Your first Arrow Dynamics coaster
GigaG replied to stashua123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it would be Iron Dragon, when I became tall enough. My first coaster with a 48" restriction was Magnum, I believe. I'm not sure what I rode first - CCMR or Corkscrew, but I would guess CCMR. Corkscrew introduced me to "Arrow headbanging" -
Honestly, there is no coaster in SFMM "not worth riding" as the only coaster that can be painful is Green Lantern. Revolution & Viper have headbanging, but its more that they can be uncomfortable rather than painful. If I were you, I would ride both Revolution & Viper to see for myself on what they are like. How is Green Lantern painful? Does the restraint push into you?

Favorite pre- 1980's coaster
GigaG replied to CP_fan_boy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Over 25 years old? Well in that case, probably Magnum in two years ! Over 25 years is before 1988, though this thread was made in 2005, where over 25 years is pre- 1980 Seriously, let me think of a few Wood-Blue Streak, Thunderhawk @ Dorney was pretty good too. Steel-Gemini, the older Arrow loopers with ejector airtime (Corkscrew @ CP included) Its been so long since I've been on a Schwarzkopf, but I will probably be going on Mindbender @ SFOG soon. -
I'm sorry, but what is "PP". I love Millenium Force's drop and Maverick's drop. Diamondback has a good drop (I think), as does, well, any other coaster with airtime over the drop.

What was your first B&M Coaster?
GigaG replied to thrillseeker4552's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not totally sure, but probably (in this order) Inverted - Raptor Hyper - Diamondback Stand-up - Mantis Floorless - Dominator Giga (if you count this as seperate) - Leviathan Wing - Not yet, almost certainly will be GateKeeper I don't think I've been on any other model of B&M -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
GigaG replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Agreed - Adventure express has a good and bad ending at once. YOU WILL PAYYYYYY!!!!... Welcome back riders! Best - Magnum (EJECTOR AIRTIME) Beast (though the train could use more of its momentum, its still unique) Maverick - Speedy throughout the ride, launching midway through with the last element being a bunny hop Lamest - Gatekeeper kinda seems like it crammed the inversions into the first part of the ride, but hopefully the helix and bunny hop are good. Volcano - The largest drop is straight into the brakes. Both - Raptor's intense finale helix (good) sends you into what was described earlier in this thread as a "car-crash" ending - not lame, just cruddy -
Can someone explain to me who this Ice Queen is? "A person of some importance"? Any relation to Ice Bat? She is the president of Magic Mountain - the head honcho who took over for Jay Thomas when he moved to Dallas corporate. She was at the podium at the reopening of Superman several years ago when I was present. That podium was made of ice and was melting in the sun that morning. IMO, her personality is icy too. She rarely (if ever) speaks to guests and employees for that matter. Just the "polar opposite" of Jay. I'm really not sure if that is her in the picture. It's hard to tell. Bummer, I hope she has some good qualities? Jay Thomas is a great guy, he was the supervisor of my supervisor when I was an intern at SFOT waaaay back in 1995. The next time I saw him was at SFKK in 2007, about an hour before "the accident." He was wearing a tie by then, but hadn't lost his Texas charm (as in being truly interested in what a guest has to say). Was "the accident" when the girl's feet got cut off on the drop tower?

Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
GigaG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maverick was advertised as a family coaster with a 48" height restriction, but it was changed. Really ticked me off - I was younger then and wasn't yet 52", but I would have been tall enough if the restriction didn't change. I'm tall enough to ride essentially anything now, but I hate it when rides have different restrictions despite identical restraints. Sometimes it is proportional to intensity or size, while other times it is seemingly random and only based off of the company. Cheetah Hunt - 48" (I think) Maverick - 52" I305 - 54" Most small Arrow Loopers - 48" Vortex (KI) (closest thing to viper besides missing a loop) - 48" Viper (SMMM)- 54" The only different thing about Viper (never been on it, so correct me if I'm wrong) is the larger handle. Then there are random ones- SFOT Runaway Mine Train - 42" Cedar Creek Mine Ride - 48" -
What is the most G-Force you have pulled?
GigaG replied to XYZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
By any chance, what app? And zero? Zero should be floater airtime, right? Maverick is insane ejector style airtime, in my experience. -
Why all the screaming, Robb?
GigaG replied to douggw's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like the play-by-play and I wish that it would be on even more TPR videos. Especially stuff along the lines of "TWISTTTYYYYY!!!!" -
What is the most G-Force you have pulled?
GigaG replied to XYZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry to bump, but does anybody know the maximum negative G-force on Maverick? -
^How tall is Corkscrew's loop? The drop height wouldn't be accurate because the second hill goes lower - is there even a drop height out for Corkscrew? I just thought Viper and came back to correct myself to find you guys answered already. Thanks! Anyways, why do Arrow lifts make that clank-clank-clank noise combined with the clunk-clunk-clunk noise (can't describe it any way else, and sorry for going so far off topic...)
-
OK! On another note, do any Arrow coasters have a lift straight out of the station (without turning first?)
-
Apparently, Shuttle Loops by Arrow are 56 feet tall, and the loop looks like the highest point.
-
The wikipedia article for Viper- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viper_(Six_Flags_Magic_Mountain) states that Arrow never changed the heights of their loops, only the height at which the loop started. How tall was an Arrow loop excluding the rise up into it (like Viper and Anaconda.)

Weird Roller Coaster Dreams
GigaG replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I had a dream that had something to do with Cedar Point. At one point I was in the air looking at Avalanche Run - parts of it were colored like Avalanche Run, but it was much taller. It was partially enclosed, with most of the building beige like DT, but I think some of it was teal. I think I rode it, and the first drop was not on bobsled track, it was on the guide track like on the MCBRs or lift. The lift was enclosed, but the drop (which I think was teal like Avalanche Run) was outdoors, and the drop was huge (think Phantom's Revenge, but more oddly shaped and maybe taller - it could have been a hyper or giga coaster, but none of the other parts of the layout were anything like that. The drop, of course, was curved like the real DT. After this, the ride went into some buildings in the parking lot, just like DT's building, but in a parking lot. At least the first section of the building had no floor and there were cars parked under it as if the building was just placed in the parking lot with cars still parking in it. The ride was not dark inside. There was a 270 degree upward right helix at one point, and I think the building may have had a divider wall it passed through before that. I don't remember anything else. I remember reading about DT at one point in the dream and it said something along the lines of the coaster being too large and un-bobsled-like for a 3500-foot long bobsled (the real DT was 1,932 feet). -

Mass ride removal trends
GigaG replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If they remove Corkscrew and NOT replace it, they better keep the actual corkscrews over the midway intact, like they did with Corkscrew at Alton Towers. Personally, I think that that is kinda sad just to keep the corkscrews in place with no trains, and just dead ends. Now, here is another pipe dream, but what if whatever company that build Corkscrew's successor could build track to match the Arrow track and build the corkscrews into the new ride? -

The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall
GigaG replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love Blue Streak's airtime. It is 78 feet tall, but its drop is 72 feet, so it is only halfway eligible. Still, you can't say that there isn't epic airtime, especially going out! EDIT:MISTAKE!
