  1. ^^ But Frontier makes you pay $5 to have your TV service activated. Okay... since I only have a small airport by me, I'll kind of talk about that whole story. MLI (Moline/Quad-City International) is a very nice airport. It was recently redone. Now it's a beautiful airport, although it is a little small. It has arching ceilings and a ton of windows- definatly a modern airport. http://www.qcairport.com/ We have a fair number of routes, at least for a regional airport. But, they're all to connecting airports (Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, etc.) While we have United Express, NWAirlink (Northwest Airlink), it's confusing how many small airlines we really have. For United Express: Mesa, Chattaqua, Air Wisconsin, and, on occasion, a few others. For Delta Connection: Comair For Northwest Airlink: Pinnacle, Mesaba For American Airlines: American Eagle The only airline that operates its own flights: Airtran! And, we don't really have many types of aircraft here. Usually less comfortable, smaller, but they're jets (other than one flight per day), so they're fast. Planes that come here: EMB-145/40/35 (Embraer, 50/45/40 seats) CRJ/CR7 (Canadair, 50/70 seats, very uncomfortable) Avro RJ-85 (Avro, about 70 seats) Boeing 717 (Boeing, 120 seats) Our airport can actually handle big aircraft. Air Force One landed here.
  2. I started this topic because, well, most people can share stories (good or bad) about airlines or talk about them in general. So, I'll start. Route: MLI (Moline/Quad Cities)-TPA (Tampa) w/ connection in Chicago O'Hare Date: Late June 2005 (can't remember the exact date) Airline: American Airlines/American Eagle Incident(s): Going there was fine. We just made our connection and had good seats. Coming back was another story. First off, our airplane made it late to the gate. Two and a half hours late. (Ugh.) We go up to the counter and have the gate agent 'reaccomidate' us because, we're going to miss our connection. The guy was very nice, but found that the next flight (ORD-MLI) was already overbooked by twelve people. (This is on a fifty passenger regional jet.) So, he calls US Airways, they don't answer their phone. United says they can't help us. So, he just gives us tickets for the next flight, and we are guarenteed a seat (because it was American's fault.) Get to Chicago, and get our tickets. We get good seats (two bulkheads, two exit rows.) Then, American Eagle (American's Regional Partner) begins delaying almost all flights, in thirty minutes. The delay would almost be over, but, then they'd tack another thirty minutes onto the departure time. Eventually, we stopped after we hit two hours. During that two hours, they changed our gate over seven times. (Probably to lose people to give their seats to other people.) We finally get into the plane, and find our seats. They let me bring my suitcase on, and, it fit. I was the only person whose suitcase fit. (Amazing on such a tiny jet) But, our plane is delayed another thirty minutes, because of two lost passengers. We finally leave. We got home 4 1/2 + hours after we were supposed to. Ugh. We didn't even get an apology from American, the staff was unfriendly (except for the gate agent that got us tickets.) I'm not inclined to fly American again.
  3. I start August 17th. As a Freshman. But, I've had to do marching band this entire time, so I know a ton of the kids. (More than 20% of our school is in band.)
  4. I thought Six Flags Worlds of Adventure was a great idea. It was a true example of the "mega-park." It had waterslides/pools, wildlife, and rides. It had the drawing power, if Six Flags had tried, they could've got it to be one of the top theme parks in the world.
  5. Six Flags Great America's staff has never been bad, but they've gotten a lot better! They're just as efficient as before, but they add in more fun to the job, by giving different spiels, before and after the automatic ones, and just having more fun. It seems like Six Flags is in a turnaround!
  6. ^ Are you a pilot or flight attendant?

Musal, Angela or Health (ugh...) LaBarge, Amy They switched me from weight lifting to lifetime activities for no reason. Now they won't let me switch back.
  8. On certain foods with Splenda as a sweetner: Warning: Excessive consumption may cause laxitive effect.
  9. August 7th and 8th, 2005- Six Flags Great America Rides closed: Deja Vu, V2: Vertical Velocity, Great America Railway (7th only) - Deja Vu wasn't catching on the second spike, even though they tried many times. - V2 got struck by lightning last week, and they are probably waiting for parts. Some intresting points: - Raging Bull was running all three trains the entire time I was there. It was a great ride, though the brakes were on a little harder than normal. - On Sunday, the park was packed. Raging Bull's line was anywhere from 45 minutes - 1 hr. 15 min. However, several rides still has short lines. (Iron Wolf, American Eagle, Demon) even with two major rides down. - Monday wasn't too busy. The longest we waited for Raging Bull was 20 minutes. - Demon and Whizzer were running three trains on Sunday, however, they went back to two train operation on Monday, because the third train wasn't needed. - Iron Wolf was running very smoothly on Sunday! It was the best ride I ever had on it. There was very little roughness during the entire ride. We were in the front row. However, I had the worst ride on it on Monday. It was very bad. But the smooth ride ride was totally amazing, and it shows what Iron Wolf was really designed to be- a top ten steel. However, roughness has it towards the bottom of the list. - American Eagle (forwards) was flying on both days! Holy cow! The brakes were on very light at the top and bottom of the helix, and a ton of airtime was there. Tip: Go in the front row of American Eagle. Usually it doesn't have much more of a wait, and, you get a ton of air and a smooth (and awesome) ride. The front car does a 'wheelie' type thing at the beginning of the lift. It kind of jumps up on the left side, which scares the shit out of some the guests. - I think American Eagle is going to get a total refurbishment during the off-season, for its 25th birthday. One of the blue trains had a different design on the side, with on row having flames made of metal. There were also several test patches of paint throughout the ride, and on some of the trains. - To those who think Whizzer is going: I don't think it is. People reported several trees being cut down. It is only for an access road to the Waterpark. Also, it got one of the new safety signs, so it's probably not going anywhere. - Yankee Clipper/Ice Mountain Splash was running the entire time I was there. It's a different kind of log flume, and has a pretty crazy jump at the end of the ride. - Sadly, Viper has been giving some pretty bad rides lately. However, I'm happy to report that it's back up and running to its usual (amazing) standards. And now there is a grouper that only lets a certain amount of people in the station, which is awesome, so the station doesn't get too busy. - The staff seem to be a lot more friendly this season. They always ask how your ride was, and some do other things that really enhance the experience. - Don't expect either Deja Vu or V2 to be running anytime soon. They both are having some serious issues. - I hope everyone who is meeting with Robb and Elissa have a good time! Enjoy one of the best Six Flags park. As I say, it's the Six Flags park that doesn't feel like a Six Flags park. (In a good way.)
  10. Question: Does California Screamin' have the magnetic brakes or just the regular old Schwarzkopf-style pinch brakes? I'm very intrested to read the report (when it comes out) about this accident. Anyways, this was in the article: Doughty said Disney considers itself to be the overall manufacturer of its attractions, starting with design work conducted by Disney engineers. Disney views Intamin AG as a subcontractor for California Screamin'. I don't see how Intamin could be a subcontractor for that ride. I mean, Intamin designed the entire thing! (Other that the computer system.)
  11. I think Revenge of the Mummy (USF) has some really good fire effects. Like when Imhothep is on the screen, there's a ton of fire that just sets off, same with the ceiling that gets lit on fire.
  12. This one's kind of funny. I know the poster's bad, but I only used Paint! Sorry, but I just had to set it as my avatar. Ride Another Day Starring Robb as James Bond Elissa as Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson (intresting name ) Dan as Gustav Graves Gregg as Zao Kristi as Miranda Frost Okay... normally it would be Die Another Day, but I changed it a little. Ride Another Day... coming soon.
  13. The Not-So Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Marine World. Avatar size Not-So Vertical Velocity
  14. I live there, where it happened. (Well, probably about two miles away from that city.) It was a little scary, but a little more than an hour after the incident, this Ferris Wheel was re-certified for operation. There was no problem, at all, with the wheel.
  15. In one hour I have to go to marching band. (Yay... I guess.) But our conductors are a ton of fun, and we've got 227 people in our Marching band. (Over 1/5 of our school is in it.) Right now it's about 93F, with the heat index at 102. Yes... gotta love midwest weather. Oh, it's Hawaiian day at marching band today. We have to dress up. Here we are: http://www.pleasval.k12.ia.us/highschool/Band/Spartan%20Marching%20Band.htm
  16. I don't know... nothing really makes me get more energy. Soda just doesn't do anything, nor does tea or coffee. Orange juice does a little. However, water seems to make me have a little more energy; probably just because it's my drink of choice. I get Target brand water for less than $.17/bottle. It's cheap and tastes really good (like Aquafina.) Water is my drink of choice. Strange, but it's the best for me. (I guess other than Green Tea which supposedly is really super healthy.)
  17. Let's see what pre-80's coasters I've ridden: -Tornado (Adventureland, IA) -Demon (SFGAm) (Half '76/'80, I think it counts.) -Corkscrew (Cedar Point) -Gemini (Cedar Point) -Python (Busch Gardens Tampa) -Thunderbolt (SFNE) I wasn't alive pre-80's, but my favorite coasters from that era: Wooden- Tornado, Adventureland, IA Steel- Gemini, Cedar Point
  18. Splash Mountain: Everybody's got a laughing place to go-go-go-woah! You are a romp through folk lore from the old south, a cheery log ride that is always pleasant despite such unfortunate circumstances like a five story drop into a briar patch that proves to be more fun than scary. You are casual, friend, warm, and inviting, if a little reckless, it's always a zip-ee-dee-do-dah day for you even when you get yourself into some mighty steep trouble. What movie you sprung from, Disney doesn't like to tell, some consider it racist, but never you mind, the critters inside of you (previously stars of 'America Sings') are always cute and you are just here to have a good time. You love the camera and you live life to your fullest, your thinking is that if 'you WILL get wet' you might as well sieze the day! I'm happy with that... I'm not the Tram!
  19. I'd probably say Demon at Six Flags Great America is the roughest one, however, it's still a really fun ride. If they would just reprofile the the drop off the midcourse/entrance to corkscrews, it would be fun. That's the only rough spot, but it's very bad. Suprisingly, Shockwave was very smooth for my ride. It was also very intense, and very smooth. It was as smooth as Kraken at Sea World (I know, unbelievable.) But, I'm telling you, if you sit in the back car of the Arrow multi-loopers, it's smooth. (I think the trailer is back there, which makes it smoother.) I guess that technique also works on Ninja at SFOG. Can anyone confirm that? In comparison, I've been on: Shockwave, Six Flags Great America Demon, Six Flags Great America Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Cedar Point Gemini, Cedar Point Corkscrew, Cedar Point Magnum XL-200, Cedar Point Python, Busch Gardens Tampa
  20. I play: Bass Clarinet/Clarinet (Bass Clarinet in concert band, clarinet in marching.) I can also play: Percussion Piano
  21. Sounds like you guys are going have a good time. I'm going the 7th and 8th with my church, and the 12th for marching band. I'll post a TR after I go.
  22. Favorite: Rue Le Dodge at Six Flags Great America Least Favorite: Ubanga Banga at Busch Gardens Tampa. They're so slow, it's very sad.
  23. I'm up for it. However, the "RCT Tennis" thing that Angry_Gumball suggested on the bottom of the first page sounds cool. We could probably make a "TPR Park" then, and each have our own mark on it.
  24. While it seems like Disney has been having quite a few accidents lately, look at the types of ones that have been happening. Most of them are very isolated (effect one person) and not the ride's fault. (That goes for the Mission: Space and ToT.) This accident is a more major one; thank god that no one is hurt too badly. It will probably take a while to reopen the ride, given the California court ruling regarding 'common carriers.'
