  1. YOLOcoaster? I'm curious about what other words this forum changes for the sake of humor. Is there a list?

  3. Besides the half-loop flat spike, that loop is tiny!
  4. So we know there are some messed up coasters. This post is dedicated to those in China and Japan (even knockoffs). Among the latest non-knockoffs is a Zamperla Motocoaster with a lift hill. http://rcdb.com/10835.htm?p=0 On a similar note, this one sounds like a knockoff Motocoaster- http://rcdb.com/10631.htm Here is a loop-screw with a double loop from our "friends" making that horrid-looking knockoff SLC and 11-inversion coaster (Hebei Zhongye Metallurgical Equipment Manufacturing Co.,Ltd, or 河北中冶冶金设备制造有限公司 in Chinese)- http://rcdb.com/10983.htm?p=0 This park also has a peculiar Zamperla junior Twister Coaster and what appears to be a Roller Skater knockoff. Or what about the Chance Toboggan knockoff, the only coaster made by Fun Xian Machinery Manufacturing Ranger Company- http://rcdb.com/10942.htm?p=40921 What is the most screwed up/unusual/knocked off coaster you have ever encountered?
  5. Because America is sue happy and parks are requesting less intense rides from them to appease the weak American public (this is also why we don't see too many Intamins being built in America along with their reliability issues). Well, we haven't seen the "sued for Vekoma/Arrow headbanging case", so I don't see why we have to be stuck with less intense coasters. If nobody has sued for headbanging, why would people sue for a bit more intensity? Many people go to an amusement park to ride intense coasters, and as long as signage clarifies the intensity, I don't see any more suing than the suing that is already going on.
  6. http://web006.westchestergov.com/articles/0901d.pdf Apparently, the ride was deemed safe after a similar model killed people in NJ (The Rye model had different anti-rollbacks), but the forces were too extreme when it came time to test according to RCDB. At Circle of Fun, Philippines This model, which appears to be the Venezuela one, has 3 cars per train instead of 5 Here is an unknown name (according to RCDB) model in Tunisia- Finally, POVs I can find of what I can assume is a traveling model- BTW- Could the mods fix the bad youtube links?
  7. On an unrelated note, was Rolling X-Train repainted and reprofiled? Compare this to this And which one was filmed earlier? TPR's was uploaded later, but which one was filmed earlier? I never knew Rolling X-Train was ever white...
  8. I believe Eagle's Fortress was closed "forever" a few years ago, but why haven't they demolished it yet? I'm hoping it can be saved, maybe somebody could find terrain that fits it? But considering how unusual it is layout-wise, and how it has been sitting for 3 years, its chances are slim to none IMO.
  9. Hey, could somebody provide us with the aforementioned photoshopped pic?
  10. I like Arrows for the coathanger track, at least when it provides airtime (Magnum, anybody?), and Vortex is a decent ride. I hope it doesn't go - I mean, other Arrow coasters are older than it, but I guess every ride gets torn down sometime.
  11. What are your worst restraints on a coaster? For me, it is Wicked Twister at CP. At 180 lbs and 5 foot 1.5, if I have a some layers on in winter, I can hardly fit in. Even without layers, I'm sure I would be pretty tight in and unable to experience much of the the zero-g on the spikes. Also, there is the Arrow headbanger restraints and shoulder harnesses on cosaters that don't need them (Intamin rides such as I305 or KK). Any restraints you don't like?
  12. FoF's MCBR does slow the ride quite a bit, but the ride bangs your head back and forth on the headrest WITH the MCBR. Also, I believe that FoF used to have music in the ride building (IDK if either one still does). I've been on very few indoor coasters. The ones I have been on are- Disaster Transport (RIP) Runaway Mountain Both FoFs I believe this is the extent of indoor coasters I've been on. I don't remember much about Runaway Mountain, and I can't really pick favorites considering I'm biased towards DT, seeing as it was in my home park. Still, FoF is obviously the more thrilling ride.
  13. Don't LIMs need prior movement to generate acceleration, and therefore cannot work on a train at a halt? Like a drive tire needs to start the train? I always wondered how Wicked Twister moved without apparent drive tires (would these be in some casings I'm assuming are LIMs?) I don't remember whether or not I saw drive tires on Flight of Fear at KI, but I think they were on the KI Backlot Stunt Coaster. Essentially, is it possible for a LIM to start a train without movement by another source, or is that limitation only inherent in LSMs and, in reverse, magnetic brakes (can't totally stop a train?)
  14. 1. First things first - why did Arrow go out of business? I'm guessing it was the advent of smoother coasters by other companies, but there is something I like about the classic Arrows - probably the violent ejector airtime prominent on Magnum, Gemini, and to an extent,Corkscrew (both at CP.) 2. This question is about KI - specifically Beast - and has several parts- a. I know the Beast has magnetic brakes as trims that essentially neuter the ride. I do not know the location of every brake, I know there are brakes- I. First drop II. Second drop III. Brake shed IV. Drop off of second lift hill Did I miss any trims? b. Where is the brake mechanism on the track? I havent't seen a magnetic mechanism on the Beast, just normal fin brakes. 3. Finally, what are the conditions that trim brakes are likely to be turned off or the effects be nullified on any roller coaster, in general. I know Magnum's are known to shut off in the wind (I think), is wind and/or rain a common anti-trim condition?
  15. I know next to nothing about BTMR, but is it a possibility that these magnets were put on the ride after the ride was actually built?
  16. Lets see- I was sad to see SoB go, but then again, it has been 4 years and I just felt sorry that I didn't get my last ride in 2009 because - get this - I thought the line was too long. Mean Streak is a good time waster when everything has a huge line, especially the one time in the rain when the trims were off and there was ejector air on the last hill before the MCBR. I'm also OK with riding Corkscrew @ CP and Vortex @ KI. Time Warp @ CW (Zamperla Volare) was fun to me. SLCs - I had a great experience on Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure (again, 4 years ago), making it one of my favorites there (Looking back, I thinkShivering Timbers, takes the cake. When I took the precaution of riding the older Flight Deck @ CW up front to reduce headbanging, it was a fun ride. That was more recent. My research shows that Thunderhawk got new restraints and padding, however, so maybe it was that I was riding it in its first year of operation at its new park (I know that because I remember calling my dad back at home asking him about what Kings Island had just announced - Diamondback. It was also before I was 54 inches tall - 2008 being the last year I was that short - and unable to ride the Swan Boats at MI by myself.) I read something earlier in this topic about Vekoma flyers being bad, but Firehawk is awesome and quite smooth. Those padded restraints would make it hard to be a headbanger. I liked both of the Boomerangs I went on - Carolina Cobra at CW and the Boomerang at WoF. Carolina Cobra, of course, was great with the new trains, but somehow I liked WoF's, and I repeat-rode it a lot considering it had no line.
  17. About the Rick Mercer video- -He described it as an "altitude of 356" despite being told it was 306 earlier (though it may not have been filmed in this order, you'd think that the info would be accurate.) Because the 2 digits at the beginning and end were the same, I'm guessing this was a mistake. He could have been acting like a pilot talking about a flight level (356 being 35,600 feet, if memory serves), but the digits make it seem like it was a mistake, plus the fact that if he really was a pilot, I don't think he would address the passengers with flight level, considering that many passengers might not know. -He referred to the overbank as "going upside down". -He also said "the Leviathan", which isn't a big deal to me - heck, I'd probably refer to it as "the Leviathan" occasionally, so I don't really care. However, I know that some guys here are picky about placing "the" before a coaster name, so just saying.
  18. Probably Thunderhawk at Dorney.
  19. Cedar Point varies. Most of the time it is no, but there are some rare exceptions- Morning Raptor ERT with no line - sometimes, but not always MF if the line isn't past the handicap access gate (IDK if this usually happens during general hours or just ERT), and Dragster extremely rarely, maybe during ERT? These are not staying on, but rather walking around a very short distance, I believe. A slow day once got me 4 rides in a row on Corkscrew (Yes, I know that seems crazy) and 2 in a row on Iron Dragon - without getting off. Corkscrew was only running one train (white to be specific). However, on most rides, you will get a response along the lines of "sorry, you need to go back around", etc. Blue Streak is an example - even with no line, they will force you to go around. Same with Wicked Twister.
  20. Steel - TTD Wood - SoB - if that doesn't count due to it being defunct, then Mean Streak.
  21. "Mother fudger?" Are you kidding me? It must be the forum filter - it says the actual word (not "fudge") on the YouTube comment.
  22. Does it prevent you from enjoying the ride? If there isn't the aspergerlicious obsession with counting and rating every ride, what's the point of this hobby??? I'm actually diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (if I'm even interpreting your post right, is this what you are talking about?), although that has been doubted.
  23. http://www.coastercounter.com/#Shoot_The_Rapids For SOME reason, Coaster Counter counts it as a credit... I don't like it when a park builds a ride that is just one unpowered hill away from being a roller coaster. Example - Pilgrim's Plunge vs DiVertical.
  24. I was in line for the last row of Millennium Force this morning (Platinum Pass/resort ERT). Somebody mentioned that they wanted to know the height and speed, so I gave them some basic statistics (310 feet tall, 300 foot drop at an 80 degree angle, approx. 93 mph), and somebody mentioned something about 1,000 feet, I think they said something about being able to ride this if they rode something else, the 1,000 foot coaster, maybe? I said there is no such thing as a 1,000 foot coaster. They replied that Expedition Everest is 1,000 feet tall. I replied the mountain was 200 (really 199, I think, but I rounded) feet tall, and before I could say anything about how high the actual track goes (112 feet, 80 foot highest drop), I think the person I talked to said that the track is 1,000 feet tall, above the mountain.
  25. Was 12-E collapsed or something? I guess we'll find out when that person posts the next weekly timelapse (look on PointBuzz, I think in the GateKeeper forum). On another note, how many lateral g-forces does Maverick pull in the QDCs (quick direction changes)
