Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
dippindotsguy8 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's really not that bad, people just love to be dramatic. The bigger issue with looping starship is that it's not the most comfortable ride, and it's not that thrilling either. When I was younger I used to like it more, but I'm just not that big of a fan of blood rushing to my head. There are much worse rides out there (any B&M standup, a zacspin ride if it doesn't flip, etc) Just don't let the OTSR dig into your chest. Allow yourself a little room, and brace against it during the ride. -

That's actually a good question. That thing has been around forever. It doesn't make sense that it took years to show up anywhere else, and just in the last couple seasons it's practically become a standard for any full-scale waterpark. -
During the summer, I work at my home park, so I'm there almost constantly, and often spend an hour before or after my shift to hit some rides. When I'm out in SoCal for school, I probably visit Knott's and Disneyland weekly, and Magic Mountain every month or two. USH and SWSD are once a year, if that.

SoCal Trip Indecision
dippindotsguy8 replied to aCoasterStory's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would do Disney on the weekend, and take a couple hours at Knott's on Monday morning. Cars land is amazing, and you should definitely hit Xcelerator at Knott's even if that's all you have time for (since you have a platinum pass). If you're gonna come back for Twisted Colossus, don't bother with SFMM. If you do end up going to SWSD, I think it's worth hitting Belmont Park. The two coasters are different enough to justify riding, and the park is really close by. -

Yesterday at DCA: "Yeah it used to be called Xcelerator, but then they repainted it, and re-did a lot of the sound and now it's California Screamin" -

The park does have a bar cart in the waterpark with hard stuff. It sells to the cabanas as well. Also, there are 10 different kinds of beer at Chickies and Petes, and they have a variety of imported beers at Sidewinder Burrito. Then there's the standard stuff on tap in a couple other locations. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Xcelerator at Knott's, a few weeks ago. -
I'm so glad you started this thread! What I love about traveling fairs is the opportunity to experience some of the more rare flat rides that you never see in parks. Many of my favorite flats are usually limited to traveling operations. I unfortunately have not experienced Wade Shows (Unless they do the MN State Fair), but I've heard good things!

I would definitely agree with you that Cedar Point is a better all around amusement park, but keeping that in mind I find that the coasters at Magic Mountain beat out the intensity of the rides at Cedar Point, hands down. Even more so when MM had Deja Vu. Just my opinion, don't get me wrong I love Cedar Point, I just found myself a bit disappointed with many of the ride experiences not living up to their hype. I agree, and MM's coaster collection is probably the only category MM beats out CP. If you were to remove CP's marquee rides (MF, TTD, and Maverick) you wouldn't be left with much other than Raptor, Magnum (if you like pain), and Gatekeeper. Whilst if you remove MM's most popular rides (X2, Tatsu, and YOLOcoaster) you still have Goliath, Apocalypse, Batman, Riddler, Superman, Green Lantern, Ninja etc; I'm not sure I would agree with you. I find Green Lantern to be a much worse experience than Mean Streak, Goliath is a snooze compared to Magnum, Superman just feels like driving down the highway (which I guess in CA is worth experiencing, since you're usually stuck in traffic). Batman and Raptor are comparable I guess, though I think Raptor's layout is more interesting. Riddler used to be better than Mantis, but the Rougaru transformation will change that. Of course, Ninja outdoes Iron Dragon, and Cedar Point doesn't have a good twister woodie. But Blue Streak is a ton of fun, and Gatekeeper is a decently fun ride. I'm not a CP fanboy. It's not my home park, and it's not even my favorite park. But I still think the overall quality of the coaster lineup is far better. Of course opinions are opinions, but that's my take

QFT. You're all on a wild goose chase. Either that or he won't have "sources" for long because if he really does know things, he's being terribly irresponsible. -
The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

How's this for a "crazy idea" that will likely never happen: Star-Flyers - That's right. A typical star flyer, but with Larson flyers attached to it rather than the usual swing seats. This would likely be the most terrifying ride to ever exist. -

They would have the ultimate jackass host. Chris Hardwick. I'd rather see Chris Hansen host it. -

Would we even get one, with Ghost Blasters at the MOA, how closely would the public relate the two? I feel like that argument has been shown to be pointless time and time again. First, it likely doesn't matter at all. Second, Ghost Blasters at MOA is pretty old-tech by now. If these Triotech rides improve with Knotts' installation, they would likely outdo ghost blasters. Especially if they reach a better blend of sets and screens. -

I've been on all Cedar Fair GCIs, both Giovanola Hypers, both IAD coasters, and every North American Zacspin. That's about all I can think of. If I can just get to Canada's Wonderland and Fiesta Texas, I will have ridden all Windseekers and all RMC's to date.
