Best American B&M Inverted coaster
cal1br3tto replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I enjoy all B&M inverts, and it's getting hard for me to rank them. Do I like a certain ride better than others, or have I just gotten to know it better? Note that I don't hate Batmans; I've simply had mixed experiences with them. SFGAm's is my favorite because of the setting. I don't even necessarily look for intensity, just fun forces and inversions. 1. Flight Deck 2. Silver Bullet 3. Patriot 4. Batman: The Ride (SFGAm) 5. Batman: The Ride (SFStL) 6. Batman: The Ride (SFMM) Flight Deck is still an honorable mention for my top 10 steel list. -
I don't freak out over trims. Since I can't change the circumstances, I'd rather enjoy rides as they are when I ride them, even if they could be (and in some cases have been) better. I'll admit I think it would be great if trims didn't exist, but I know they're installed for a reason.

I haven't tried Pepsi Throwback or Pepsi Natural, but that's largely because I have very little interest in drinking soda. However, I do have a fondness for Mexican Coke. While I certainly don't think of it as healthful, it's just fun to drink something that's a little different, tastes good enough, and at least isn't the worst product on the shelves.

PHOTO TR:Jizzman's GREAT America Trip!
cal1br3tto replied to PKI Jizzman's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Hey Zach, I met you on Raging Bull near the end of ERT! Speaking of Bull, I agree with a lot of what you've said. I actually thought the ride was overrated at first (even after all my rides), but in retrospect I've grown very fond of it. It has a lot of elements I like in a coaster, and uses them well. Great speed, good airtime, thrilling turns and helices, and just an overall satisfying layout. The back is without a doubt the ultimate seat for airtime. ERT was amazing and really helped show me what the Bull is all about! Great TR of a great day! I especially enjoyed your shots of American Eagle. That coaster is ridiculously photogenic. -
I'm not really concerned about the Gerstlauer trains, although they certainly don't make for the best experiences on woodies. I do like the design and colors, and I think the shields provide a theming aspect as well as a practical one. If the NTG really does act a little like the wooden coaster it once was, that'll make it even better! I'm liking the comparisons to the Crystal Beach Cyclone.

Intamin 12-Inversion coaster
cal1br3tto replied to chickenbowl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^SFMM could definitely use a few more inversions. Interesting how people are all across the board regarding how much they like inversions. I'm definitely more of an "airtime person", but I love me a good cobra roll, vertical loop, or pretzel. -
^The jackhammering on Grizzly is so pronounced, you could almost call it airtime!

Corkscrews certainly aren't my favorite element, but that looks sexy regardless. I'd ride this just for the novelty value! -

^Thank goodness. I actually Googled the matter, because it would be just a little too embarrassing if I were literally the only person in the world who did it. Far from it.

Amusement Ride Breakdown!
cal1br3tto replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ Yo-Yos are janky enough when they're working properly! By the way, you're lucky nothing worse happened. An innocent little Lolli Swing came crashing to the ground in 2009, and improper weight balancing was a rumored cause (although I believe this was eventually disproven). Poor kids! -
Intamin Spiral Coaster!

I don't see anything about this that would stop me from riding, but it does look, well, interesting. -
^You're spelling is ironic. To save someone the trouble of pointing it out: yes, so is my grammar!

I'd have to agree that Hard Rock Park automatically wins. I think it's a shame that some of my favorite ride concepts have proven to be much-maligned due to design issues. The most prominent examples are X2 and GIBs. It seems mechanical problems made the difference between success and failure, and skewed popular opinion in a negative direction. It's too bad inverted Boomerangs weren't successful enough to replace standard Boomerangs as the compact thrill coasters of choice.

^^We might have to ride a lot of coasters together before we end up with an image of me that meets my approval. Nah, I'll try to be a good sport. Anyway, any unbecoming appearances are clearly the ride's fault. Usually.

Here are some coasters I found to be rough, unpopular and/or personally disappointing. Zeus & Hades--I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said. Hellcat/Avalanche--Still very fun, but pretty rough, especially in the wheel seats. Holiwoodies--They weren't running their best this year, and Voyage was very rough. At least it's getting new trains! Timber Wolf--Another obvious one. I found this fun, but too intense. X2--I don't think I've received a worse bashing this year, and I heard people complaining about the same problem I had.

While I don't know the entire story and I don't know what will happen in the future, I think the turnaround of Six Flags parks is pretty significant. I've heard some terrible stories about how these parks operated in the past, but in the last few years there clearly has been an increase in positive reports. There are still plenty of complaints, but there are also many improvements to celebrate. It's great to see a park like SFDK go from hated to loved.

(Please note that I have not ridden this coaster.) Although I do tend to get emotional about historic and classic coasters, there's no way I would avoid visiting BGW just because they took out Big Bad Wolf. However, I'll admit it's a bit disappointing because it sounded like something I would enjoy. Do I think people's sadness is weird because the ride wasn't highly ranked? Not at all. Many of the rides I enjoy rank outside of the top 50, all the way down to the bottom 5 in Mitch's poll. (Dragon!) I know of plenty of rides ranked in the hundreds that are well-liked for what they are. So I agree that its rankings are influenced by its age and style, the nostalgia factor, and simple difference of opinion.
