Fuji-Q Highlands Discussion Thread

Still curious to see how people think the loop holds up in comparison to the insane airtime hill, but the faster launch already has me excited to check it out in July! -
When the initial pitch came out, I was completely against it and thought there was no way it was going to work. As much as I still hate the exterior and find the concept odd, the details I've seen from the inside actually make me kind of excited about this. Hell, some of the details are starting to make this sound like Tokyo's Tower gone sci-fi...and I'm hoping that comparison bodes well.

I think you're severely underestimating how much room it was taking up. With both Riptide and Boomerang gone, that opens up a plot about 350 feet long by about 100-150 feet wide. If they built into the path in front of Boomerang, they could extend that first figure up to about 400 feet. That's about the size of Xcelerator's footprint. It's more than enough room for a major coaster, even if Knott's was only limiting themselves to just that plot of land.

Park recently shared a video with some more details about the ride, including a few renderings of the infrastructure inside: [fbvideonew] [/fbvideonew]DIRECT LINK if the video plugin doesn't work. Based on their comments, they're still holding off releasing any specific info about the theming and effects. Hopefully they'll be willing to announce more details on that front in the near future, but either way, they're doing a great job of keeping everyone on their toes.

The angles on those joints don't seem very steep, so it looks like it's only the very bottom of the loop. Using YOLOCoaster for reference, I made a rough estimate of how much we're seeing now versus what could be coming: Based on that, I'm thinking this could be a lot bigger than we're making it out to be. -
Maps can be created in multiple game engines that could match the room's dimensions, pretty much every online game can render other player's positions, and if everyone is on one local connection, rendering the environment and other players' positions can be done in almost real time. It basically sounds like a VR LAN party. Done right, could be a really fun and interesting take on a rather old concept.

Just to let you know, timeline parks require a lot of effort and time to pull off properly. If you're outright acknowledging you don't know where you want to go with this, you might want to rethink it. If you do go through with it, I have a few suggestions that should help you out: -Landscaping. Learn it. Use it. Love it. Trees, scenery, pretty much anything! Play around with the scenery in game and get comfortable with the various sets, or consider importing some custom scenery. Whatever you do, play around with the scenery and see what you can do with it! Don't leave your park bleak and empty. Even with a baseline update like this, there should be some landscaping to help fill in what you're planning on doing. -Start your park small, and then go big. Working with less at first will make theming a much less daunting task as opposed to jumping straight into the big stuff and realizing you're in way over your head. Going with the giant tram route at this point might be a bit much. -Finish your park little by little. Focus on what needs to be spruced up and finished before you try to add more. Don't try to rush and overly expand; you'll only make everything look half-@ssed, even if you're trying to put effort in. -Figure out your story ahead of time. When I was working on my park, I made a point of thinking ahead 3 updates so I knew what to add, what to take screenshots of, and how to present them. Set a goal with where you want to go, then develop the story to work the park toward it. Trying to be as constructive as I can, but as it stands, this is looking pretty weak right now.

This sounds so wrong, yet so right at the same time. -
Worst Ride Name
MayTheGForceBeWithYou replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, no, no, no. Scream! Ride it Out Loud is the ride that Magic Mountain earned the exclamation point. -
Thanks for the kinda sorta confirmation on that. They did an awesome job with Terror-Dactyl at Cave of the Winds, so I'm excited to see what they'll do here (especially in conjunction with all the other things planned for it)! Other people here described the park as a nicer version of Ober Gatlinburg or Ghost Town in the Sky, but given the direction with the new developments, I think we could see them follow a similar vein as something like Silver Dollar City...definitely exciting!

To be fair, it's probably not going to be too far off the final product. In all seriousness, I did dig around a bit to see if I could piece together what kind of ride it will be based on what they were describing in the article. Given the way they're describing how it will operate, in conjunction with the involvement of Stan Checketts, my best guess at this point is a top-loading Soaring Eagle Daring Drop (shown in thumbnail, video starts at 0:43): Considering they only use seat belts, that could make this way crazier than it already was!

Theme Park Bucket list
MayTheGForceBeWithYou replied to witting's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Studying in Tokyo next summer, so I'm hoping to get to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea and Fuji Q. Really want to get to the latter when the revamped Dodonpa opens up.
