Funniest Ride Experiences
bottom_feeder_13 replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I was at SFMM's Fright Fest back in 2011 with a friend I made a point of trying to get a couple of rides in on Log Jammer after hearing it was supposed to close at the end of the month so we got in the relatively short line and got on the first time no problem with just the two of us in the log. It was starting to get dark and was a bit chilly, but with just the two of us totaling around 200 lbs in the log we barely got wet. After getting off the ride-ops asked if we wanted a re-ride, so we said yes. The problem was that this time we got put in a boat with two other people, both were quite overweight, and we ended up sitting in front. He made me sit in front of him to keep him dry despite the fact that I was significantly larger. This meant that I spent the entire ride trying not to smash him and also trying to stay dry. When we got the the last two drops we just started laughing at the absurdity of it all and then proceeded to get soaked on both drops despite the hydroplaning caused by the massive weight in the back and lack in the front. Just to cap it off another friend who had decided not to ride was standing at the water cannons and got us with 4 of them. Still one of my favorite amusement park related memories to date. -
The "Say Something Random" Thread

^Ha, just finished an amazing cake with a forever alone face on it that a friend made. It was tasty. -
^ Shouldn't really matter since this is supposed to have the same layout as the existing ones except for the drop so there shouldn't be the significant airtime that skyrush has. The ones on Lex Luthor are basically the same and are fine. The only thing I'm dubious about is the lack of lateral support for the hearline rolls.

Game: When was the last time you...

December 9th, Goliath at SFMM. When was the last time you ran more than a mile? -
What's your closest coaster?
bottom_feeder_13 replied to FishyFish's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As the crow flies its either B:TR or Scream! at SFMM unless the local fair is in progress, in which case its a Fabbri spinner. As for the closest as I can travel it would be Revolution. -

Its a bit of a shame to lose those awesome designs on the front of the cars, that will almost certainly not be on the new trains. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I actually think that the slots in the top of the key hole looks nice but the one at the base, with the support-like connectors in between looks a little rushed. That said I have a feeling that the gaps may end up being filled in before the start of the season. -
I believe its because a Disk'O is powered like a powered coaster and also has controlled spin while Half pipes have a launch in the middle but are free while traversing the spikes and the versions with spinning cars are free spinning.

The humor is appreciated and duly noted, but is hard to identify on first glance. 8/10 -

If SkyRush had I305's restraints I have a feeling it would have been my #1. Haven't ridden Maverick yet. I think this wouldn't quite be the case simply because the restraints on Skyrush provide so much freedom of movement that you fell like you'll actually fly out but on I305 I felt even on the strongest airtime moments that I was still safe and comfortable due to how cumbersome and restrictive the restraints are, this would sort of kill what I consider to be one of the best parts of Skyrush.

Weird/ Out of place coasters
bottom_feeder_13 replied to nhman93's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I would classify Ultimate as strangely placed because it's basically just in the middle of a field and a small forest, with the far ends a half kilometer or more from the rest of the park. -
Better Theming or More Track
bottom_feeder_13 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Save money on both and add a flat with the money saved (*cough*SFMM*cough*). -
I'm not that surprised at how fast the ride went up as it's essentially a semi-portable coaster that doesn't have any footers and just rests on a flat concrete pad. That said I really like the new color scheme and would love to see more Joker themed rides coming in the future, especially if they follow through with the theming.
-
It really depends on the park for me, as well as who I'm with. If I'm going solo I'll usually have gotten through the creds with time to spare and be on to getting re-rides and then just wandering, people watching and snapping pics and be done with the park well before closing. With a group of friends I'll usually end up doing some rides that I wouldn't normally do and then feel like I could use more time by the end of the day. Of course there are some parks that I just get a little bored of after a few hours due to lack of ride variety and or just lack of those wonderful little spots that most parks have, like the area around the log ride at KD or most of BGW. One exception to that rule is I normally am get pretty fed up with Disneyland by the end of a day, not because of the park itself (although I'm not a huge Disney fan), but mainly because the crowds there just lessen the experience a ton.

I'd hardly say that having X2 and Goliath in the same park is a crime, they offer two polar experiences, its like saying that skiing and mountain biking are the same because they're both going downhill on uneven surfaces. Secondly S:EFK is hardly something you ride for the launch, its more thrilling to do 0-100mph in a car. 2 launchers in a park is favoritism, are you trying to imply that SFDK is an SF flagship park because it has V2 and S:UF, or SFNE because it has a boomerang and a GIB. CP has 3 launch coasters and nobody accuses Cedar Fair of favoritism. My personal dislike of SF comes from the fact that they aren't a nice place to be. While Hershey isn't an highly themed park but I would still enjoy spending multiple days there so I could explore and ride at my leisure, at an SF park the only reason I would consider spending multiple days would be because I didn't have time to get a cred on the first day. There's also the fact that a large part of park-goers at SF parks are rather unsavory characters, meaning while I feel perfectly safe I don't feel comfortable (*cough*SFMM*cough*). At other parks, even large chain parks like CP I feel perfectly comfortable. Of course my favorite park is BGW simply because I could spend days there and never get bored simply because there is so much to do there despite small coaster selection, this is of course helped by the fact that I could ride any one of the coasters there all day and still enjoy myself.

That second shot is a truly amazing piece of photographic composition. One of the best non-boob related pictures in this thread so far. -
Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
bottom_feeder_13 replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That would suck as you go up the lift since your weight would be resting almost entirely on your collarbone with the blood rushing to your head for 30+ seconds. I could see that the backwards wing coaster trains could be a test for a 4d but I doubt it. -
Source? I can't believe that they would spend all this money on a new chassis just to turn the seats around for a period of time... I think that makes sense for SF since they'll probably run it at SFGAm for a while then ship the chassis to another park and just rotating it through the parks to build hype up around B:TR again.
