TPR Facebook Questions
dippindotsguy8 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device? (or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.) I can turn that off?! Wonderful! No autoplay 2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page? Not regularly. I retweet on twitter all the time, but I rarely share others' posts on facebook. 3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?) If any, news stories or interesting forum discussions that you sometimes mention on FB 4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored? Pretty much just TPR videos, and I usually watch the whole thing. If it's from buzzfeed or upworthy, or has a title along the lines of "she puts eggs in a pan.... you won't believe what happens next", I get angry. 5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video) As long as it matches the title, and accurately depicts what I'm about to see, I'm satisfied. 6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you? Like: The two levels of interaction.... you can publicly discuss things on a page, and have a private profile for friends. Dislike: People posting stupid things, bandwagon topics, etc. 7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of? I just want nina kleppe to like more things. And as others have mentioned, you really do stay on top of your comments section, which is great. -

^I'm sorry, you're right... My last post was a bit harsh. I guess I just feel like speculation in this thread frequently goes off the rails into ludicrous stuff purely for the sake of having something to discuss. Even the least credible of rumors from the least credible sources are considered to be discussion-worthy. Maybe I'm just expecting too much, and I understand the offseason can get long. -

Aside from a couple exceptions (Xtreme Swing and Power Tower come to mind) What flats don't often have a one or two cycle wait? Especially ones that seat almost 40 at a time? With that as the key, be ready to say goodbye to Enterprise, Scrambler, Tilt-a-whirl, Monster, most of Planet Snoopy, Wheel of Fortune, Supercat, Looping Starship, and more. I think if anything, Riptide would go for maintenance reasons, or for better use of it's space. I don't know how much of an issue the ride has been for Valleyfair, but as I look across the chain, most of the top spin rides I've seen were either sitting in pieces (worlds of fun), running very weak cycles (CGA, Dorney), or just down frequently (Knott's, Valleyfair?). YES! A new flume (if done right) is honestly higher on my wish list than a new coaster would be haha. That said, I'd rather it be somewhere more scenic, like somewhere in the Dinos area (particularly back where the old picnic grounds were). Obviously it'd be awhile before that happens, but I'd love for them to build a flume that pays tribute to the original. -
My "home" six flags park is Magic Mountain. I chose neutral, because overall, I didn't see any substantial improvement in terms of operations, cleanliness, and so on. However, I will mention the great addition that Holiday in the Park made to the experience. This is an exciting direction to see the park going, and I really hope to see more seasonal things like that. It wasn't enough to make me choose "better than before", though, because I feel like that ignores too many of the park's other problems. I also find it kinda unprofessional how much of the decision-making management appears to leave to the guests in terms of future stuff. Some of the things they ask you on the "future attractions" surveys are things they should really be able to determine on their own. It sends the message that they have no clue what they're doing. I like to see a park that can come up with something that's a hit without having their guests hold their hand through the development process. That's just my opinion though. I do appreciate that they try to engage their guests... it just seems like a little much at times. I could be way off-base... maybe people want that.

I could live with some topper track, assuming no modifications are made to the layout. Anything else would be a crime. An interesting question is what Son of Beast's fate would have been if RMC was as big then as they are now. However, given that Mean Streak is still it's old Dinn self, I don't necessarily imagine anything different would have been done. -

Not sure why everyone's saying Wildthing needs to be re-profiled/given new trains/given steeper drops. It's a solid ride. Even if it's not among the best hypers out there by enthusiasts standards, it's still a very popular attraction that most guests thoroughly enjoy. I know somebody's gonna talk about the Mantis/Rougarou transformation, but that happened because it gave a bad ride in it's original form. As for other things people listed, I can definitely see... 1. More waterpark down the road 2. Coaster either in the amphitheater's spot or the dinos/old picnics area 3. Flyers in Route 76 4. A major flat somewhere (Not a Huss frisbee though... Isn't Huss kinda on the rocks with everyone right now?) 5. A fairly significant amount (more than a couple million) thrown at general improvements/infrastructure. Think about the current condition of the parking lot, possible need to move service roads to make room for things, etc. Even the non-exciting stuff like roads, knocking down buildings and replacing them, etc is decently expensive. 6. Something done with Excalibur, whether it's eventually removed, remodeled, who knows. It's an aging Arrow that's not exactly the biggest draw. I wouldn't say it's unpopular, but it's not a star attraction necessarily. 7. Something I really want for selfish reasons is one of the full-sized Technical Park Pegasus rides. They're super fun! It's like a better Chaos with higher capacity. -

My problem with getting an SLC or a Boomerang is that I'd rather have something custom and fairly unique. I don't want something that almost every park has an exact copy of. I don't think they're unsafe, and not all of them are bad, but they're a dime a dozen. -

I really don't think an isolated incident at one park (on a ride model that has been operating all over the world for years) can be used to say that everything from a particular manufacturer is dangerous. -
What do you think of Fast Passes?
dippindotsguy8 replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If the system is set up well, meaning legitimate merge points are set up (rather than ops telling people that their seats have been taken), and the number sold is limited enough so as not to drastically effect the normal wait time, I like them. I don't think there is anything wrong with a park offering these options... you are not forced to pay for it if you're not interested, and I have never been to a park where it was absolutely necessary to have them. However, if running a park, I would be reluctant to offer the "fast lane" style passes (no reservation times) just because it pisses so many guests off. It also can create legitimate problems if not regulated properly. People who pay for it can still end up waiting in long lines, and people who didn't feel ripped off because it nearly doubles their wait time. Fast Pass/Fast Lane/Flash Pass is a great idea, and I don't have any issue with it in theory. However, it needs to be very carefully implemented and regulated so as not to anger people. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
dippindotsguy8 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is what I would call a luxury problem. Yes, just be happy Canada's Wonderland has two awesome Hyper/Giga coasters. These Cedar Fair parks do not have any Giga Coasters or really good Hyper coasters: -Knott's Berry Farm -Michigan's Adventure -California's Great America -World's Of Fun -Valleyfair -Dorney Park No one on here is complaining that the park got a hyper and a giga. Though it's not a crime to wish for some variety. Agreed. I honestly don't enjoy parks as much that are very B&M-heavy. Unless it's Busch Gardens Tampa. -

Anything's possible, and I would say that if the company is in fact discussing a dive machine with B&M, it adds to the chances slightly. However I also wouldn't think it changes the game too drastically to have them looking at one for CP. I do agree with your concerns over cost, hopefully if they do go with it, they'll be generous. We could use something substantial one of these seasons. -

if you are working there again this summer keep your eyes wide open and report here what you see. If VF is getting a new coaster you will probably be one of the first to know by seeing construction markings sometime in late July or early August. If a new coaster also involves removing an older one then we will see markings even earlier than that. If a new coaster is coming in 2016 I am sure we will see other signs of it happening before they make the official announcement so be on the lookout for sure. Or if you work there maybe consider your responsibilities as an employee higher than your allegiance to the enthusiast community. Just a thought -
Summer Job at a park (SFA)

Haha, this is exactly how it is at the first park I worked for. We were all ready for it to be done, but within a month we were counting down the days 'til the beginning of the next season. -
Summer Job at a park (SFA)
dippindotsguy8 replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hi there! I have not worked at SFA (or any six flags park), so I can't really tell you how that is. However, I've worked in parks for the last 8 years, so hopefully I can give you some advice. 1. Pick a department that allows positive guest interaction, and working as a team. Common complaints I've heard about working admissions at other parks is that you're alone in a booth or at a turnstile a lot, and you have to deal with a lot of concerns over ticket price, enforcing dress code and outside food/beverage policies, etc. If you want something fairly easy-going, pick rides or merchandise. If you're up for something a bit more intense and unpredictable, pick Foods. 2. Of the departments I've worked in, I've had the most fun in rides. While you do need to be efficient and ensure that your attraction is being operated exactly as trained, the crowd levels will not impact you as directly as they will in Foods. A typical day (if opening shift) started with sweeping and cleaning the ride area, re-setting the queue, and performing an opening inspection (typically making sure nothing is damaged, all informative signs are clear and readable, and that things are in working order). You will likely perform test cycles of your ride before opening for the day. Most rides will have a rotation set in place. You will usually rotate throughout the various positions on a fairly frequent basis (typically on the hour). This keeps things fresh and allows you to do different things during your shift. Generally, your responsibilities include making sure guests are qualified to ride (checking heights and other physical requirements), operating the attraction efficiently and following procedure to the letter, ensuring safe operation by enforcing rules and observing the ride during its cycle, managing guest assistance/special access passes, and providing friendly, professional service. 3. I would recommend working closer to home. At seasonal parks, a big factor in hiring is availability. Being able to work further into August will help you. 4. Be positive! Know that working in any service/hospitality industry has its challenges, but try to make the most of your time there. Working at a park is a great opportunity to be a part of what is likely a very special day for your guests. While you will probably run into some very negative people (guests and employees) who constantly complain, don't let them steal the joy out of the great parts of the job. It truly is what you make it. Best of luck! -

Cedar Point and Carowinds both have RipCords and Slingshots (Carowinds will get one this year), so I don't see why RipCord would stop Valleyfair from getting their own Slingshot. King's Island has both as well -
