  1. ^Hopefully, they will get their crap together for the 11 inversion coaster.
  2. NEWS - 11 Inversion coaster delayed- http://www.rcdb.com/9821.htm The name is revealed as "Journey to the Stars" and it is delayed to 2013, apparently. The Golden horse "Surfing Boat" water coaster - http://www.rcdb.com/10461.htm - is apparently open, but no pictures. The fake SLC is still not open, according to RCDB- http://www.rcdb.com/10226.htm
  3. Roughest Woodies - Mean Streak (before this year, this year it is pretty decent), Texas Giant (as a woodie, of course, never ridden the new version), Thunder Road at Carowinds was cruddy in my opinion, the Mighty Canadian Minebuster at Canada's Wonderland was horrible. I remember going to Kings Dominion - I forgot my complete opinion on Grizzly, but from what I remember, it sucked. From what I remember, Son of Beast was cruddy - then again, I haven't ridden it in 3 or 4 years (stupid SBNO!) Steel - Before I go to the actualy bad ones, I want to give my experience with a ride normally known as complete crud, but in my experience not too bad I've been on two SLCs, Thunderhawk (Michigan's Adventure) and Flight Deck (Canada's Wonderland). I rode Thunderhawk back in 2008 or so, and it is holds the distinction of the only ride I've ever chickened out on (walking through to the exit). When I did ride it, it became my favorite ride there, and we rode it 9 or 10 times in a row before we left. It was not bad at all in my opinion, with little headbanging. I've been on Flight Deck, which wasn't quite as smooth. Despite a slow-as-a-snail line, we decided to wait a bit more for the front row. It was a little bumpy, but nothing too horrible, but then again it was the front. Therefore, my experiences with SLCs are not too bad. The actually worst steel coasters are probably Arrow loopers - Vortex at KI was OK the first time we rode, but the next year, it was crap. Corkscrew in the back seat at Cedar Point was bad (and it will probably bang your head in most, if not all seats), and its Valleyfair sister (I forgot what sat on that one) was not nice either. I can't recall much more.
  4. As far as I know, the trims on top of the hill were not the original setup - there were originally no trims at all, right?
  5. On a 100% unrelated note, wasn't Magnum re-profiled so the pull-out of the hill before the turnaround would not be so intense? I think so, and the pretzel turn looks different, too. Here is a video before the trims and modification, and after. Before - Now - On another note, what are those extensions of the ties off the edge of the track on the first drop? And when is it most common for the trims to be off - I think they were on at CoasterMania because I heard the noise as we went over them. Also, I heard the trims used to be on the top of the third hill (in the new video, you can still see where they were mounted). I find it lucky that the trims are after it now, because trimming the top of the 3rd hill probably got weakened some of the sudden burst of airtime.
  6. I liked this thread and I want to post my experiences. Positive vertical - I've been on Titan @ SFOT and Shockwave @ SFOT when I was younger, I believe Millenium Force's first drop made me briefly grey out (more like purple-out) a long time ago. As for a non-coaster, I don't know, maybe the Witches Wheel at Cedar Point (Enterprise). I've been on I305, but it was trimmed at the time. Negative Vertical - MF and Maverick in the back seat, and Magnum in some seats (the backseat is intense, but I've heard row 3, car 1 is intense). As for on a non-coaster, probably an S&S ride - Power Tower at Cedar Point's intensity varies depending on which tower - one of the drops seems to be more intense than the other. The mid-sized Detonator @WoF and the rather tiny Space Shot at Huntsville's U.S. Space and Rocket Center pack a large punch - both are S&S launch towers. Also, the enlcosed Trabant/Wipeout-style ride at Worlds of Fun (Cyclone Sam) has insane airtime and wind effects to add to the experience. Accelerational - Probably TTD for coasters. As for non-coasters, the Rotor-style ride at Worlds of Fun, Roundup-style rides at Worlds of Fun and Gravitron-style rides (one at a fair and another at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville) come to mind. And if you can get a Balloon Race or spinning cups ride moving, you can get good centrifugal force. As for deceleration, I know that on the Cedar Point Wildcat (RIP) they told you to grab the lap bar before the sudden stop. at the unloading platform Laterals - Beast and wild mice. On a non-coaster, some rapidly spinning rides will do, such as a Trabant/Wipeout (Notably Cyclone Sam at Worlds of Fun), a scrambler (especially the one that came to my local fair). Also, on most Arrow loopers, there is a lot of rapidly changing lateral force from the neck up! Also, what is the maximum negative force on El Toro?
  7. Laser GateKeeperHawk Beating a dead-horse on fire?
  8. I don't think that's going to happen. KD is already the park with the most launched coasters in the world. Having yet another one would be pointless... I think Cedar Point is tied for most launched coasters - Maverick, Wicked Twister, TTD. KD has Volcano, FoF, and Backlot Stunt Coaster.
  9. ^^^Where were those bolts? When did you take the picture?
  10. Again - I heard Bryan Edwards say DT will be scrapped.
  11. Today's Sandusky Register says Snake River Falls closed due to unspecified injuries of a boy. This was mentioned in a blog post from the Register but besides that, I've only heard this in the newspaper. Apparently, the ride is cleared to operate but CP is keeping it down for maintenance.
  12. Sorry but at coastermania I heard an employee named Bryan Edwards say DT will end up scrapped.
  13. When I went to Cedar Point a few years ago (during multiple visits) it was actually the opposite! Everyone seemed to be in line for the drop side (at least 30 minutes), while I gallantly walked onto the shot side (station wait.) I much prefer the shot side. I don't think I've ever seen a longer line for the shot side. Maybe I have but I think that it's almost always the drop side with the longer line. Let's talk drop side for a bit. There is a whoosh of air from the drop side before the drop. Out of these two towers, one waits for a while before shooting down and the other drops rather immediately. The one that waits longer is more intense, in my opinion. I forgot which is which exactly. On another note, I saw a kid pee his pants in line for Power Tower's drop side. He was right in front of us and we had to step around the HUGE amount of urine that this kid unloaded. They hosed down the area but not the area he dripped on walking through and leaving the line. Therefore, we had to worry about our seat on the ride having urine dripped in front of it.
  14. This "Rocky Mountain Oyster" element rolls rapidly. Wouldn't it be more comfortable for it to just roll over and plunge down the turn? Less lateral gs and more world records! I can't wait to see the rest of the layout.
  15. I'm quite young, so I don't really have a lot of these long stories, but here are the ones I do have. Long ago, I saw Son of Beast on a show, saying how it was the only looping woodie and stuff. I got to ride several years later - after the loop was removed. I went to Cedar Point when I was 2 or 3, and my parents always tell the story of how I threw a fit about not getting to ride Wicked Twister (not understanding the concept of the "height restriction). I got to ride it when I was 10 or 11, so about 8 or 9 years. Same with a bunch of other CP rides, as I go, like 10 to 20 times a year, and I used to be rather short, so it was a long wait to ride some of the bigger rides.
  16. This is an ideology with which I disagree. As long as it's not blatantly stupid or flame war inducing, why should we frown upon speculation? It builds the anticipation. It's fun to predict what they are going to call it. It's not harmful, so why should it be something that we should not do? I for one would have named this the Switchback Roll. Because of the likelihood that TPR will have already decided what to call it by the time the official moniker is revealed and the wrong name will stick... or just be stupid. Like NTAG. Sorry, but I hate "NTAG" as much as I love the actual ride. "Sharktopus" is freaking awesome as a concept, but sucks balls as the name of this element. IMHO, the element name should at least give you some kind of clue as to what it does. Sharktopus makes me expect something with legs sticking out or something. To that effect, "Inverted Camel" or "Inverted Camelback" fit the bill even though they don't have the pizazz of sharktopus or even super Stengel. Where did "NTAG" come from? Shouldn't it be NTG? What is the A? Airtime?
  17. What is the whole "movie screen" joke?
  18. Carolina Cobra @ Carowinds Boomerang @ WOF I don't think I've been on any more sit-down boomerangs, but I have been on Invertigo @ KI
  19. I don't really know, but I refuse to wait in long lines. Therefore, many of my line incidents are kinda funny as opposed to horror stories, such as... I've seen two vomiting incidents on Raptor - not the actual vomiting, but I was in line in the station both times and saw them hosing down the platform. The more recent time, I actually SAW the vomit dripping from the restraints. During that same incident, we were in line for that row (I believe the 2nd row) - they ran the puked-on train after hosing it to dry it. However, we were in the station, and because of the high B&M 4-across capacity, I think I got on a train before the return of the vomited-on one, but I still stepped around the puddles from the hosing to get into the car. I don't think I've had to wait for a vomit situation in the station on any ride but Raptor, and I don't remember anything about waiting in line for a vomit situation outside the station on any ride. I may have, but not remembered. I don't totally know. Still, interesting story, yes?
  20. Also, on a related note, is the "Rocky Mountain Oyster" more or less inverted than the "cutback" on Sky Rocket? More cutbacks to compare it to? Space Mountain : Mission 2 has a "Tongue" element, which I understand to be similar to a cutback, if not just another name. Let's do some research. This NL model suggests the "Tongue" to be a quick overbank, not an inversion - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4rBIOKt79c Can anybody confirm what exactly a "tongue" element is?
  21. I'm honestly not sure if it is an inversion. However, it's more than Hydra's inclined dive loop (and Dorney calls that an inversion). I'm not sure what to call this - cutbacks are a big gray area for me. Wouldn't it be epic if this coaster had another inversion somewhere else? I doubt it, but hey, speculation is OK!
  22. I was NOT expecting the Chiller to be relocated, especially to an international park!
  23. How fast is the Senzafiato accelerator coaster in Miragica in Italy. RCDB gives no figures for the speed or how the train accelerates. I want to know the speed and time it takes to get to the speed - can somebody help me?
