  1. Does the relevance of Sports refer to the ride's actions?
  2. Congratulations to nin with his winning Arrow Suspended coaster! You can find it HERE in the Exchange Track of the week for 8/19/11: RCT II JUNIOR WOODEN COASTER Track of the week for 8/26/11: RCT II B&M Twister (NON-CATAPULT LAUNCH) For the Junior coaster: You may build it any way you choose- BUT: 1.) Your lift hill may NOT exceed 45 feet- at ALL. 2.) You may NOT go underground or in the ground- flat base for all. 3.) No customs are allowed. Good luck to all
  3. Dot- your park looks very nice so far; spread out, which is good for future expansion. As far as the Schwarzkopf looper goes, I'd rethink most of it- it's OK, but lacks the flowing qualities a good Schwarzkopf coaster has in it- the transitions are a bit too rough, and the arrangement of hills/drops/curves is a bit out of whack. Lower it down a bit (2 units above ground for platform start, for example) and refine the layout a bit- smooth it out a bit. My best guess is it's based upon ShockWave at SFOT, so I'd go with that theme idea- and perhaps mix in a little Revolution/Mindbender (SFOG) into the mix to refine it a bit.
  4. Or the Future of Gaga Coasters? Scott "really just wanted another reason to post that emoticon" B. I'm now -officially- terrified... and not of a Giga/Hyper coaster- but the idea that it could be on-ride audio with Lady Gaga. (I'm going to go and immerse myself in some Black Sabbath and Ramones for a while to force that image out of my head.)
  5. Awesome. The vehicles remind me, vaguely, of the Katoomba Orphan Rocker (Never opened, presumed defunct by now) and it's high- pivot suspension cars. I'm glad to see Disney is investing in perfecting this technology- as I think it will be something smaller/mid-sized parks would be interested in for a thrilling coaster that can do so much more in the future.
  6. The specific F.A.R.s (I don't recall the number) dictate elevation ranges from the end of a runway to a certain height; the general rule that is followed is this: For every mile from the end of a runway, buildings can ascend an addtional 200 feet in elevation; in some cases, such as the LA basin, there are exceptions to this rule; however, Knotts is well beyond that distancce for a commercial Airport (Even John Wayne/SNA is further than that). HOWEVER: Exceptions can be issued for military and defence purposes- such as in the case of Andrews AFB in Prince Georges Co. Maryland: Due to the arrangement and use of the field for 'special purposes' they have a cap of 200 feet within 10 miles of the twin-runways- in either direction. SFA is one of those in it's flightpaths (Although trajectory wise, not as much as other parks near fields) Due to the nature of Andrews AFB, they -required- a height limit of all areas surrounding. It's why S:ROS is 'buried' to get the first drop in at 200 feet: Look very closely under the lfit- and you'll see what I'm talking about here... In other cases, the FAA/FARs are exempted due to local needs- once again: Look at John Wayne/Orange county (SNA) which has some elevations over 500 feet within two miles of the runway. Generally, if these are present, addtional lighting and utility devices (GPWS: Ground Proximity Warning System) are used. This allows for variations in the rule- so, like most things governmental, there isn't realy a hard-core rule that cannot get an exemption. There is also no real guideline for buildings outside of the runway's headings- as in San Diego.
  7. For whatever reason, the theme park and coaster community attracts gay men. I've yet to figure it out myself, but it's one of those oddities, and perhaps in a way that is a good thing. TPR is the most welcome I've ever felt (with regards to being queer, that is) and more so than any other community in any circumstances. If more of the world were as tolerant as TPR is, we'd have a better planet all around- and not just for queers, but for everybody.
  8. As exciting as 2012 is shaping up, I'll admit: I'm still loyal to my semi-home park of Hershey, and SkyRush. While the others are going to be impressive in every way, shape and form, and for different reasons, Hershey's was first off the block, and has to me one of the more original arrangements for a coaster. I'll most likely log Dolly's new ride, and Verbolten, but comparing all these new coasters to each other isn't appliciable- they are all different, all beautiful, and all really needed! (Is it May yet???)
  9. To enter is easy: 1.) Open NL 2.) Build a Schwarzkopf Looping coaster with at least one loop, and not more than three. Details on page one. 3.) Submit your coaster to the Exchange and post a pic here. It's that simple!
  10. EPIC WIN ALL AROUND. I've HAD a B&M Hyper or two, and I've had an Intamin Hyper or two, and yes, the giant teal serpent-fish might be 306 feet tall.. but it's a wise park that knows when to say "SIZE DOESN"T MATTER."
  11. BGW: Drachen Fire (1992) and Loch Ness Monster (1978) Why a park with the most perfect Arrow looper built would want to upstage it still befuddles me to this day.
  12. Congratulations to CW for their newest pride and joy- and I'm thrilled that B&M has figured out the error in their ways and gone back to the way their trains should be- the wider/longer cars like on Behemoth don't feel quite right, so perhaps these will make a huge difference to the ride itself. BTW: Those columns are rather astounding all over- It looks like one could hide a few dozen bodies in them... at minimum. And now... It must be said: CW is officially the first park where you will find your peeps going "B&M Hypercoaster 2 looks too intense for me."
  13. NICE... but I have to say it... I've been holding back... "B&M Hypercoaster #2 looks too intense for me"
  14. The new ESC systems that Zierer is introducing full-scale to BGW is (In my opinion) amazing to say the very least. In all reality, I think it's going to be the key to making Zierer go from family coasters into the big leagues with Mack, Intamin and B&M for large-scale projects- not just a handful of family coasters annualy. It's like Wicked at Lagoon had a love child with CrossBow- and BOOM: Zierer hits one out of the park.
  15. So many jokes, so little class I could show... But either way, a massive erection shall rise in Vaughn, Ontario. (You're on your own from there.) I'm actually now very curious as to what spurred B&M to jump into the Giga game- or if it's just a new term for a type of coaster/scale of coaster instead of the terms that Intamin has given out for an over 300 foot coaster. It would seem odd that B&M is only now getting into the 300 footer game- but then again, I rule nothing out when it comes to parks and ride designers.
  16. Very pretty, A.J.- The Elliptical drop is -stunning- and adds a sense of flow/grace to the layout.
  17. Excellent TR, Buck. Anton would be pleased with your Prayers to Him. And the pics are amazing to say the least. For a park that usually is full to breaking, it looked more than manageable!
  18. As much as the BBW was a favorite of mine (Particularly in the Fall under a full moon...) I will miss it- but I know I won't compare Verbolten to it's predecessor- much as people didn't compare BBW to it's predecessor, Wildkatze. Verbotlen to me is going to be a great family coaster that (if it's done right, and I suspect it will be!) that will please Mom, Dad and the 2.7 children, as well as the coaster community as a whole. I have to give kudos to BGW for going after a themed coaster that has some teeth to it, and that going beyond the "Build another Coaster, Build another flat, Build another coaster" style/motive that has become a habit of many parks in the USA. People complained incessently about Drachen FIre when it was opened, and just as loud complained at it's removal. We should be looking at this as the loss of one (BBW) with fondness for it's memories- and look forward to the new one (Verbolten).
  19. My rule of thumb on things like 3DS is this: If I can't open your coaster and ride it, don't use it. Not to mention, if I can't ride it, I can't post it for voting later. So long as you can post your coaster up for people who don't use accesorie programs like 3DS, then it's OK. If it doesn't work in NL directly, the answer is NO. R.D.
  20. Nice pic, but it's inverted... and, more importantly: Only one pic??? Please add more content, as well as correcting your picture- or the thread shall be locked. R.D. Games Forum Managment Team
  21. Great Photo TR- it makes me miss what was my home park for the better part of a decade... The old DF station was well behind the BBW track area- in an odd corner behind the Festhaus. You can still see it from behind the Bumper cars pavillion- well in the distance.
