  1. I was attempting to confirm a rather unusual Darwin Award, trying to use Google Images. Rather than a picture of the innapropriate injury, I came across a picture (the first image on the page) of a roller coaster among pictures that you don't want to see. Apparently, in Detroit, some guy was treated for ear problems, when he turned his head as a roller coaster "hit 120 miles per hour. This seems to be an accident on TTD. Has anybody else heard of an unusual accident on a coaster? http://healthland.time.com/2010/05/04/man-injures-ear-turning-to-chat-on-rollercoaster/
  2. The 3 coasters besides the mine train are listed on RCDB as under construction, we know the Worm Coaster was open, were Stress Express and Terror Twister? ON RCDB they have different names. http://www.rcdb.com/10707.htm
  3. On the GateKeeper announcement- -I'm hoping they mean X-Flight...
  4. Have you ridden any of these, TetsuneSonic? Has anybody ridden these? I have some hope these won't be as crappy as they look, but they ARE knockoffs, the water coaster looks like a Mack coaster (I think that's what I'm thinking of?)
  5. Today, Space Spiral ride ops said it was the last day of the ride. RIP. I heard DT will be completely demolished within 2 weeks, I think from my mom, who talked to either the SS ride ops or somebody at the announcement.
  6. That dive loop looks inclined to me, like Hydra. It might invert more than Hydra, but depending on how this turns out, it might just be an inclined dive loop like Hydra, which I don't consider an inversion.
  7. What is "TLC"? Sorry, but I just don't know. Are wheel seats only the back rows on Magnum/Gemini or are they the front too?
  8. I know that... that was the heartline roll, not the transition out of the tunnel. I thought you were talking about when the train curves out of the launch.
  9. The only proper way to ride should be to sit down and enjoy. There shouldn't be any work done to properly ride a coaster just so it can be enjoyable. I agree, I like to ride with my arms up and not have to think about or anticipate the ride. I like to let the ride "have it's way with me." Maverick was the first ride of this type that has the Intamin "QDC - quick direction changes." I'm not a fan of those at all. Yes, the I305 restraints would be an improvement for Maverick. Can you imagine how painful this ride could've been in it's original configuration? There was some QDC coming right out of the acceleration tunnel that was removed before the ride was opened. Intamin re-profiled that curve so it "wouldn't be too rough on the trains." What would that have done to the riders??? I've got high hopes for the new ride being announced at the Point on Monday. I didn't like their last coaster - Maverick soon to be almost 6 years ago... I thought the heartline roll was the only part that was reprofiled, the tunnel exit is already one of the quickest direction changes on the ride and I can't imagine it being any quicker. Is there any news/pictures about the "QDC" reprofiling out of the tunnel? I only remember the ride opening was delayed and Intamin was working "overtime" to make it rideable for the "trains." I'm very sure it was the release from the LIMS at the end of the tunnel. Why did you guess the end of the tunnel? Don't you know the heartline roll was redone? How do you know about the end of the tunnel. Also, I think Maverick uses LSMs, not LIMs.
  10. And also, I found a really weird one (Can't find it now) with some person asking about if they should take ecstasy pills before they go to a theme park... You would not believe how often a friend of mine who did security for SFNE from '06-'09 caught teenage couples trying to have sex in the park. Some of the places they managed to find baffled even him. What places?

You would not believe how often a friend of mine who did security for SFNE from '06-'09 caught teenage couples trying to have sex in the park. Some of the places they managed to find baffled even him. What places? And did he catch any of them in the act? Or did he just catch them before they began doing it?

  13. That is a post from Kings Island. Here are the replies I think are GP-like- My response - So the train compresses like an accordion whenever it goes? Seriously, I doubt it is "gone" already, physically at least.
  14. I thought of this thread (or maybe just something similar) and wanted to share my experiences last night. There was a lightning storm at Cedar Point last night. It was making no sound, so my friend said it was heat lighting (which I really did not know what it was). It was windy, the rides were still running, and we decided to ride Magnum. The first ride, lightning flashed as we crested the lift hill (first row, last car, or third-to-last row), but the ride was otherwise normal aside from the lightning (which may have also flashed during the ride), and we didn't really give another thought. Running over the trims, we hardly heard anything besides a brief noise, indicating the trims were low or off. The airtime on the return seemed normal - my friend does not believe in the "ejector seat", and we tried it once, and the airtime was not that much better, but I wished I could get a ride there without trims. The ops let us stay on, but just as our train engaged the lift hill, there was a huge flash in the sky, and this time... BANG!!! Now, we realize this is a real, nearby thunderstorm that could fry us if we were closer. As we raced towards the turnaround, my friend compared it to a train to death. Lake Erie seemed to fade into a pitch-black horizon. That was one of the freakiest park experiences ever. Would I be allowed to post this in the Cedar Point thread along with a mini-trip-report?
  15. http://www.rcdb.com/10883.htm That looper is the same company building the SLC and 11-looper at Jingling Happy World (I think?).
  16. New blog post- The attatched image says "How do you recover from a DISASTER?" http://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/81312 It looks like the winged logo is behind bars, could it be a theme of a monster let loose? Or, the text leads me to believe it could be a successor to DT, with a disaster theme not unlike Swarm.
  17. There are currently two pictures of the actual demolition. Both are here - http://pointbuzz.com/Photos/Gallery.aspx?id=680 You can see that the whole ride from the main part of the building almost to the last turn is gone, with a crushed piece of tube nearby. You can see the support structures of the final room leading into the brake run.
  18. So far, for me, Raptor. What Raptor trims are you talking about? Are you talking about the MCBR after the cobra roll? Anyways, Raptor has some of the most intense positive G-forces at CP, in my opinion. Mantis has high positive G's that can push the restraints down a bit after the dive loop- and I cant imagine how it would be operating like this- Or the opening year, that first section is even more insane-looking-
  19. It would fit well, but I don't see how that would help round out the park. Inside Wild Things turnaround would be a better fit anyways. I read the park had to get special permission for Wild Thing and Power Tower, but I'm sure if they could get permission for Power Tower, they can get permission for a slightly shrunken Windseeker.
  20. If they had, say, a long straight section before the splashdown trough, they could have a gentle deceleration before ramming into a foot of water vagina-first, minimizing injuries. As in, have a shallow, inch - deep trough run comparable to the normal slide that leads into the pool or splash lane, giving an opportunity to slow down so the water does not damage the female anatomy.
  21. This is a game where you have to guess a roller coaster, but not with pictures. You have to give hints - 3 to 5 is good, but really hard challenges might need more. I'll start with a fairly easy - medium one- -It shares a paint scheme with several other coasters in the chain of parks. -It is a rather uncommon type of ride. -It exerts high G-forces.
  22. If you think this report is moronic, what about the report that compared the Texas Giant being evacuated to somebody being ejected from a roller coaster? Unrelated, but just shows how the news does not always know what they are reporting about- http://www.ktnv.com/news/national/125433198.html
  23. ^Could a decent-length dueling wing coaster coast $20-$25 million dollars? The largest wing coaster - Wild Eagle - was 20 million. Somebody made their estimate of a Cedar Point wing coaster on Youtube- It is a length of 4250 feet, if this layout is true. Given this layout, I'm going to do some math - the approximate average cost of a wing coaster per foot- Wild Eagle - 20 million usd - 6395.91 per foot X-Flight - 12-15 million according to Wikipedia, I'll use the high estimate - 5000 per foot Swarm- 20 million pounds - 31,284,000 USD (Expensive?) - 12302 per foot No word on the price of Raptor, so 12302+5000+6395.91 is 23697.9 (rounded from 23697.91) , and 23697.9/3 is about 7899.3 So 4250 times 7899.3 is 33,572,025, so ONE wing coaster would be over budget. However, the converted figure for Swarm seems expensive, so let's do MORE averaging, using only the American wing coasters. 6395.91+5000 = 11395.9 So the American average is $5697.95. $24,216,287.5 would be the approximate cost of a 4,250 foot wing coaster. Therefore, a racing wing rider would be a whopping $48,432,575. Something tells me selling DT and Wilcat for scrap wouldn't make that up... So, if the $25 million includes the construction cost, we'll probably see under 4,250 feet of track, considering I'd think it would take more than 800,000 dollars to demolish DT, but who knows? As for a "junior" wing rider, LOL. B&M hasn't made any junior coaster yet, but something tells me that a junior Wing Rider is a somewhat decent idea.
