Fuji-Q Highlands Discussion Thread
MayTheGForceBeWithYou replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Currently studying Japanese, so I could understand quite a bit of the announcement. This portion is arguably the most interesting because it confirms what we've already been guessing: Translation: "In July 2017, [Dodonpa will] reappear with a new layout" -
I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, even though I've generally felt these movie rethemes are a huge gamble. Robb pointed out the transformation to Maelstrom that actually turned out pretty well, but then there's other things like Stitch's Great Escape that completely ruined what used to be there. If this falls into Frozen territory, it still has the potential to be awesome. I just really don't want another Stitch scenario that disregards what made the original ride good for the purpose of cashing in on the popular character/franchise of the day. Hey, maybe they'll be able to explain away the hallways this time around

First time I've really gone near anything Pokemon for about 15 years, and the servers are so overrun they won't even allow new accounts to be made.

IMPORTANT NOTICE It's been about a year since I first embarked on one of my most entertaining RCT3 adventures. It's been a lot of fun to take a struggling 70s fun fair and transform it into a full-fledged megaresort, and coming up on 7500 thread views, a fairly popular project for others to follow along with. Unfortunately, my computer isn't quite as much on board with making this park, and has been crashing a ton due to the substantial toll the park has been taking on the game's ability to run it. This has made it incredibly difficult to continue developing the park as I had intended, and I feel the best option is to give the game a break for the time being. That said, I had been working on a few other attractions prior to these issues that will allow me to share just a little more content. As such, I'll try to share as much as I can to bring the thread up to date before I pull the plug. With how the park currently stands, I can continue the park for 3 more seasons: following the 2004 season, the park will be placed on indefinite hiatus. I'd like to thank everyone that followed my updates and made this park one of the more popular RCT3 projects on the site, even if you were just lurking. Here's to hoping you've enjoyed the ride as much as I have.

July 2001 Hi folks! It's been a while, but today's the day I visit Kingdom of Legends, which has been very popular with visitors since it opened two weeks ago. I was cooped up with other work the last few weeks, so it's my first chance to visit this massively hyped new land! Shot0424.bmp From the parking area, we can see Fenrir looming across the pond... Shot0425.bmp Looking down Thunderbolt's midway toward an all-new section of the park... Shot0426.bmp New since my last visit in 1999 was this tea cup ride, which serves as a sort of entryway into the fantasy world of Kingdom of Legends. Shot0427.bmp And now we're in Asgard, and there's Fenrir in action! Fenrir's entrance is right near the Thunderbolt midway, so let's see if its bite is worse than its bark... Shot0429.bmp The queue (and part of the ride before the lift) cuts through the gods' armory...hopefully dealing with a being that heralds the end of time doesn't require any of these. Shot0430.bmp Going up... Shot0431.bmp Only got one shot during the actual ride...WOW, this thing has some kick! The turns and drops on this thing are completely wicked, and really live up to the "twister" moniker! Yet another fantastic coaster, and its prime location near the front of the park should keep this thing popular for years to come. Shot0435.bmp And here's Viking Voyage, the new Zamperla family ride! Shot0436.bmp Mid cycle. Even though it's pretty mild, families were just eating it up. Hopefully this rounds out some of the family additions in light of all the massive thrill rides they've been adding. Shot0437.bmp And speaking of new rides, this plot of land looked ready for something, but the sign just said "coming soon". I wonder what they could fit in there...

If we're allowed to include the Twitter updates...The debacle over the "fat chariots" comment was rather amusing.

After going to the Flower and Garden Festival a few weeks ago, three words: Beijing. Candied. Strawberries. -
November 1999 Well, the hype surrounding the teased expansion has been brewing for several months now, and yesterday they officially announced what everyone has been waiting for: I was expecting something big, but not something over multiple phases kind of big, and announcing it two years out! I can't wait to see where this goes, and if it goes well, I'll happily go along for the ride!

August 1999 Hey folks, I have some developments on something new coming to the park...remember this wall I showed a few years back? Well, similar to the manner in which Adventure Outpost and Anaconda were teased, this wall has a few teaser flyers tacked onto the wall: Additionally, like the teasing of Anaconda, speakers behind the wall play the sounds of clinking metal and a wolf's howl...I'm sure it will make sense when it's announced, but for now, I have no ideas. If this ends up as advertised, this could be really big! PS Thanks for nearly 6000 thread views!

June 1999 Ducked to the park today to see the two new rides, and they were definitely pretty fun! Tarantula was arguably a little too intense for me (not quite enough to make me lose my lunch...but very close), but Secret Vault was a really nifty experience. Enough to make your head spin, but not nauseating at all...it was a really cool effect! Anyway, onto the photos: Shot0423.bmp Into the Forbidden Forest once more, and boy has it grown! Shot0421.bmp First up: Tarantula, in all its nauseating glory! Shot0422.bmp The one photo I managed to snag mid cycle. Seriously, how do people even handle these kind of things? It's just crazy! Shot0419.bmp Hopefully Secret Vault will be a little nicer on my body... Shot0418.bmp Deep into the bowels of the Haunted Castle... Shot0417.bmp Inside the Vault itself as it spins around us. Really disorienting, but really neat! Had to keep the flash off, so apologies for the darkness. PS My game has been crashing a ton recently, so I probably won't be updating as often as I used to. I am NOT quitting, and I have content lined up for future updates. That said, polishing the new stuff up and documenting it has become a pretty big hassle for me. .-.

October 1998 Today, the park released its plans for 1999...two new flats for Forbidden Forest! I do like the addition of some new rides here and there to round out the selection each season, and I'd love to have this trend continue! Still, I can't help but wonder if they're stalling on adding something really major akin to Reaper or Anaconda. The next few years might be leading us toward something truly epic, if my foresight serves me well... PS Thanks for 5000+ thread views!

May 1998 Hello again, folks. I sadly missed the media previews, but I finally ventured out to the park today to try out Terminal Velocity and Sooper Looper. Definitely really solid additions...I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story! Shot0407.bmp Well, this is a striking new view from the parking lot! Shot0404.bmp It literally towers over the rest of the park. It's more than three times the height of Thunderbolt, about twice the height of Sky Jump, and about 80 feet taller than Anaconda! Shot0408.bmp Wrapping around the back end of Thunderbolt, we reach the base of Terminal Velocity's 230 foot tower. Shot0409.bmp The entrance sign. Time to hop in line... Shot0410.bmp Terminal Velocity's quite popular! Even for a weekday, it was about a half hour wait. Shot0413.bmp Welp, I'm strapped in...and it looks a lot bigger when you're actually on it! Shot0411.bmp The point of no return...going up! Shot0412.bmp At the top...and it's definitely quite the nerve wracking view from up here! Didn't take a photo from the drop, but it was insane! Shot0414.bmp Next up...Sooper Looper! Shot0415.bmp It's a refurbished portable ride...but that doesn't mean it's any less fun! Shot0416.bmp Closing this trip out with a return to a revamped classic...three car AlpenBlitz! As advertised, the line moved way quicker for this. The new third car is an absolute blast! All in all 1998 has shaped up very nicely!

Search your system for options.txt, and delete the one that's not in the folder your RCT3 is installed in (should be in something like AppData). This will slick your saved settings (not your parks; just the settings), but it will return the graphics to the default, and should let you boot the game again.

I don't want to talk you out of it entirely unless you're absolutely convinced the the park is too much to handle. Here's a couple pointers for you if you continue: -Make your rides more "real". Look at how actual rides are built, and their common layouts and elements. If you're aiming to make a PTC woodie, actually look at how those rides are paced and how they're laid out. I know the in-game track pieces can be limiting, but you can still make something fairly reminiscent of an actual coaster from your time period. If you're having trouble, there's some great rides in the Game Exchange you can use (you may want to credit the uploader, though). -Landscaping. Learn it. Use it. Love it. Trees, scenery, pretty much anything! Play around with the scenery in game and get comfortable with the various sets, or consider importing some custom scenery. Whatever you do, play around with the scenery and see what you can do with it! Don't leave your park bleak and empty. Add some more buildings and rides to fill in those giant voids and give your park some color and realism. Don't just go straight vanilla on everything, because it looks tacky. -Start your park small, and then go big. Working with less at first will make theming a much less daunting task as opposed to jumping straight into the big stuff and realizing you're in way over your head. It's important to note that the majority of your work in RCT3 isn't the rides: it's developing the surrounding area into an immersive environment that actually feels like a park. -Finish your park little by little. Focus on what needs to be spruced up and finished before you try to add more. Don't try to rush and overly expand; you'll only make everything look half-@ssed, even if you're trying to put effort in. It's acceptable to take your time. One of my projects was on and off (mostly off) for four years before I decided it was ready. More recently, I spent two weeks working on the first part of my timeline park before I shared it, and adding other parts of the park have demanded just as much time, or even more, for just two or three rides! It's a lot of time and work, but it's satisfying when it's done.
