Does IOA need expansion?
pvcoasterguy replied to Coasters 4 ever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ He's referring to the Jurassic Park River Adventure, located in the Jurassic Park Island. ^^ When I went to Universal for spring break, The Cat worked a ton better than it has in the past. There was steam coming out of a bunch of places (shower, tea kettle, and the Cat's machine.) And almost everything was on cue. The spinning tunnel worked also. It's a great ride! But, they do need to fix JPRA. Sometimes a couple things don't work, but they're usually little things. (The doors, sparks, among others.) The doors are really cool when they work. It feels like you're going into the real thing with that music, and the total awesomeness of it all. -
Does IOA need expansion?

I highly doubt that Universal's going to go to Intamin, given their current reputation for buying only B&M's (other than the kiddie coasters and Revenge of the Mummy,) Universal has had great luck with B&M. All of Universal's B&M's are amazing, and none of them have had any major issues. They're quality rides, from a quality company. Also, given all of Intamin's problems right now, I doubt they'd get an Intamin. Also, Universal isn't just going to plop down a regular coaster, like Six Flags would. Universal goes toward the "experience" route; where a ride is totally different than everything else. Look at Dueling Dragons, Hulk, Ripsaw Falls, Revenge of the Mummy (Florida version), Spiderman. They are all experiences, something you can't do when you go to a normal theme park. They do stuff different, yet better. I'd really like to see the Jurassic Park jeep ride. It would be amazing. They should have the jeep fall down the wall (like the effect in the River Adventure at Calif.) with you in it. Or, just make a cool ride. Something though, because the JP area seems pretty boring.[/b] -

The Official Amazing Race Thread!
pvcoasterguy replied to Meteornotes's topic in Random, Random, Random
It was really awesome that they won; I really hated the other teams. U & J, for the first flight, were on Stand-By, but they still held the flight for them. It's totally the pilot's choice, and I guess he was a nice guy. I highly doubt he knew about the Amazing Race coming there. Oh, I read in the newspaper that families of four will be competing this coming fall on the Amazing Race. -
Meet @ DLR 6/2/05
pvcoasterguy replied to SixFlagsJunkie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Twister II, it's offense, and you're. Six Flags Junkie, I think you should just hang out with friends! It's a ton of fun. I think it's better to go with your friends to parks rather than (basically) strangers. -
I don't think regular B&M trains would work for Iron Wolf. I'm pretty sure the track width is different, same with the brakes. So, the trains would have to be editied a lot to work on Iron Wolf. But, Iron Wolf would still have some of those really tight transitions that would still be rough with sit-down trains.

Elissa, MegaZeph, unfortunately, was pretty rough last summer However, one train was noticbly more rough than the other. The 'bad' one would squeal around all the turns, and was close to Mean Streak roughness. However, the other train was a lot better, thankfully. It was still rough, but not near as bad. But that 'mini' double-up totally killed my body. Horrible. Good ride, I just wish I could've ridden it when it first opened- I know it would be amazing.

Last weekend: Highs 70+ around here in eastern Iowa. Topped off at 83 where I live. This weeked: Snowed. High yesterday: 42. Sweet. (Yeah right. I was freezing!) Frost warning this morning.

Even though I can't drive yet, (this summer I will,) I've been looking at cars for awhile. My dad wants a new one, so we go around lots on Sundays after church... pretty fun. If you're going new, - Toyota Prius. 60 MPG. Pretty sharp looking also; has pretty good acceleration for a hybrid. Will pay off in the future. - Hyundai Elentra/Accent. The new ones are the ones with the best gas milage; the old ones don't have good milage. Anyways, they're pretty darn nice, and cheap. - Mazda 3. Small, but cool looking. Okay gas milage (I think about 35?). - Honda cars. Good, reliable, efficient. Enough said.

Whoa -- Star Tours revamp?
pvcoasterguy replied to Three's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Meh... Star Tours was alright. My dad said that also. It really wasn't anything real special, and the film is really boring. (Just racing through a bunch of rocks and stuff.) IMO, Back to the Future > Star Tours. Back to the Future's film was ten times better, and, while rough, was overall more enjoyable. It also had a lot more of a story. -
^Yeah, the Premier ones are fairly heavy, and they don't let me move my feet or legs much. But, they're better than harnesses! I feel most secure in B&M OSTR's. They are fairly comfortable (compared to Arrow/Vekoma) and are very secure. The B&M flying harnesses, while huge, make you feel very secure but most importantly, comfortable, while in flight. Padded, and you can get a good grip. I like the vest on it also. The most comfortable is the buzz bar (of course) or the clamshell. The worst, however, are the lap bars on the American Eagle! No place to grab onto, and you get stapled in really, really tight every time. (There are no real clicks on these PTC ratcheting lap bars. They used to be buzz bars, but were retrofitted.) SFGAm, home of the ratcheting buzz bars, that take ten buzzes to get undone. But the Gerstlauer ones are a close second.

Haven't tried the new ReMix yet, but I really don't want to. Those first two, espically the Berry one, almost made me puke.

You can kind of see something sticking up in this real life picture of Superman at SFDL. http://rcdb.com/ig541.htm?picture=2 EDIT: Forgot link. 8)

What's wrong with Deja Vu?
pvcoasterguy replied to BarryH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^But Top Thrill Dragster is over twice as tall and a little over fourty miles per hour faster than Xcelerator. There is a ton more stress on the launch cable. Plus, Xcelerator has two trains compared to Dragster's six. -
What's wrong with Deja Vu?
pvcoasterguy replied to BarryH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe they got something that can push the train when it gets stuck, after evacuated. (Might replace the crane?) Anyways, there are probably a ton of problems with the catch car, and, as DRWP2005 said, "It's a Vekoma!" Combined with some of the maintainence at Six Flags (cough Magic Mountain coughs), you've got a ride that only runs 45% or less of the operating season. Great America's actually ran pretty well last year. Let's hope for the best this year. Kyle "Deja Vu was actually really scary!" W. -
The most rare coaster credits
pvcoasterguy replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey Kip, come down to Iowa... we've got a great Cobb with tons of airtime that's open all summer long! Anyways, I don't have any real 'rare' credits. I guess Peterdron Flyers could be one. But, I do have a credit Elissa doesn't have! "Justin was happy to ride again, but Elissa was bummed that she missed her Shock Wave credit." (03' trip to SFGAm) The mighty SFGAm Shockwave! I thought it was really smooth... I must have been really lucky. Kyle "I have a credit Elissa doesn't (lol)!" W. -
Kraken: Sea World Orlando
pvcoasterguy replied to Sharkyjon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kraken is awesome. Simply put. It's my favorite looping coaster, and I've been on quite a few loopers. Kraken is very graceful, and has an awesome zero-g roll taken very fast. The mid-course brake is barely on, then you do a loop and do a speed hill down into Kraken's lair, then finish with an awesome corkscrew. Great ride. But you've got to do it in the front also. -Kyle "But don't forget about the good Journey to Atlantis really close to Kraken!" W. -
Mr Six the ride at SFNE...
pvcoasterguy replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That looks really awesome... and it looks like it has an airtime/bunny hill! The best part of the normal spinning mice by Zamperla (the traditional design) is the really tiny speed bump towards the end of the ride. This spinning coaster looks really awesome compared to some of the normal ones. BTW, I just looked it up on RCDB, and it turns out that it's a Gerstlauer, not a Maurer-Shone. Looks pretty fast for a ride that's only 42 feet tall. -
My Jurassic Park Ride Idea
pvcoasterguy replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be really cool! JP at IOA is really lacking in rides. But, there might be one problem... down at Animal Kingdom they have a Dinosaur jeep ride. Kind of. But, I think it would be really cool regardless. Universal could do it so much better than Animal Kingdom, or any Disney Park. -
Hey guys... http://www.gsn.comhas some pretty good games, not game show- related. However, there are only three people to a room. But, even if we don't use the site for game night, I highly reccomend it! Some of the games are great.

PKI fanatics are senile
pvcoasterguy replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dang... those PKI peeps almost sound like this coasterbuzz thread. I think the guy got banned for just starting this thread: http://coasterbuzz.com/forum.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=41278&page=1 It's sad how civilized this fourm is compared to so many others. I don't want to go anywhere else. 8) -
Tornado at Adventureland in Iowa. Simply amazing in the backseat. No gentle slope into the drop, no slowing down at the top of the lift. Just pure ejector air in the back seat. The drop is very steep and fast. Take a look at rcdb.com or something... you'll see. In addition, the Outlaw, (picture in my avatar,) at the same place has an amazing drop in the backseat also. But, this time you get ejector air while flying down a GCI-type drop, but has a B&M-type dip n' drop concept.

Introducing: The New James Bond
pvcoasterguy replied to Sir Clinksalot's topic in Random, Random, Random
Hmm... I don't know. He might be good, might not... he kind of reminds me of Timothy Dalton from "Liscence to Kill" and "The Living Daylights." However, Bond movies are all usually pretty darn good, have big budgets and big returns at the box office. They're pretty enjoyable. -
Six Flags Great America made a great change for the better last year... staff seemed much better, and they had three train op on Raging Bull, even on a Monday (so it only had a five minute wait.) In addition, the only ride closed was Ice Mountain Splash (Logger's Run only had a five minute wait anyways.) Deja Vu was operating with a full line, but only an hour wait. But last year, at about the same time, over five rides were closed on a Tuesday or Wednesday, I think, and many other rides opened at noon. Raging Bull ran two trains, but its wait was over thirty minutes. Very dissapointing. SFGAm has always been a good park and a great Six Flags park. They keep getting better year after year, and hopefully the waterpark will make an even better park. I voted for SFGAm because of the following: 1) Great trees in the older areas of the park 2) The Whizzer's setting... simply amazing. 3) Southwest Territory... great area and it's themed very well. Also holds two of the best coasters in the park: Viper and Raging Bull. (Although American Eagle forwards was running amazing when I was there... blew Viper out of the water. I don't know what they did to it, but it was awesome and very smooth. And it was racing! There were also very few brakes on the ride, espically compared with earlier years. They were still on fairly heavy for backwards, but that's probably because the trains don't run as well backward, and tear up the track) 4) Good staff. Most of them are very efficient and pretty darn good. 5) Overall "Fun" Factor. I had an amazing time last year, and it made me want to come back again some other time. Few Six Flags parks can do that, which is the problem of Six Flags.
