  1. Wow. Not to complain about numbers or specific placements. But I've used polls like these as a basis for what is "good" and what is not. I disagree with too many of the top. And not just like oh this 3rd place should've been 8. I mean like far. Montu was horrible. (I rode front and back) Kumba on the other hand surprisingly well and that i must agree on. the placement is probably where it should be. Apollo wasn't very good, neither was Bizarro (SROS). Nitro also. It has to be just me but those two B&M Hypers give me no forces at all. I'm really hoping now with this TPR trip that Expedition GeForce, Nemesis, and Goliath (WW) aren't let downs. I guess it is back to the old fashion way. Ride whatever looks good and not what people tell me is good.
  2. I've felt a similar problem as Robb. My solution was to not be his friend anymore. Jeez, I would get way too many of those apps telling me that someone wrote on his wall or sent him some sort of electronic garbage.. I'm fine with the less is better strategy to facebook, since there aren't really over 100 people I can say I honestly care about when they aren't so happy. Fortunately my TPR friends on the Europe trip seem to be far more interesting with status updates on what they do.
  3. I'm surprised by the amount of people getting PS3s and XBOX360s... so expensive. Well I got this year.. Top Gear: The Challenges DVDs 1 & 2 NHL 10 for XBOX360 Bolt for XBOX 360 Ultimate Matrix Collection Aeon Flux Snowboarding goggles New Jersey Devils hoodie New Jersey Devils Calendar $50 towards tickets to see a hockey game of my choice. (Devils Vs. Rangers at MSG)
  4. I'm very thankful for the coasterfanatics way of doing it. I tried doing it the old fashioned way, I got up to about #40 then realized I missed Raptor, and really didn't feel like finding and changing every coaster to a different number. For some reason I don't like the other scale of just labeling many coasters as the same number. I probably did the poll wrong. I just go by how I interpret it. I noticed some people not including rides that got an "x2 make-over" I count it, just because there is a section stating it that i haven't ridden it this year. I also counted Dominator and Voodoo because i have ridden those at Six Flags Ohio. I figure that if I'm not going to count it again if I ride them at the new parks, why count it separately for this poll? My top as far as I can remember #1 Best wooden (Boulder Dash) #2 Goliath La Ronde #3 Volcano #4 Storm Runner #5 SROS (SFNE) #6 Fahrenheit #7 Millennium Force #8 Spongebob's Rock Bottom Plunge #9 Afterburn #10 Mystery Mine #11 Alpengeist Bottom: worst Favorite Flitzer, Zamperla Volare, The only two that I absolutely hate.
  5. I have been to KD (In case you didn't know, Paramount sold it to Cedar Fair a few years ago, so it isn't PKD anymore...) -James Dillaman Yeah, I know. I just like to call it PKD, It is out of habit. I agree with the person above this post. Adding Kennywood and Waldameer, or even just looking for a 3rd option is a good idea. I also agree with an above statement, that asking which parks are better on a coaster forum is a bad idea and just leads to exactly what happened. Go with whatever YOU think looks good. As seen from this topic, you really can't go by what other people say is better.
  6. Ok. To get back on topic. MY OPINION on SROS is that it is not very good. And without telling you what a friend told me about the transformation; I feel that sound, especially the Bizzaro soundtrack makes a roller coaster less fun to ride again and can give a headache. Thus putting these two opinions together, I feel that Bizarro is not worthy of your ridership. Also, my previous experience with bigger lapbars is that the rides are less thrilling than rides with smaller lapbars regardless of this so-called "safety" reason. Also, I believe that the user above me is making invalid points. I believe that you cannot compare Dark Knight to Knight Flight. The two are way too different than to just say "oh they share the same inversions." I would also like to point out that the user above me yelled at me for comparing a rollercoaster i "hadn't ridden" while he is giving a review of a ride that has not even been built yet. I am also under the impression that user above me has not even been to BGE or PKD since he has continually said that those rides, "look good" My conclusion is that although Boulder Dash is great, Virginia is the better choice. Volcano: The Blast coaster is superb (my opinion).Apollo's Chariot and Griffon are among the best roller coasters in the world (fact). My previous experience involving the parks proved to me that you can spend more time at both PKD and BGE than LC and SFNE. Now, is that anything wrong about what I said?
  7. You heard wrong then because Bizarro at SFNE is nothing like what you have at Great Adventure, no offense but yours sucks. The audio was only loud on Media Day and a few days after and gradually it got turned down to where it is now. All the effects are always working and aren't unmaintained like at GADV. In my opinion all the effects made the ride better. Espescially the buildings, why? Because the speed you are going at there, close to the top speed, and weaving through buildings and then finally through one is a great experience. Do not listen to what Medusa1861 said about Bizarro at SFNE, they didn't ride it and are basing facts over what they experienced on Bizarro at GADV. ^ Thanks, I never knew I could hear an opinion wrong. And the bigger lapbars that make the ride less fun, that opinion is wrong too? (This opinion came from a source who has been on way more roller coasters than I have.) And by the way. Superman: Ride of Steel is overrated. It's a good ride, but I like Volcano more. I also hate sound, I feel it ruins the ride. But I guess you can't take that opinion from me, because apparently I'm wrong.
  8. BGE and PKD are easily better parks. But like stated above Boulder Dash is also my personal favorite roller coaster. And in all honesty, you can get SFNE and LC done in one day while The Virginia parks, you might be able to do in one day (if you're like me) But I'd recommend spending one day each. I haven't been on Bizarro, I've been on it as SROS. But if it is anything like Bizarro/Medusa at SFGadv, I believe the new effects and sound made it a worse ride. So i wouldn't get my hopes up for Bizarro at SFNE. I have heard that the SFNE version suffered the same problems, the sound being too loud, and just a less fun ride. It makes it not very re-ridable. (this of course is my own opinion so take it has just that, an opinion) It's really up to you, but the New England trip will be much cheaper and you'll get on two GREAT coasters. I can't say the same to everything else at those parks. So it really depends on the vacation you want to do. You'll have a better time in Virginia but if you're short on cash and just want to get on the best coasters, do the New England trip.
  9. The drifting coaster. Judging by the name and picture, sounds like an "e-motion" coaster. But possibly done better. Since "drifting" is pretty much driving while sideways.
  10. Name: Robert S Age: 21 What is your roller coaster count? 227 What is your home park? keansburg Amusement Park What is the nearest big city? New York/Newark What is your occupation? College Student About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? 20 About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? 16 When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? primarily parks What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? MN, 1,200 miles Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…)Nope Do you have any other major hobbies? Snowboarding (riding) Going to hockey games Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? Nope, Yup, YES! Offseason from coasters you mean? Once "offseason " starts, Hockey season starts! Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) No Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? Nope, do it all the time. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? Yes, Yes Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? Usually yeah. How do you get your coaster news? TPR/Screamscape/ friends How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? Just TPR and i barely post here. If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? Depends on how the poll is formed... but i guess SROS (SFNE), Expedition GeForce, Nemesis Wood: El Toro, Balder, Boulder Dash (Note: I am not a big fan of any of these, but Boulder Dash) Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? Cedar Point, Europa Park, Fuji Q Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? Yes, 3 times. Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) Not anymore, used to, Now I cut trips to parks for trips to different hockey arenas. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? Minimally. And best days to go? The best days are the same for EVERY park. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? Depends. I see two different communities, TPR and.. ACE. And generally accepting, but ACE feels more discouraging. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? No, It usually ends up with someone trying to describe Dueling Dragons to me just because I said I've never been to IOA.
  11. Great. The trip i want to go on most has the least amount of credits. Good thing I care less about my count and more about quality. Mainland Europe seemed to have the most "quality" rides. Katun, iSpeed, Blue Fire, Ring Racer(just cause it is the fastest, probably not very good) Expedition GeForce.
  12. In your scenario. Of course Intamin isn't liable. But Intamin has to PROVE that the new restraints did it OR Knotts has to prove that the restraints didn't cause any error. In the case of this accident. In the case of the actual accident. I don't think any modifications to the restraint system would make them not liable. As the problems all had nothing to do with the restraint system. As for your electronic idea. I'm actually interested in learning about that. Because I'm wondering if, by breaking the tape it says to the manufacture that you attempted to do something to the inside. But i'm not so sure they are off the hook. I think the consumer might have to prove that nothing he/she did caused the problem. which of course is more work to do than the piece of machinery is even worth. But I think we got the point across anyways. That isn't as simple as just "You did something to the ride and as a result this company has 100% no liability even if modification was perfect"
  13. Funny thing about that is...you can't put anything on a ride that the manufacturer doesn't apporve of. And if these new restraints were to be outsourced by a contractor, Intamin wouldn't make any money from that...would they? And as an added bonus, the minute a park uses ANY component that a manufacturer didn't give a personal "thumbs up" on, it washes their hands off any liability. Now folks, keep in mind I don't necessarily think this is the case. Just a possibility. More restrictive procedures have been implemented before and I would not rule this one out. I'm pretty sure you can modify your product like that and that it doesn't wash the manufacture's hands of any liability. Just taking a legal environments course, and having done modifications my car. It only removes them of any liability if what you have done to the product is what cause the incident. In the case of new restraints. Assuming it was an outside modification. Intamin might be able to partially get away with the liability of injury to the passengers. But they are still liable for the whole cable snap thing.
  14. I am ready to put the deposit down now! Mainland Europe for me! A nice graduation present I'm giving myself. That is unless I somehow manage to get a job straight out of college and won't let me take off a few days for the trip. I'll figure it out later if i have to stay a day later or come a day earlier, but i've always wanted to take a lap around the nordschlief at the Nurbugring. Unfortunately, the only race prepared car they will let me rent is a Suzuki Swift due to my age. If mainland Europe gets canceled, I'll just switch over to the UK trip.
  15. It isn't a very good roller coaster. But it is just rated the best, because it is the only roller coaster we can all agree is good. From the few people who posted, you can see the trend already. It is nearly no one's favorite ride, But it is generally in everyone's top 5. So in a way it is overrated. I enjoyed it, not my favorite, but in my top ten? yup.
  16. You still work at Clementon until the season is over? I'm thinking about stopping by while I'm at college. (Rowan University).
  17. I was just at the park on Sunday. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the news as well as I thought I did. So I didn't take a picture because I didn't think it was unusual. If anyone is curious, it doesn't appear (after the wreckage was all cleared up) that any part of the actual ride got damaged. From what I saw of the ride, it looked like there just wasn't an exit platform built. So the cost to fix is probably very minimal.
  18. Nice, TPR seems to be making these trips even better each year. With more than just "going to random park ad getting ert" Definitely hope I can go on one of these trips next year, as long as I don't get a job immediately after I graduate college, I'm good.
  19. New Zealand? They're coming up with all the coolest ideas, the only other one i can think of is Zorb, but still. I hope this catches on. I would love to do this race. It would fit perfectly at a few small parks, or at a few ski resorts that open the mountain to summer adventures.
  20. I was there today, and while on Rolling Thunder noticed they were actually working in the engine room, so it might be reopening soon like the guy above me says.
  21. Kiddie Coaster at Lake Compounce, I asked every kid that walked by if i could ride with him/her. But the only one I regret is going to Land of Make Believe, paying $20 getting one ride on Thriller and leaving. Worst $20 I ever spent.
  22. $7 for one round on the coaster? That's horrible. You could get on Great White for less than that (I think). I might actually pass on this the next time I go to PKD. Knowing me, I probably will fork up the $7 just because it looks like a layout I haven't been on.
  23. #4 Because the girl in the pink looks like she's trying not to notice. #6 -Because the guy in the black is sooo checking her out.
