  1. Some dilapidated wacky worm at the county fair last week. #156
  2. I agree 100%. I really enjoy the spring launched Slingshot Rides! However, I avoid the elastic ones for this very reason. Also, the elastic Slingshot rides are not nearly as smooth as the spring launched! Hope the rider with the broken leg has a quick recovery. Glad it wasn't worse. The elastic ones are way more intense, IMO, and should be perfectly safe if operated and maintained properly. That said, I do think we will continue to see them phased out in favor of the newer models made by Funtime. Guests seem more comfortable with cables moving at a high speed than bungee cords.
  3. This is really unfortunate. I wonder why parks seem to be having issues with these now. One would think regular inspection and replacing the cords when due would prevent this kind of thing.
  4. I still like Viper a lot. I haven't had any major issues with it, despite being over 6 feet tall. That said, most of my height is in my legs, so that could be why. I haven't experienced a worse Arrow than CP's Corkscrew yet.
  5. its tire driven so when the track is wet the tire slips and it stops itself Yeah anything tire driven at any park typically goes down until things dry out. Same reason you don't see looping starship, wheel of fortune, or mad-mouse running in the rain either.
  6. 1. Maverick 2. Outlaw Run 3. Magnum Xl 200 4. Twisted Colossus 5. New Texas Giant 6. Montu 7. X2 8. Kumba 9.Top Thrill Dragster 10.Tatsu
  7. As cool as that is, I'd still rather have a full-size Pegasus from Technical Park. It's like a better version of chaos.
  8. THIS! Even the general public appreciates the difference between the front, back, and middle of a train.
  9. But yeah I'd be curious to know what is different about it from previous years.
  10. ^lol! So true. Knott's was never able to get Windseeker re-opened.
  11. I love Wildthing, but I very much prefer Magnum... Those triangular airtime hills are amazing, and there's nothing like charging out towards the lake. The trains and transitions feel very similar to Excalibur, actually. Magnum's airtime reminds me of the one ejector hill on Excalibur, only it happens repeatedly on the entire return trip.
  12. Giant Dipper - Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - 1924 Followed closely by San Diego's Giant Dipper - 1925
  13. yeah the part I find mist disquieting are those who seem to be truly unprepared. . the man was in his 90's! but I do believe while packing for our trip this weekend, we'll be having an in-memoriam "Hammer-Castle" film marathon in his honor. I agree, it's nowhere near as shocking as when we lose someone much younger. At the same time, he was still somewhat active in both film and music, and I think people just figured he was doing fine.
  14. You probably are smart as an enthusiast and go on days that won't be high-traffic. There are plenty of days, particularly July and August, that the lot fills up.
  15. Yesterday? I saw some VIP event being catered there. I saw that too. There was some kind of event or something.
  16. *Originally built by Arrow Dynamics *Alan Schilke was the head designer *Refurbished in 2007/2008 by S&S Arrow, featuring new trains that use "pickle spoons" instead of "pickle forks" Next Coaster: Thunderation at Silver Dollar City
  17. They seem to have held up better than CCI/Gravity Group coasters, but I agree that many GCI's have begun to show their age. Apocalypse, while still one of my favorites at SFMM, really loses speed towards the end. Renegade is beginning to require more track work each season, and apparently nothing could be done to fix Gwazi. My guess would be that with these more intense, modern wooden coasters, regardless of the manufacturer, they begin to need much more annual maintenance over time, and some parks do more than others to keep them running well. RMC can't really be evaluated yet, because their only wood-tracked coaster is just a few years old. I'd like to see more GCI's in the US, so long as parks are committed to maintaining them well. I really enjoyed Gold Striker, and still love Renegade, Prowler, and others.
  18. They should just remove scream and replace it with queue
  19. Definite is a strong word. Read the last few lines of the sign... "And this history, this legacy, will continue here at The Roller Coaster Capital of the World" ... Again, definite is a strong word.
  20. Thats where the cars are usually stored when waiting to be put on or just after being taken off, so I wouldn't read in to it. Plus there hasn't been a year in recent memory that rumors of Excalibur's removal weren't swirling around...
  21. I was within earshot when someone said this, but I was pretty sure it was a joke? It just seems so ridiculous. Regardless, they obviously pulled those trains off for a reason. I'm not holding that against them; I just hope they can resolve whatever the issues were before the season heats up. Regarding the actors and everyone else pulling out their phones, that's one of my biggest park pet peeves. Nobody can bother to respect a rule anymore, much less the safety of the people riding with them/walking around on the ground below.
  22. ^Glad I didn't drive up again this morning like I was considering. So they ran it really late last night for grad night (unannounced) but then couldn't get it ready for their passholders? (Announced). I'm not surprised people are mad. To avoid the incoming hate from certain people on here, I attach another disclaimer.... *I absolutely love this ride and understand that it will have technical difficulties. I just feel bad for people who don't understand that (general public) and were given no reason to think it wouldn't be ready*
  23. In my experience, yes. I guess others are saying their requests were granted, but the 3 times I asked I was turned down, and I witnessed almost everyone else being turned down as well. I guess it depends on who's grouping people.
