Although I started out as a bit ambivalent, the more I see of this coaster the more I LOVE the looks of it! I think I've officially stopped caring that it's a steelie. In fact, I kind of appreciate how this combines the beauty of a wood structure with the benefits of a steel coaster. I seriously need to raise the priority level of a potential trip to Texas next year.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi Photo Trip Report

Before viewing this, I hadn't really realized how attractive FR is. I love the understated color scheme that puts the focus on the cars, and the station house looks great as well. Thanks for the early up-close look! -

The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall

My top 5, more or less, are: 1. Coaster (Playland) 2. Giant Dipper (SCBB) 3. Cyclops (Mt. Olympus) 4. Coaster Thrill Ride (Puyallup Fair) 5. Cornball Express (Indiana Beach) What these have in common is great airtime. Coaster features intense airtime on nearly every drop. Giant Dipper provides a similar airtime experience, but it feels much less dangerous and more simply "fun". Cyclops has not only "THE drop", but some solid airtime on one or two preceding hills as well. Coaster Thrill ride has some average airtime throughout its course plus a "THE drop" that rivals any other. Finally, while I didn't fully "get" Cornball Express, it does have some satisfying airtime in a couple spots. -
Coasters at Night

^I think it's a plausible theory, but I would guess that only a small number of people are "sensitive" enough to notice a difference. Personally, I wouldn't count on it or get worked up about it. -

I only took advantage of TPR's Black Friday sale! (How could I resist?) I've never done any serious Black Friday shopping, for reasons both practical and philosophical. I have promoted Buy Nothing Day in the past, but I've realized that it's largely symbolic and somewhat contrived.

Thanksgiving is at my (not literally "my") house this year. It'll be crowded. -

I'm pretty sure this is the fastest-growing thread I've ever seen on here. -
Same; I've only seen coverage on the Internet... Of course, it will be in the papers by tomorrow, though.

Belmont Park in jeopardy?
cal1br3tto replied to Sidra's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will definitely continue to watch this situation, and I think I'll try to get out to this park within the next year. Giant Dipper is the last West Coast woodie I need! -

The more I see of this, the more I like it! Couldn't have said it better. -
I was scanning through a list of upcoming Butler Amusements carnivals as I am wont to do, and much to my surprise... They are providing the midway for my local fair next year!!! Great news from my favorite carnival company! Best of all, the reason the fair board chose Butler is that they were willing to offer unlimited ride wristbands all day, every day. That's my favorite setup! I don't plan to go next year, but this certainly bodes well for the future!

Fair and Carnival Locator
cal1br3tto replied to OISU8P's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There should be sites that list all upcoming fair dates for your state. Try checking out official sites of fairs that look promising, and look up carnival companies in your region to see if they list dates as well. By the way, Butler Amusements is currently my favorite midway provider for the western United States. -
How charming! I love that there are still parks like this. It's interesting how so many seem to go under the radar. Hopefully the well-kept ones, like this one, are at least popular with the locals.
