  1. I finally checked this off as a bucket-list item during IAAPA back in November. I've wanted to do it ever since riding Valleyfair's 180ft model almost 10 years ago. It doesn't quite touch the sheer terror of SCAD diving or bungee jumping, but it's insanely fun. It feels like you're falling forever before the slack is all used up and you start to swing out over the fountain.
  2. Renegade and Excalibur at Valleyfair are both located in relatively dark areas in the back of the park, which makes for great night rides. Matterhorn at Disneyland feels even faster and more chaotic at night. It makes it harder to see what's coming! I also really enjoyed Ghostrider at night the first time I rode it. This of course was before it got horrible. Looking forward to experiencing that again!
  3. I'm just waiting for someone to build a 3 or 400 foot Gerstlauer sky roller.
  4. A nicely themed proslide water coaster and a cool flat to replace the "midway stage".
  5. I'm running RCT 3 Platinum on my Macbook Pro, and I recently had to restore my computer from a backup. There used to be a dialogue box that would pop up when I would start RCT3 asking about preferences like shadows, resolution, and quality before launching the game. That no longer occurs, and I can't remember how I set that up in the first place. I've been looking online for info on it, but can't find anything. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or how to get that box to appear again? I think there's some key that I need to hold when I start the program. EDIT: Solved my own problem. If anyone's wondering, holding command after you launch the program will allow the box to pop up.
  6. All they need are the body scanners! I'm assuming pat-downs aren't included on any of the lower AP tiers?
  7. Why are you afraid they'll neuter it? Pretty sure they haven't neutered any rides they've worked on before. Plus, they've already announced it will not be using the mid-course brake run any longer. That's an indication right there that GR will not be neutered. It's going to haul A$$ through the whole ride. One could also argue that the removal of the midcourse means it will no longer be needed. What has to have been done to the ride for them to confidently promise guests that the midcourse is gone?
  8. My friends and I got stuck upside down on Brain Surge (chance unicoaster/downforce) at Nickelodeon Universe when it soft-opened. They were basically having a lot of issues where it would stop mid-cycle or would fail to park properly. We happened to be upside down when it shut off, and we basically just waited 5-10 minutes for maintenance to come pull a lever allowing them to manually put our seats back in place.
  9. Gonna try to convince the family to go to Knott's instead ("Discount Disneyland" as I call it.) What Coaster Freak 11 said. Plus I believe Silver Bullet is down to 1 train right now for rehab, so beware.
  10. Back seat on Adventureland's Tornado.... The first drop will catch you off guard. Long live buzz bars!
  11. If weekends are your only option, always choose Sunday. Get there in the morning, and head to twisted colossus and the back of the park first. No matter what day it is, I've always found that it takes people forever to make it to the back in the morning, so you can get half the park done rather quickly.
  12. Hades - I wasn't expecting the track in the tunnel to be so violent. I hadn't thought about it critically, but I guess I assumed it was just a flat stretch of track from one end of the lot to the other. When there actually were mini hills and 90 degree turns I was quite surprised. Thunderation - No particular element comes to mind, but I was shocked how fast we were going by the time we got to the bottom of the hill. Voyage - Triple down in the tunnel Mummy (Orlando) - Violent airtime on the first hill, and the surprise drop into "hell" at the end.
  13. I usually am a back-seat person. Good drops are one of the most important ride elements to me, and I don't want those to be ruined by slowly hanging over the top and not picking up any speed til you're pulling out.
  14. As long as the restraints don't make the tub too heavy to spin the way its supposed to, I'm cool with it. I love the ability to allow single riders, and also having a system where your safety doesn't rely on the dang door staying closed. I really hope these catch on in the parks again.
  15. I think the thing is that Kumba is a consistently intense ride from drop to final brake run. Certainly there are more intense single moments on a variety of coasters out there (many of which you listed above) but those of us who voted for Kumba are likely considering the entire experience.
  16. I guess in the strictest sense of the word "deserve", he stood up which was the exact catalyst for the natural reaction that followed. Unsympathetic as it sounds, he technically deserved it in a purely natural/scientific sense. Its not like an outside third party saw what happened and, after some consideration, sentenced him to falling off a log flume. I personally do think this is sad, and I am praying for him and his family because it sucks any time someone gets hurt. However the fact that the park is being blamed is outrageous and I don't feel any obligation to see him as some kind of victim.
  17. You spend your night defending Castles n Coasters against the crazies on facebook instead of working on all of the homework that's due tomorrow.
  18. I created a mini backyard skycoaster when I was in high school, because I was lucky enough to have a few tall trees in just the right place. My friends and I rigged up a quad block and tackle system to hoist "flyers" up, and then combined a backwards rock climbing harness and some belts as shoulder straps to connect people to the main swing line. Finally, we used a double highwayman's hitch on a nylon cord for the release. Lots of fun, glad nobody got hurt, and thankful for parents that let me do crazy things.
  19. I wish they brought that to IAAPA. Looks like fun!
  20. This is the first year that I really can't be sure. I don't know where I'll be living when I graduate in the spring, but until then, I definitely will visit the following: -Knotts -SFMM -DLR -Nickelodeon Universe Probably: -USH -Valleyfair -Adventureland Possibly: -Busch Gardens Tampa -Sea World Orlando -WDW -Universal Orlando and IOA -Lagoon
  21. 1. Everest 2. Rock 'n Rollercoaster 3. Standard Boomerangs. I love them.
  22. Montezooma's Revenge at Knotts last night.
  23. I find the Batman clones to be the most physically testing B&Ms out there. However in terms of everything the ride has to offer and pacing, I would probably say Kumba or Dragon Khan
  24. A few things you can do would be.... -Leave early in the morning on the day of your actual visit to the park, rather than arriving the night before and paying for a hotel -If you ARE going to be purchasing meals or the souvenir bottle, usually it's substantially cheaper if you purchase ahead online. -Minimize the amount of meals you eat in the park OR purchase some kind of all-day dining option. If you pay as you go for 3 meals and snacks, you'll rack up a much larger bill than eating offsite or using the deals offered by the park. Basically, planning ahead will usually help you. -Bring people to split gas money and parking with -If you stay on property, Breakers Express is fine and much less expensive than the other hotels.
