone Six Flags America, but here goes... All I have seen for the better part of the SFA/SFGAm threads over the past few weeks since the idea of IW' packing it's trunks up has been "Bitch, Moan, Bitch Some more, Moan Some more, WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE, WAAAAHHH, cry some more, complain, complain, complain, crap on everybody..." Common thoughts: "Oh, it's so rough, it's terrrible, how can anybody say it's smooth, it's too old," Etc. Let me remind those people of this: BOTH Shockwave at KD and SkyRider at CW are OLDER than IW, and for that matter built by TOGO. And they do earn the call (From some people, myself included) of "PAINFUL". Now, compare either of those fine Japanese creations to Iron Wolf. And STOP COMPLAINING. Iron Wolf is still, 21 years later, SMOOTHER THAN EITHER ONE OF THEM, and for that matter, SMOOTHER THAN MOST ARROW COASTERS. If you want to ride a coaster that's like riding in your Grandmother's arms, you really shouldn't be riding a coaster. They're going to be a bit rough, they're going to throw you around. Common thoughts: "Why can't we get a NEW coaster, It's used, it's old," Etc. OK, it's not showroom new, it's not factory fresh, it doesn't have that new-train smell. Guess what? I really wanted a SFNE Batman floorless there, but GET OVER IT. It's STILL one more coaster than SFA has this year, and it's a great ride at that. No, it's not new, but then again, neither is Chang at SFGadv. Nor was Viper at SFaW, Zonga (Thriller/Taz's Tornado) at SFMW, the Original ShockWave at SFGadv/SFaW. Be thankful you're a coaster. Be thankful it's a good ride. And that it's a substantial addition for 2012, even if it's not new. I'm quite sure that it's not going to be the last addition to the park, despite it's current situation, and that SF inc. has other plans for the park in the future- it's a good ride, go and enjoy it. And please, for the love of G-D, stop bitching. There are far more pressing problems in the world today than to whine about a coaster that's being moved into your park.

HOLY F*%&. I'm floored- to say those parks are astounding would not be enough to say the very least. I keep forgetting about the little things (Accelerator wheels/LSMs) that the old RCT I had that didn't migrate to RCT II. Those are some stunningly beautiful designs. a trure testament to what people can do without having a lot of hinky scenery and related. Out-freakin-standing R.D. GFMT -

An excellent job, Fooz, with the picture! -
She is in fact, F-BVFA, sn 205- Concorde- one of the 7 that entered service with AirFrance- and the first ship to fly a south atlantic Concorde flight (Paris Charles De Galle to Rio De Janero via Dakar Senegal) in 1976. This same plane was featured in a James Bond film (Moonraker) shortly thereafter on said run.
-
The park is coming together nicely- but I'm not quite so sure about the B&M coaster. While I love the colors, and the idea behind it, it doesn't quite fit to the scale of the park- it's a bit too large for a smaller park in scale; I'd consider bringing it back a notch or perhaps using a different design- a Standup coaster of 100 ft in height, for example, or lower the height of it, and change the layout on the 'back end' of the ride- Perhaps instead of a cobra roll element, have the ride dive right and into a ground level helix of doom. The rest of the park looks fine in scale- The colors match, and are appropriate to the general theme- I look foward to seeing the rest of your park's expansion- R.D.

Let's see... Ride all of the Schwarzkopf coasters in one year, and have the last ten be my 'best of' list- finishing out with His greatest work on earth, WEM's MindBender. Ride all of the StarPorts in the order for which they opened- SP75,SP77,SP83,SP95,SP05.... and ride them in ONE WEEK. Have incredible 'woohoo' underneath Mindbender at SFOG...(Ooops, too much?) And for the preservation of humanity.... Buy the Revolution, scrap the OTSRs, Back Rests, and excessive everything, and RETURN IT TO IT'S STATE OF GLORY AS HE INTENDED IT TO BE!

A great photo TR of the NASM Udvar-Hazy center- I was there for opening day back ions ago- and it's still growing in the viewable collection. There are aircraft in there that do not exist at any other museum on earth- the 307 Stratoliner (The 'Indy Jones plane') is the last of the 10 of it built- and interesting enough, it survied a crash to get there- literally. Boeing and the Museum of Flight in Seattle hand-renovated that plane back to it's original state, taking the original airframe and adding parts from the only other surviving model (It was in too sad a shape to fly, so it gave it's life for this one!) to create this particular plane. After it's rollout, the FAA required it to do a series of training and proving flights before it's transcontinental journey to Washington Dulles- and was scheduled to go out to the AIRVenture at Osh Kosh, WI. Three days before it was scheduled to head out to Osh Kosh- and then DC, the plane was doing a proving flight over Puget Sound when a severe fuel leak forced the plane into the water- fortunatly, pilot and crew got out safely, but the plane sank to the bottom. Pulling it out, they were able to restore it to it's original state- and she was flew on for her final voyage to the NASM -UH facility. The constellation was for a while used as a storage facility near the hangar that contained the Enterprise, to the south of the existing 18R/36L runways; in 2000 during Dulles Day one could have voyaged in to see both the Connie and the Enterprise prior to the Udvar-Hazy facility being built. Nice photos all around!

Grouchy, Party of One, your table is now available. WINNING! I had to say this before in another thread: The haters gotta hate, the grouches gotta grouch, and there will people who will find some ENDLESS fault with a new ride that's not even OPEN yet!!! GET OVER IT. IT'S A NEW COASTER. BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
